Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: What's Wrong With the Boss?

Aurora Sterling knew what Sharon Dalton was up to. 'If I don't play along, where's the fun in that?'

So, Aurora Sterling looked at Mrs. Sterling and said, "Grandma, I'll go show Miss Miller and her friends around."

Mrs. Sterling looked at Aurora, her expression troubled. Although she was happy to see Aurora trying to fit in with the circle of socialites, she still couldn't quite bring herself to trust her. After all, Aurora had a long and sordid history. Besides, she had never gotten along with those girls. They seemed fine now, but they could start fighting at any moment. With so many guests at the luncheon today, a scene would surely become the talk of the town.

Seeing Mrs. Sterling's hesitation, Aurora smiled sweetly and said, "Grandma, how about we have the butler come with me? I'm worried I won't be able to host them properly by myself and might neglect our guests."

At Aurora's words, Mrs. Sterling's eyes lit up, surprised at how perceptive the girl had suddenly become. She smiled and nodded. "That's a good idea. The butler can go with you. That way, if you girls need anything, he can attend to it immediately."

"Of course!" Aurora smiled sweetly. Her enthusiastic face glowed with the vibrant beauty unique to her age, and her smile was so infectious it brightened the mood of everyone who saw it.

However, at that very moment, a certain man on the second floor was feeling anything but cheerful.

Damien Valerius stared down at Aurora Sterling, his expression grim. His voice was just as dark. "Why is that woman smiling for no reason? What's so funny?" He then turned to Sean Carter. "Is it funny?"

Sean Carter was genuinely frightened by Damien's demeanor. He immediately stood up straight and shook his head vigorously. "Not funny. Not funny at all!"

Sean Carter swallowed hard, completely unable to figure out what had suddenly gotten into his boss. 'Is he still furious that Miss Sterling slept with him, thinking he was a gigolo? Is that why he's annoyed when she talks and even more annoyed when she smiles?'

Having received Mrs. Sterling's approval, Aurora enthusiastically led Miss Miller and her friends out of the banquet hall, accompanied by the butler and Sharon Dalton.

She had only taken a few steps when an uncomfortable feeling washed over her. It felt as though a pair of eyes was fixed on her with cold intent. This was the second time. Trusting her instinct, Aurora looked up toward the second floor of the banquet hall, but a careful scan of the area revealed no strange figures.

'Am I just being overly sensitive because of this new environment?'

Seeing nothing out of the ordinary, Aurora continued on her way out of the banquet hall.

Sharon Dalton's eyes were fixed on Aurora, a cold smirk playing on her lips.

'She refused to believe it. There was no way Aurora, who had always despised Miss Miller and her friends, would suddenly drop her grudge and get along with them peacefully. She was bound to make a fool of herself any minute now!'

Mrs. Sterling watched Aurora's departing figure with a satisfied expression. 'Today's Aurora really is different from before.'

Nanny Vaughn shot a sidelong glance at Aurora, then whispered to Mrs. Sterling, "Madam, are you really comfortable letting Miss Sterling out of your sight? She's caused her fair share of trouble in the past, and she's never gotten along with Miss Miller and her friends. If they get into a fight, what an embarrassment that would be!"

Hearing Nanny Vaughn's words, Mrs. Sterling's expression darkened. She glanced at the surrounding guests before shooting Nanny Vaughn a warning look. "Nanny Vaughn, watch what you say."
