Chapter 16 - unsposte to happen

Several hours later,

He turned on the radio on his way to the desert, into the middle of nowhere.

He got out, carrying a shovel and a large bag, looking at his phone for coordinates. He walked a few meters into the desert and started digging, leaving his phone aside. As he dug, he heard the sound of metal. He stopped and brushed the dirt away, revealing a safe. It was full of gold, the fruit of his life's labor.

He put everything in the bag.

He returned to the car. It was almost sunset, and the sun was at its golden hour.

On his way back, he turned on the radio and heard that a state of emergency had been declared in the country due to an outbreak of a disease that was driving people to madness and violence.

It was advised to stay away from cities as much as possible.

Sika had expected something terrible to happen, but he hadn't imagined it would happen so soon.

While he was wondering where to go,

he was on a hill and saw in the distance a very long police cordon around a farm in the middle of the desert. He saw many police cars nearby.

He wasn't even considering going, given what He was carrying money and belongings in his bag.

But he was surprised to find a police car behind him, speeding towards him from behind. He knew there was no escape; it was closing in quickly.

So, his hand quickly reached for a cloth and a water bottle beside him, and he washed his face and the mirror while looking in the rearview mirror at the police car.

"Pull over." Someone signaled him to stop.

Sika tried to remain completely calm as he pulled over and the policeman got out and approached him.

"What are you doing here right now?"

He asked the policeman while looking away at the closed-off farmhouse.

Sika looked at him calmly and replied,

"The world's turned upside down. I tried to stay away for a couple of days until things calmed down."

The policeman looked at his hand and face and asked,

"Do you know this farmhouse?"

Sika looked back at the distant farmhouse.

"This is my first time here."

He ordered him to get out so the place could be searched.

At this point, Sika began to feel nervous and reluctantly got out. There was some dust and blood on his clothes, and the policeman became very agitated as soon as he got out.

The other policeman had already gotten out and started looking at the car, while the third waited for Sika to come out.

The second policeman, looking at Sika's pants, had also found the bag, which was slightly open at the top. But the contents inside were gold and money. It was clear.

What's all this blood?

Sika looked at him.

One of the crazy people was trying to speak, but he didn't finish his sentence before they saw a warplane overhead. It landed on part of the farm.

Everyone fell to the ground as the sound of the plane drew closer. It was a terrifying sight that made the policeman forget what was happening.

There was a call to the policeman, ordering him to go to the farm immediately and leave everything else for later, no matter what. He had to answer and comply immediately.

"Yes, sir. We're going there right now."

"Come with us, you son of a bitch," he said, looking at the nervous Sika. He handcuffed Sika and put him in the back seat of the police car. The other policeman took Sika's car, and they headed for the farm.

Things were very tense, and they were going to the farm as fast as they could.

The policeman didn't have time to ask Sika anything; it was a terrifying sight to see those helicopters heading towards the farm.

The policeman came Another call to all the police in the area said:

"Everyone must be warned. There's a fight going on between the Upper Egyptians, the landowners, the police, and the sick. Make sure you don't get bitten or scratched in any way, otherwise the disease will spread in minutes."

After hearing this, Sika asked,

"Why are you here, officer? I'm just a poor guy. I have nothing to do with this Upper Egyptian war, and I don't want to die from this disease."

The policeman had already gotten very close to the farm, and while he was angry at Sika's words, he didn't have time to reply before a bullet from a distance pierced his head, and he fell dead.

The car was still moving and crashed into the nearest tree. Sika fainted for a few moments. But while he was unconscious, he could hear the gunshots and the screams around him.

He started shouting to himself,

"Wake up! Wake up! Get up! I don't want to die here!"

He woke up after some water splashed past him following an explosion in front of the car, as it was on the left side of the water.

His eyes began Sika struggled to move and open the door, his body still paralyzed, but he was screaming inside for it to move before he died.

As soon as he opened his eyes, he looked ahead at the slain policeman and found the keys lying on the ground in his pocket. With bullets flying everywhere, he quickly and tremblingly tried to unlock his handcuffs.

"Open up, you bitch! Open up!"

Finally, he managed to open them, breaking the glass of the door beside him with his foot and freeing himself.

He landed on thick grass, surrounded by a strong, rotten stench. As he stood, he saw a canal and his dung heap in front of him, which explained the foul smell.

On the other side of the canal was the back of the barn.

The stench was unbearable.

He looked behind him at the other policeman, who had disappeared but left his bag behind, indicating that he hadn't been thinking of anything but escape, and that someone had killed him.

He ran towards the bag and laughed with relief. But his happiness was short-lived, as he heard footsteps approaching in the distance. The headlights of a car shone through the fog.

So he took the bag out of the car and ran towards the canal. He had to jump in because the sound was getting closer, accompanied by several warning shots fired into the air.

The canal was a little deep, so he tried to find a corner where he quickly buried the bag, took a deep breath, and lowered himself. He heard a voice from above cursing and shouting for men to look down at the canal. His heart was pounding in his chest.

He was afraid they would see him, so he tried to go down further. When they shone their flashlights, the water was very murky, and they couldn't see anything. Meanwhile, he found the cleaver in the bag and tried to prepare for anything.

He heard the sound of more shots in the distance, so the men headed towards the sound. He was almost out of breath, but he tried to hold on until he collided with the body of the other policeman lying beside him.

He almost died from the sight, as his head was shattered by a bullet.

As soon as he heard them move away, he jumped up to catch his breath and looked He turned around to make sure there was nothing there, then slowly emerged from the water. Finding no suitable vessel to move around in, he decided to bury the bag in the canal until he saw what would happen.

He crossed to the other side of the canal, hoping to find a car or any means of escaping this hell.

The fog was very thick, but he noticed a rattling sound. He tightened his grip on the cleaver, hoping it might be one of the patients, but he couldn't be sure, fearing that if he made a sound, he would become part of the conflict or be attacked by the patients.

So he decided to approach silently.

As he drew closer, the fog began to dissipate, and he heard screams coming from inside the front of the enclosure.
