Lane Yancey looked at Vera Xavier and asked, "You're Vera Xavier?"
Vera Xavier nodded. "Did you call for me because of Susan Caldwell, Chancellor? If so, Colonel Caldwell should have already told you the whole story. I have no objection to however you decide to handle it."
'When she heard the Chancellor was looking for her, she knew it had to be about this. She was perfectly calm about it. After all, she was the victim from start to finish. No matter what punishment was handed down, it wouldn't be for her.'
'As for how Susan would be punished, she was calm about that, too. Any punishment would be a major blow to Susan.'
When Lane Yancey's secretary had explained the situation to him earlier, he had gotten the impression that Vera Xavier wasn't the easygoing type. But her current attitude was surprisingly agreeable.
