Madman handled the hospital admission procedures and, with Will's help, got his friend settled in. He had wanted to try and talk some sense into his friend, but after a shot of Demerol, the man fell into a quiet sleep.
The skinny girl wiped her tears and knelt before Madman in the hospital room. "Uncle Ye, thank you."
"Get up, get up. Your dad's my friend. There's no need to thank me."
Madman helped the girl to her feet and looked at his terribly frail friend on the bed. A wave of bitterness washed over him. He remembered how strong the man used to be—he could flatten an enemy's skull with a single punch, ate a huge basin of rice at every meal, and had incredible strength. Who would have thought he'd end up like this?
'I should have come sooner,' he thought. 'Maybe my brother wouldn't have gotten this sick. Maybe he could have survived.'
