After getting off work that evening, Summer Lancaster sat on the sofa watching a K-drama and eating snacks. This was the scene that greeted Kenneth Yates when he came home. He changed his shoes at the entryway, then sat on the sofa to watch with her. When a touching scene came on, Summer burst into tears.
"What are you crying about?" Kenneth asked, puzzled. She had just started crying out of nowhere while watching.
"It's so touching! The male lead gave up his first love for the female lead, and they lived happily ever after," Summer said, wiping her tears with a tissue.
"What's so touching about that? You get emotional so easily. I could also..." 'Give up my first love?' He didn't dare say it. He couldn't do it.
"Also what?"
"Nothing." Kenneth got up from the sofa, suddenly feeling suffocated. He went out to the balcony and lit a cigarette. A cigarette was an anesthetic, a way to forget his troubles. He only ever lit one at times like these, to numb himself.
