Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Unwarranted Trouble

At first, he refused to accept it. He went to her dorm building and waited, hoping to win her back, but all he got were pointing fingers and whispers from onlookers. He later found out that she was being kept by that producer. She had long since moved out of the dorm and into a lavish villa, and she had also successfully landed the leading role in that film.

Fighting for their future together had been his sole purpose in life. Now that he had lost her, he felt as if his entire world had come crashing down. He even began to feel that life was meaningless. He spent his nights drinking himself into a stupor at bars and his days wallowing in apathy, eventually losing his nomination to study abroad.

That night, he staggered out of a bar. He had only taken a few steps when a figure came stumbling toward him. It was a middle-aged man covered in blood. He grabbed onto him and pleaded weakly,

"Young man, help me! There are people after me, trying to kill me!"

Though he was drunk, he knew this was not something he should get involved in. He was about to push the middle-aged man away when several men in black rushed out from the street corner. Without a word, they lunged at him, forcing him to fight back in self-defense.

He was very skilled at fighting. Growing up in a single-parent family, he was often teased and bullied by other children, so his mom had sent him to learn Taekwondo for self-defense. Unexpectedly, he had trained all the way to the level of a black belt.

Those men were no match for him. He had them on the ground in just a few moves. One of them, in a desperate rage, pulled out a gun and was about to fire, but he stepped forward and kicked it out of his hand. The man shot him a venomous look and spat out a threat,

"You little punk! You ruined Mr. Lowe's business today. He won't let you get away with this!"

After saying his piece, the man and his underlings fled in a panic.

He paid the man's threat no mind. Turning around, he saw that the middle-aged man had collapsed on the ground. A doctor's first instinct is to save lives, so he decided to take the man back to his apartment. Being a doctor himself, he skillfully bandaged the man's wounds.

After recovering some of his strength, the middle-aged man hurriedly asked,

"Young man, who else is in your family?"

He didn't quite understand the man's question at the time, but he answered honestly,

"Just my mom, but she's far away in our hometown of Wincastle, up north."

The city where he attended university was in the south, near the border. His mother was all alone in their hometown of Wincastle; his father had passed away when he was very young.

Hearing about his family situation, the middle-aged man seemed to let out a long sigh of relief. He then struggled to his feet.

"Young man, you need to pack your things and escape with me, now! Those men from earlier work for the local kingpin, Wendy Lowe. You saved me and ruined their plans. They definitely won't let you off the hook!"

The moment Julian Donovan heard the name Wendy Lowe, he flew into a rage and roared,

"Wendy Lowe? If I'd known they worked for him, I would've beaten them half to death!"

Because the man rumored to be keeping Juliet Jennings was none other than Wendy Lowe.

The middle-aged man didn't press him for details on why he hated Wendy Lowe so much. Instead, he simply urged him to leave,

"If we don't go now, it'll be too late! Come with me to Pier Eight. I have some of my men waiting for me there!"
