Highschool DxD: The Cursed King of Kuoh

S1 Ch 11: Rescuing a Pervert

The city pulsed beneath him, a sprawling tapestry of neon and shadow. From his perch on the elevated pedestrian rail, Sukuna watched the oblivious ants scurrying below. The air, thick with the scent of fried oil and exhaust fumes, did little to mask the metallic tang of the approaching storm. Students spilled from classrooms, their laughter echoing off the glass storefronts. Couples walked hand-in-hand, their hushed conversations lost in the wave of noise. Families drifted from shop to shop, their excited chatter blending in with the others. It was a literal symphony of the mundane, a stark contrast to the predatory gaze of the being watching all of them.

He hunched over the railing as though he were a hawk surveying its next meal. One knee pressed against the cool metal railing, his weight perfectly balanced. The bomber jacket he wore, an accessory from his house's infinite wardrobe, whispered against his skin as a stray breeze ruffled its fabric. From his vantage point, Sukuna was an unseen observer, simply another teenage boy out for a stroll at the outlet mall.

His attention immediately zeroed in on the series supposed main character Issei Hyoudou as he made his way onto the scene. The boy ambled through the crowd, his posture stiff with an almost palpable nervousness. The pervert's gaze fitted from skirt to skirt clearly trying to spot any hint of the panties the passing women were wearing.

"Man this kid really is a degenerate," Sukuna muttered, his voice a low rumble as he watched Issei snap a quick photo up a woman's dress.

His gaze flicked sideways as another figure entered his line of sight. A young woman, no, a devil's familiar taking a human form made her way in front of the nervous young man. Her cosplay was an exaggerated parody of a bat-winged succubus, complete with a ridiculously short skirt like most dxd girls. The disguised familiar immediately thrusted a colorful brown flyer into Issei's hands, saying a few words, and then walked away swallowed up by the wave of the bustling crowd.

Sukuna's eyes narrowed, twin slits of crimson burning with intensity. He remained motionless, as he watched Issei, flustered and bewildered, crumple the flyer into his jacket pocket and resumed waiting for his ill-fated date. Soon the Fallen Raynare finally arrived, she was still disguised as a high school girl and was dressed in a short black mini skirt and a low cut purple blouse that highlighted her supple breasts.

Yuuma Amano, the alias she was going by, chuckled at the boy's nervousness. Her head tilted ever so slightly just enough, a calculated gesture of innocent charm, her steps unhurried and graceful mirrored his own. Her hand brushed against the horny teenager's arm, a whisper of a promise of pleasures that would never really come.

Sukuna exhaled slowly, the air a soft snort from his nose. To his heightened senses, her presence was nothing but a jagged knife aimed at the boy's jugular. The killing intent the fallen was releasing was almost palpable. It didn't rise or fall, it simply existed, a constant unwavering current aimed squarely at the oblivious human beside her. The malicious aura filled the air with copper and ozone, like the stench of freshly drawn blood. How the boy couldn't feel the girl's clear murderous intentions was beyond his understanding.

As the pair began their little date Sukuna raised his hand slowly and subtly releasing his Cursed Energy. Soon a tendril of energy thin and almost imperceptible, snaked from his core. It moved through the air, an invisible serpent, unfelt by the bustling crowd below. The paper in Issei's pocket rustled faintly, a whisper of sound, then lifted, as if caught by a sudden, inexplicable gust of wind.

The flyer danced upward, twisting lazily, catching the sunlight as it slowly ascended, tumbling end over end until it settled into Sukuna's hand. He caught the flyer between two of his fingers, his gaze still half-fixed on the unsuspecting couple below. Slowly he looked down and began to examine the piece of paper with his mystic eyes.

At first the paper seemed like an ordinary flyer. Bright colors, cheerful messages, ridiculous fonts, an advertisement for a client summoning and a fun experience. The perfect bait for a desperate and unsuspecting teen boy. A lure he would fall for without a second thought.

Sukuna's eyes sharpened, the world around him blurring as his mystic perception peeled back the layers of the paper's magic. The cheerful colors vanished, revealing intricate lines of power etched beneath the surface. The symbols were intertwined in delicate patterns, forming a summoning seal so meticulous it would have fooled all but the most perceptive of magic users.

A devil's calling card.

"A recruitment trap huh," he muttered to himself, a note of familiarity in his voice. "How original."

He could feel the connection now, a faint tether stretching outward, linking the seal to a distant source, Rias Gremory. Sukuna couldn't help but click his tongue at the sheer laziness of the strategy. If the seal activated, it would alert her instantly. She'd be summoned there in a matter of seconds, which meant her plan was probably to let the fallen kill the pervert and then swoop in and reincarnate him into her Peerage without having to broker a deal or ask permission, all while appearing like a savor in the naive boy's eyes.

Ruthless. Utterly and completely ruthless, and he loved it. But unfortunately he had no intention of letting the little devils interfere with his plans.

Two fingers slid along the edge of the paper, cursed energy condensing with the surgical precision of a scalpel. There was no flash, no sound, just a noiseless surgical cut. He activated his innate technique Cleave. The summoning seal unraveled at a level deeper than physical destruction. The very concept of the seal, its structure, and its connection were severed in a single stroke. The flyer, one second whole in his hand, was soon cut into a thousand pieces, dissolving into harmless motes of dust that scattered on the wind. No alarms rang, no presence stirred. Sukuna released the remaining remnants between his fingers and watched them vanish along with the rest.

"That should keep you out of my hair," he said, a dry chuckle rumbling in his chest.

Below, Issei's boisterous laughter echoed, entirely unaware that his destiny had just been quietly and utterly changed. Sukuna pushed off the railing, dropping down into the swirling current of the crowd below. The noise and waves swallowed him whole. Footsteps slapped against pavement, voices a chorus of dozens of languages and tones, overlapped and intertwined. Somewhere nearby, a street performer's botched drum solo hurt his ears, while the smell of grilled meat, thick and saturated with grease, made his stomach clench, not from hunger, but with clear irritation at the obnoxious smell, making him desire Ura's cooking.

He followed the pair at a relaxed distance, hands shoved into his pockets, his posture loose and unconcerned. Anyone watching would have seen nothing more than another tall student, aimlessly wandering through the shopping district. His senses, on the other hand, were fully engaged.

Yuuma's killing intent never wavered. It flowed steadily, a river running its way toward a single, inevitable destination. She laughed. She smiled. She asked Issei questions about school, about hobbies, about his dreams. All while envisioning his death. Personally Sukuna saw it as a waste.

"She's not even going to give the boy a fighting chance." He thought, a flicker of disdain crossing his face as he would've desired to test his abilities against a fully awakened Red Dragon Emperor. "She's like a child pulling the wings off a dragonfly."

They soon passed by the edge of the park where the trees and their leaves rustled softly in the breeze, casting long, distorted shadows as the sun dipped lower, painting the sky in the colors of orange and purple. The air here carried a scent that Sukuna actually enjoyed. Clean and crisp, carrying the earthy scent of sap and damp soil, reminding him of home.

Time was drawing closer, and Sukuna began considering his options. Upper Management hadn't asked for any heroics. They hadn't even asked for a slaughter. They wanted one specific result: Issei Hyoudou alive. Which meant Sukuna didn't need to kill the Fallen bitch. He just needed her gone that day. A warning. A scare. Enough pain to convince her to retreat and regroup. Simple. He just needed to wait for an opening, some natural separation between the two. And then-

Suddenly one of the many storefronts caught his eye. The manga shop, nestled snugly between a bakery and a music store, its window a chaotic collage of posters, stacked volumes, and fading promotional banners. He stopped dead in his tracks, the crowd flowing around him, brushing past, bumping shoulders, and muttering apologies he didn't hear.

Soon past memories flooded his mind. Memories of his time back in his original earth. Memories of his fingers tracing the spines of countless works. Of counting the few coins he'd saved up for the latest volume of a manga series. Of arguing with his friends of which series was the best and which character would defeat who if they had a crossover battle. Then the memories of the bus. The memory of the impact, and the abyss.

"Tch," he clicked his tongue.

He glanced back toward the park. Issei and Yuuma were walking, still chatting away, still moving deeper into the trees.

"I've got time," he decided after a moment's hesitation. "It's not like they're going to kill him in the next five minutes."

And just like that the King of Curses made his way toward the manga shop, and abandoned his pervert protection security detail.

Inside the shop was a haven of quiet warmth and cultured paradise. Shelves stretched from floor to ceiling, groaning under the weight of countless manga and light novels. Posters adored the walls with cute anime girls. A small bell chimed as he entered a welcoming sound that alerted the store's owners. Sukuna's eyes, usually sharp and mocking, softened considerably, a glint of excitement replacing his usual stark indifference.

"...You've got to be kidding me." He said as his mystic eyes analyzed the store's inventory.

New releases, titles he recognized immediately, different series he had followed religiously, laid before his eyes ripe for the taking. He moved fast, an almost predatory grace to his movements that he'd only ever used in combat, and now was using it to secure the latest editions of his favorite series. His hands reached out, grabbing volumes, and flipping pages with lightning speed. He scanned covers with an unsettling focus, stacking as many books as he could carry beneath his arm. His irritation melted away giving way to genuine excitement that he hadn't felt since he was still human.

"Tell me you have volume fourteen," he asked the store clerk as he continued to increase his stack of books which quickly turned into two. Then three. As he flipped through the latest volume of Death Note, he failed to notice the setting sun over the horizon. Until something or rather someone drew him out of his thoughts.

"Master, have you stopped the Fallen yet?" Ura asked telepathically, her familiar voice brushing against his thoughts.

Sukuna froze, the books in his arms suddenly weighing a ton.

"...Um Ura…What time is it?" He asked almost sheepishly

"According to my data it's currently 5:55. Why?"

"Shit! Shit shit!" He yelled aloud, startling other customers.

He quickly paid for his books, giving the clerk way more money than necessary.

"Keep the change," he said as he rushed out the door books tucked under one arm.

He began looking around frantically trying to sense the pair's location using his Cursed Energy. Immediately he felt a magical barrier activate pressing against his sensory energy.

"Well isn't that fucking perfect!" He shouted internally.

He complained realizing the main event was about to unfold. Internally he cursed his own carelessness as he dropped his purchased manga into his shadow, which swallowed them whole, storing them for later. He immediately activated his Reinforcement making the ground underneath his feet groan. After taking one deep breath he was gone, moving passed the strangling humans faster than the eye could see. The wind from his movements made the woman's skirts flutter as he passed, exposing their panties to the world. He moved with as much speed as he could muster making a beeline towards the source of the magic barrier.

o-O-o

Back inside the park near a giant water fountain, Yuuma slowly moved closer to Issei until her lips were inches from his ear. She repeated the question she'd asked seconds earlier.

"I want you to die for me," she repeated her voice dropping lower.

Yuuma then stood back and revealed her true appearance and form. His purple blouse and skirt exploded as he body rapidly aged into that of a woman in her mid to late twenties. Her breasts grew larger, bouncing and jiggling as her nipples were covered with a thin black latex like strap. While her thick hips were covered with a thin black thong leaving almost nothing to the imagination. Though her most distinguishing feature was the pair of night-black feather wings that sprang from her back.

"Well I have to admit while I did have some fun today," She started her deeper voice carrying through the air. "Considering how naive and childish you are things could've been a whole lot worse. Thanks a lot for the gift too."

Issei dropped to the ground landing flat on his but shocked by his supposed new girlfriend's appearance as she examined the purple bracelet Issei had given her.

"It was very sweet of you, but even so," she continued until she held out her hand and manifested a crimson light lance in her hand.

"Yuuma wait please!" He begged while backpeddling a little, his sneakers slipping against the stone pavement.

"It's time to die," she then thrusted her light lance out aiming for the center of Issei's undefended chest.

Just as the spear was about to make contact Issei felt himself be jerked violently sideways, the world blurring into streaks of green and black as if something grabbed him by the collar and yanked him off the ground. The spear tore through the space where his body had been a heartbeat earlier, slamming harmlessly into the ground with a boom that sounded like thunder, completely shattering the stone path.

Issei slowly opened his eyes and found himself suspended in mid-air, his legs dangling off the ground while a hand held him by the scruff of his collar. Slowly looking toward the owner of the arm, the pervert was shocked to find Sukuna standing there holding him like a bag of groceries. His expression was flat, but Issei could tell he was quite annoyed.

Sukuna briefly locked eyes with the boy before turning his gaze toward the fallen angel standing amid the fading glow of her failed attack, a look of surprise on her face as she turned her head towards him.

"You've got to be joking," Sukuna muttered, though mostly to himself his irritation was palpable.

He released Issei's shirt letting him drop onto the ground with a dull thud. The boy after gathering his wits looked up at the new transfer student from his school.

"Sukuna?...What's going on?!....Why are you here?!" He choked out, wondering whether he should stand up or make himself as small as possible.

Sukuna didn't even spare him a glance.

"Shut up," he commanded.

Issei sensing his annoyance and anger immediately closed his mouth.

Across the park, Yuuma or more accurately Raynare stared at the newcomer, her blacked wings unfurling behind her with annoyance at the intrusion. Her eyes flickered from Sukuna to the perverted sack of shit that sat curled up behind him.

"...Who are you?" She demanded, her voice sharp and cold.

Sukuna exhaled slowly, like a man already tired of the conversation that had just begun.

"Me? I'm just passing through." He replied.

Raynare narrowed her eyes, the glow around her hands intensifying slightly.

"This doesn't concern you," she said, her voice laced with warning. "Leave. Now."

Sukuna blinked at her order for a second. Then to her surprise he laughed- a short brittle chuckle devoid of any warmth.

"Yeah I'm gonna have to say no," he replied, adjusting the collar of his bomber jacket. "You see I need him alive at least for tonight, so you skewer him like a kebab that's not going to work for me." He gestured vaguely toward Issei over his shoulder with his thumb. "Though feel free to kill him later on, I couldn't care less. A month from now, a week, hell even tomorrow. You could mount his head in the middle of town square for all I care, but tonight I'm gonna need you to back off."

Raynare stared at him genuinely bewildered by his attitude and tone. He was casual as if he were talking about the weather, not murdering a high school boy.

"Uh what?" Was all she managed to say. "Care to run that by me again?"

Sukuna tilted his head slightly, studying her expression as if she were a puzzle that didn't really deserve his full attention.

"I'm asking you to leave," he repeated slower this time, emphasizing each word as if speaking to a dimwitted child. "Walk away. Pretend this date never happened and you can have your prey later. I'm sure there are other Sacred Gear users you could kill in the meantime."

Raynare's eyes widened slightly at him revealing that he knew the reason for her mission but remained completely still. Silence stretched between the two of them, the tension thick and blatant.

Then the Fallen angel laughed. It was sharp and mocking, echoing faintly off the surrounding trees, a sound of pure and utter disdain.

"Are you serious?" She scoffed, pushing off the ground her wings beating once to lift her slightly above the pavement as she landed near the pair. "You interrupted my hunt, snatched my prey, and think you can negotiate with me human?"

Her gaze hardened as she narrowed her eyes. Her stare was both lethal and focused.

"I'll say it again, leave. Now." She repeated coldly. "Leave and I'll let you live."

The park seemed to hold its breath. Issei, watching from the ground, felt a fresh wave of terror, convinced he was about to be killed along with his strange savor. Sukuna's mocking smile faded, replaced with an expression of utter stillness that was far more frightening than any angry outburst.

"...Did you…Just say," he asked softly, the temperature of the air dropping by several degrees. "...That you'd…Let me live?"

Raynare was about to open her mouth to confirm her threat when suddenly all of her warrior instincts screamed danger making her beat her wings and jump to the left. As she did the world split, a line carved through the air, invisible until it wasn't. Where she was standing mere seconds prior along with a row of trees in the forest exploded a deep vertical ravine opening up on the stone and soil.

Raynare gasped as she stared at the slash that had missed her by mere inches, obliterating everything behind her in a cascade of splintered wood, dirt, and concrete. She turned back to face Sukuna whose blue eyes had become crimson and slit. Sukuna casually unbuttoned his jacket, dropping it into his shadow as his Cursed Energy began rolling off of him in heavy, visible waves, distorting the air around his body.

He looked at her, his eyes narrowed and filled with offence.

"You think you're more powerful than me, you filthy crow?" He asked as he rolled his shoulders and cracked his neck. "Fuck the pervert, I'm going to really enjoy this."

Raynare reacted instantly. She vanished in a blinding flash of red light, reappearing in the sky above Sukuna with a fresh light spear already formed in her hand. She hurled it downward, the weapon screaming as it cut through the air, aimed directly at his head.

Sukuna took a single causal step to the left, the spear missing him by mere centimeters, burying itself in the ground and detonating on impact, leaving behind a smoking crater.

"Too slow," he mocked as he dusted off his right shoulder.

The Fallen snarled, the sound feral, and launched herself forward, her wings beating hard against the magical air. Spears of light rained down around Sukuna, tearing up the park, and scorching the earth and stone, as he dodged effortlessly.

Sukuna moved through the chaos with terrifying precision. He began flicking his wrists and unleashed multiple Dismantle slashes imbued with Cursed Energy, cutting through the light magic like a hot knife through butter. Soon trees fell, park benches shattered, and the barrier Raynare enacted began to strain under the relentless assault.

Sukuna began to chuckle, as he moved through the attacks casually.

"Well you're doing better than I expected, crow." He mocked.

"Stop calling me that you hairless chimp!" She responded.

Raynare gritted her teeth and pressed harder, the light blazing brighter as she forced more power into her attacks. She attempted to close the distance, her spear thrust for Sukuna's chest, aimed for a kill shot. As she was about to land her attack he turned his body ever so slightly, letting the spear pass by his body.

"Ah and so close to," he mocked before flicking his right hand and unleashing a Dismantle slash that destroyed her thin black strap top.

She was blasted away now completely naked from the waist up, but her eyes remained focused on the monster before her. She rushed forward again aiming the spear for neck, as he was about to unleash a Cleave slash to end it, he suddenly became distracted. Her large naked breasts bounced mesmerizingly before his eyes as her wings flapped and closed the distance. His eyes clued to her pink erect nipples.

He was only able to tear his gaze away from the wonderful mounds of flesh enough to see the spear aimed at his jugular. He attempted to turn again but he didn't have enough time to avoid it completely. He leaned back a fraction too late, the spear punctured his left shoulder.

For a heartbeat everything froze. Raynare and Sukuna stared down at the red energy spear sticking out of his body. Blood soon flowed down onto the javelin. Raynare immediately pulled her spear out, making blood spray from his body and soaking the ground. Raynare stared condescendingly at the arrogant being who examined his shoulder for a moment.

"That…That actually hurt," he said slowly as he looked up from his shoulder and locked eyes with the Fallen. "...It's…Awesome! Do it again!"

A bloody smile that stretched ear to ear, completely distorted, grew across his face. His expression was filled with a mixture of twisted emotions such as; excitement, pleasure, but most of all anticipation. Raynare recoiled in horror at the being's pure psychotic delight.

"Sorry, sorry, It looks like I took you too lightly," he said as his wound visibly healed, leaving behind just a blank hole in his black V neck shirt. "I won't hold back anymore."

Soon the air around him completely changed, his second smaller pair of eyes opened, his black tribal tattoos appeared, and his black claws grew out of his fingers.

"What?! What are you?!" She shrieked as she stumbled backward, her voice cracking with fear at the pure malicious aura of the human-no the monster standing before her.

"No more games," he decided, his voice dropping to a low and dangerous growl.

The air pressure dropped instantly. His crushed energy flared, heavier and denser than before. Pressing down on the entire area like a physical, suffocating weight. The stone beneath his feet cracked outward with a spiderweb like pattern, the grass withering slightly at the edges of his aura.

Raynare tried to flee, quickly realizing the monster was beyond her. She didn't make it three steps.

Sukuna appeared before her in a blur of movement. A heavy roundhouse kick to the jaw sent her flying through the stone water fountain and into a large tree, snapping it in half with the impact.

Unfurling her wings she tried to take to the air attempting to get outside the barrier so she could teleport, but Sukuna wasn't interested in letting her go anywhere. A slash, clean and precise, took her right wing making her plummet back down to the ground. Black feathers and light scattered as Raynare screamed, a sound of pure agony.

The impact from her fall created a small crater in the earth beneath her. She tried to rise, pushing herself up with her arms. Another slash darted out, silent and invisible, severing her arms beneath her shoulders. She collapsed onto her face, tears of pain and fear rolled down her cheeks as she looked at her bloody stumps where her arms used to be. Soon Sukuna appeared in front of her, ending her wailing with a soccer kick to her mouth.

"Shut up," he ordered as she flew away crashing through three trees before lying flat on her back.

Slowly he made his way over his hands in his pockets. Soon he found her in a puddle of her own blood looking up at the sky with clear desperation. He stopped just a few arm lengths from her body, looking down at her with clear mockery.

"Done already?" He asked his smile, returning to its usual arrogant and conceited expression. "Shame I was just starting to have some fun. Oh well."

"W-What are you?" She half choked and half sobbed. "Who are you? Why are you doing this?" She demanded weakly, tears and grime dripping from her face.

Sukuna loomed over her, his shadow stretching unnaturally long and menacing in the fading light of twilight, completely engulfing her broken form.

"I don't answer questions from puppy chow," he brought his palms together, fingers interlocking with practiced precision. "Sick her boys," he said calmly.

Two massive, obsidian shapes erupted from his shadow, his Divine Dogs. Eyes glowing with malevolent intent, jaws snapping shut one on the right of her waist, and the other her left collarbone. They dragged her screaming, struggling form into the churning darkness, her howls of pain being muffled instantly by the shadow.

"Eisheth!" She shouted before being completely engulfed.

Silence followed. The barrier immediately collapsed, the battle was over.

Sukuna turned away from the sight, walking back toward Issei, his hands returning to his pockets. As he stepped over the scorched earth and broken trees like they were nothing but trash, his appearance returned to normal, his second eyes closed, his tattoos vanished, and his claws retracted. He walked toward the boy who was standing and shaking like a leaf, stopping beside the boy for a moment, facing the opposite direction.

"Get lost," he ordered, his voice flat.

Issei didn't hesitate. He scrambled away, a pathetic sob escaping his throat as he ran, disappearing into the night. Sukuna sighed again, deep and tired, the brief thrill of the fight fading back into annoyance. Then he turned his head slowly to the treeline, his blue eyes becoming crimson again as he focused on a spot where the shadows were the deepest.

"I know you're there," he said flatly. "Come out. Now."

From the shadows between the trees, a voluptuous figure stepped forward. She was stunning, even in the dim light. Her crimson hair, a vibrant contrast to the dark shadows, flowed down her back and across her shoulders. She was dressed in the standard Kuoh Academy uniform, with the white button up shirt groaning under the pressure of her physic's defying I cup breasts, that swayed and bounced as she made her way out of the treeline.

Footsteps crunched softly against grass and dirt as Rias Gremory made her way before the King of Curses.

"Good evening Sukuna Doumon," she said with a practiced smile trying to keep her tone casual. "I believe it's time we had a talk."

Sukuna smiled at her words.

"I agree, Lady Gremory," he responded, tilting his head as he sized up the devil heiress.

A silence of lingering anticipation growing between the pair.
