Chapter 71 - Chapter 71: The Admiral Buys a Jar

"What?"

"Mr. Amon is dead?"

The moment they heard Ivankov's words, both Dragon and Sabo were stunned.

Especially Sabo. He had always held deep gratitude toward Amon. Hearing Ivankov say that Amon had been killed by Kizaru, he was suddenly at a complete loss.

"Hahahaha, got you. I was lying. Amon did not lose. He actually scared Kizaru into backing down. I heard Marine Headquarters is even planning to cancel his wanted order."

Seeing the two of them panic like that, Ivankov's huge face was filled with delight.

Pranking them like this made him very happy.

"Uh..."

Dragon looked at Ivankov's bright, delighted expression and did not know what to say.

Sabo, on the other hand, had nearly twisted his waist when Ivankov's sudden nonsense had shocked him.

"How about it, that news is explosive, right? Who would have thought Amon could even push back an admiral. Just where did this monster come from?"

Ivankov said this while passing the documents he carried over to Dragon.

"It is surprising, but in a way it feels natural too."

Dragon took the file and smiled after taking a glance, recalling the day he had first met Amon. Even back then, he had found the jar merchant impossible to see through.

He had not expected Amon to give him such a big surprise.

"I never thought Mr. Amon could even defeat a Marine admiral. He is incredible."

After reading through the documents, Sabo was equally shaken by Amon's strength.

Back then, he had really thought Amon was just an ordinary jar merchant.

Who could have guessed that Amon would turn out to be so strong that even the World Government chose to compromise.

...

In the East Blue, while people all over the seas were shocked by Amon's feats, Amon himself had already gone back to doing what he loved most.

He returned to his little ship and continued his work as a jar merchant, selling jars as if nothing had happened.

To him, everything else was floating clouds. Only selling jars could truly make him happy.

Although he had the upper hand in his battle with Kizaru, it had not been easy to truly defeat the admiral. That told him his strength was still not enough.

After all, who knew if those lunatics would one day send all three admirals to gang up on him.

So his plan was simple. He wanted to sell another ten jars as soon as possible so he could open his exclusive jar again. That would be another layer of protection for his own safety.

On the small boat, the chefs could not believe that after such an earth-shaking battle, Amon could return to selling jars like it was just another normal day. They exchanged speechless glances.

As for Krieg and his men, they had already been taken away by the Marines, while Kizaru still had not left.

He stood off to the side, quietly waiting for the message from Headquarters. He knew that the news of his failure had definitely already reached Marineford, and that it would not be long before they told him what to do next.

Based on his understanding of Marine Headquarters and Sengoku, he guessed they would most likely choose compromise.

No one there was stupid enough to completely offend a powerhouse like Amon over a single Celestial Dragon. Who knew what kind of terrifying force might be standing behind a man like that.

Seeing that Kizaru did not leave, Amon simply ignored him and continued coaxing everyone to buy his jars.

Although some of them were still a little nervous, after witnessing both Amon's strength and the jars' miracles, the chefs on the ship began to buy one after another.

Many of them opened some pretty impressive items: heavy weapons, experience cards, even Devil Fruits. Someone even opened a Squirtle.

Amon had been shocked at the time. Damn it, he had not expected Pokémon to be inside the jars too.

Off to the side, Kizaru, who was waiting for orders from Headquarters, was equally stunned by the wide variety of things that popped out of Amon's jars.

"Oh, these jars look quite impressive."

Watching all the miraculous items appear, Kizaru could not help feeling a little tempted.

"Well, um, could I buy one too?"

Amon had not expected Kizaru to actually step forward and ask to buy a jar.

Inwardly he cursed. This guy really was shameless. He had just come here intending to arrest him, and once he realized he could not win, he surrendered.

Now he even wanted to buy a jar from him.

This guy had some nerve.

Still, Kizaru's luck was not bad. After everyone else on the ship had purchased their jars, there was exactly one left. That made things a bit awkward.

Forget it. Selling one to him was no big deal.

As a fan of this world, Amon did not actually hate Kizaru that much. The man might always wear that smug, punchable expression, but whenever he made a move, he often held back.

Even this time, he had come to capture Amon alive, not to kill him outright like Akainu would have tried to do.

Of course, selling him a jar was fine, but it definitely could not be cheap.

He had to at least slap a hundredfold "discount" on it.

"Hehe, your luck is not bad. There is exactly one left. But are you sure you want to buy it?"

Amon grabbed the last jar, smiling as he looked at Kizaru. The word "scheming" practically glowed across his face.

"Oh, since my luck is so good, I definitely want to try it."

Kizaru had no idea Amon was about to rip him off. When he heard there was only one left, he immediately decided he had to buy it and try his luck.

"All right then. Since you insist, I will even give you a discount. Hmm, how big a discount should I give you?"

Kizaru had been worried Amon might refuse to sell to him. He had not expected Amon to agree so readily, and even offer to give him a discount. His face lit up with joy.

What a good person.

Such generosity, truly admirable.

However, the moment Amon spoke again, the smile on Kizaru's face froze.

Still smiling brightly, Amon said, "Okay then. Since you like it so much, I will give you a hundredfold discount. The original price is one hundred thousand Berries per jar, so for you, I will sell it for only ten million."

"Yes, you heard right. The jar that originally costs one hundred thousand, now costs only ten million. Do not ask why it is more expensive after the discount. It is because there is a middleman making a profit."

"Pfft..."

As soon as Amon said that, everyone almost spat out their drinks.

They had seen discounts before, but this was the first time they had seen a discount like this. Was this really what he called a discount?

"How about it, still want to buy? This really is the last one."

Amon watched Kizaru's twitching mouth with a playful expression.

"Oh, really, I just cannot with you. Ten million Berries, I will take it."

Kizaru's eyes were sharp. He had just watched several people open all kinds of incredible things. Any random treasure was worth more than ten million.

The bounty on that unlucky pirate they had just captured earlier was already ten million.

"This jar is mine. Wait here for a moment."

Kizaru spoke, then his body flashed as he disappeared.

He did not have that much cash on him, so he headed back to the warship to get the money.

Amon had not expected Kizaru to agree so easily.

Fine. If he had known, he would have said one hundred million. Admirals really did have money to burn...

If Kizaru knew what Amon was thinking, even with his laid-back personality, he would probably not be able to stop himself from cursing Amon's entire family.
