Chapter 81 - Chapter 81: The Box of Ultimate Bliss

The Box of Ultimate Bliss was a ninja tool dating back to the era of the Sage of Six Paths, once hailed as an ultimate weapon.

It had briefly been in the possession of Hashirama Senju, but later fell into the hands of the Hidden Grass Village.

The Box had been opened once in the past, causing a massive catastrophe. After that disaster, it was forcibly sealed and buried deep beneath Hōzuki Castle in Kusagakure.

From that point on, Kusagakure split into two factions:

the Hardline faction, which advocated war, and the Flower faction, which advocated peace.

In the movie Naruto: Blood Prison, the Box of Ultimate Bliss made an appearance.

Later, it was sealed again—and even got blasted into a volcano by Killer B.

"You actually know about it?!"

The village leader frowned deeply. The next instant, he pulled out a whistle and blew it hard.

A piercing shrill cut through the silence.

Almost immediately, countless figures poured out of the village!

A black mass of ninjas, weapons drawn, killing intent surging.

Most of them were genin, mixed with some chūnin and a handful of jōnin, their eyes sharp and feral like wolves.

Wen Lan, however, smiled.

A calm smile—like wind passing over an ancient well, not stirring even a ripple.

"You think these seven jōnin, a little over twenty chūnin, and this pile of trash genin can exhaust me to death?"

The leader said coldly,

"Since you know the secret of the Box of Ultimate Bliss, then you should also know—

a thousand years ago, my Kusagakure almost dominated the ninja world with it!"

"Although we failed, no one ever knew the Box was hidden here.

We've simply been waiting for the right opportunity."

"So… we can't let you leave alive."

"Dominate the ninja world?"

Wen Lan sighed softly, brushing his bangs aside. His gaze suddenly turned icy.

"But you can't even protect the land beneath your own feet."

Before the words fully fell—

A burst of golden light exploded from his palm.

Golden lightning wrapped around his ninja blade as he stabbed it straight into the ground, then yanked it back out.

Fresh blood stained the blade crimson.

Wen Lan's three-tomoe Sharingan stared coldly at the spot he'd pierced.

"You really picked a great burial site for yourselves.

Saves the trouble of digging graves."

He had already sensed a ninja using Earth Release beneath his feet.

Blood sprayed from the rupture, and that strike ignited the signal of war.

"Attack!"

The leader formed seals rapidly. "Lightning Release: Earth Flow!"

"Water Release: Exploding Water Colliding Wave!"

A jōnin spewed out an enormous volume of water, instantly forming a lake!

Lightning surged through the water—

In an instant, the lake turned into a high-voltage electric net, sweeping toward Wen Lan!

"And you call this Lightning Release?"

Golden light flared around Wen Lan's body.

"Thunder Breathing — First Form: Thunderclap and Flash!"

Wen Lan transformed into a bolt of golden lightning and shot straight toward the leader!

Two jōnin beside the leader hastily formed seals.

"Earth Release: Swamp of the Underworld!"

"Earth Release Barrier: Earth Prison Dome!"

The golden lightning tore through the swamp in a blink— as if the center of a pond had suddenly vanished.

Just as Wen Lan's blade was about to reach the leader—

Countless stone blocks erupted from the ground, instantly enclosing Wen Lan inside a hemispherical stone sphere!

His blade slashed against the inner wall, sparks flying—but it didn't break through.

"Hm?"

Wen Lan frowned slightly.

[As expected… with just standard jōnin-level power, breaking this is still a bit troublesome.]

"Earth Release: Hiding in Rock Technique!"

A steady voice rang out.

Wen Lan saw more than ten chakra signatures swimming through the rock itself.

And there wasn't just one.

Suddenly, five figures burst out of the stone—from front, back, left, and right—kunai thrusting toward him!

Wen Lan twisted midair, blade flashing like a wheel.

Golden lightning detonated in the confined space.

The five figures grunted and were blasted backward. Cracks spread across the stone sphere like spiderwebs.

But at that moment—

A figure suddenly emerged from beneath the ground.

"Fire Release: Heavenly Prison!"

Ten crimson handprints slammed violently into Wen Lan's back.

He staggered forward several steps. There was no immediate physical injury—

—but it felt as if his body had been stuffed with gunpowder.

A searing heat surged through him.

He tore open his clothing and saw rope-like crimson markings binding his chest.

"Don't bother struggling."

A cold voice sounded nearby.

The man wore a long coat, his face stern.

"My name is Mui. This is my clan's unique Binding Technique.

Once it hits, you won't be able to use chakra."

Wen Lan looked down at the red seal on his chest.

He remembered—this man had appeared in the original movie.

Then Wen Lan grinned maliciously.

"And you think this can restrain me?"

He inhaled deeply.

Violent golden lightning erupted instantly!

"What?!"

Mui's pupils shrank violently.

By all logic, even tailed beasts would be weakened by the Binding Technique.

Humans shouldn't be able to use chakra at all!

Then why could Wen Lan still do it?!

"Who told you I'm using chakra?"

Wen Lan bared his teeth at Mui.

"And besides… the Binding Technique only works because the chakra output isn't explosive enough in a single instant."

"All you did was block chakra flow and expel it from my body."

"That means—"

Wen Lan's chakra exploded outward at once, vastly stronger than before.

His body was cloaked in green energy.

"—as long as I detonate all of it at once, I can break free!"

Sixth Gate — Gate of Joy — Open!

BOOM—!

The earth prison shattered instantly.

A storm of wind and rubble erupted outward as Wen Lan burst from the ruins like thunder itself, green chakra raging around his body like flames.

Mui's head was pierced straight through by a streak of lightning.

Blood sprayed.

Wen Lan had barely landed when his pupils suddenly constricted.

Because—

The Kusagakure leader was holding a woman hostage.

She had red hair, her face gaunt and exhausted.

Her exposed arms were covered in dense bite marks.

"Wen Lan! Surrender now, or I'll kill her!"

The leader roared hysterically.

"Heh—"

Wen Lan landed, sheathed his blade, and sneered.

"Are you joking?"

"You're holding her. Why should I surrender?"

The leader froze.

"Aren't you here for her?!"

"I am," Wen Lan replied calmly.

"If I can save her, I will.

But I won't sacrifice myself to trade for someone else's life."

"At most—if she dies, I'll personally slaughter every last person in Kusagakure and avenge her."

"And besides…"

His three-tomoe Sharingan spun wildly as genjutsu activated.

"Who told you… that you're allowed to look an Uchiha in the eyes?"

The Grass leader's gaze instantly went blank.

The woman broke free from his grasp and stood there, shaken and confused.

Wen Lan turned to the red-haired woman and spoke gently.

"I'm a Konoha ninja. My name is Uchiha Wen Lan."

"There are two Uzumaki clan members in our village.

Would you like to come with me?"

She raised her head. Her trembling lips parted, as if trying to speak—yet hesitating.

"Don't worry," Wen Lan continued calmly.

"One of them is the wife of the Fourth Hokage candidate."

"In Konoha, you'll never suffer what you endured in Kusagakure again."
