Chapter 20 - Lucas, You Can't Hit My Head!

Lucas hurriedly turned his head at the sound. Instantly, he cursed inwardly.

Why is she here too?!

Behind the two of them stood a woman in a black dress.

Her makeup had a cooler tone.

However, her beautiful face with its understated makeup held a trace of失落 (disappointment/loss).

But she hid it very well.

No one could notice.

Lucas quickly said, "Miss Laurent, what are you doing here too?"

A headache.

Two women appearing at once.

Disastrous.

Wait...

Counting the little secretary inside, that made three women!

Lucas: !!!

Who could withstand this?

Three women making a scene?

Camille Laurent was wearing a black dress, though it looked more like a black evening gown, the long skirt reaching just above her ankles.

She walked over in high heels, a slight smile on her face. "I live here."

"I wanted to be closer to the company. I didn't expect you to be here too."

As she spoke, her beautiful eyes glanced at Claire Dubois beside Lucas and she smiled. "This is Miss Claire Dubois, right?"

"Hello, I'm Camille Laurent." Camille extended her small hand.

Seeing her gesture, Claire also smiled and extended her own hand. The two shook gently.

"Hello, Miss Laurent. We finally meet tonight."

Both knew of each other.

But they had never actually met.

The reason they knew was because when Camille pursued Adrien Lefèvre, he often mentioned her.

So she had looked into her.

Although they moved in the same social circle and stratum, this was indeed their first meeting.

Claire knew Camille was from the Cheng (~Laurent) family. As for her pursuing Adrien... she knew that too.

Because Adrien often brought it up.

Bragging about who he had rejected.

The two women weren't as sharply confrontational as one might imagine. Instead, they were rather calm.

But if you looked into their eyes, you'd see it.

A sharp, clashing edge in both their gazes.

Seeing this, Lucas felt a major headache coming on.

What the heck.

How do I explain this?

Of course, as a professional warm-hearted (and slightly scheming) guy, Lucas quickly stepped in to smooth things over. "Haha, since we're so fated, why don't we go out for a cup of milk tea and chat for a bit?"

The main issue was that this really couldn't continue.

Of these two women, he had interacted with Camille the most.

But Claire...

She seemed to consider him a friend too.

It's just...

This made flirting much harder. At the very least, they'd have a baseline guard up.

Hearing this, Camille laughed first. "Alright, I'm fine with that."

"What about you, Miss Dubois?"

Hearing this, Claire smiled slightly and politely declined. "I'll pass. I need to give Pudding her medicine."

"Another day, my treat."

Seeing her refuse, Lucas breathed a sigh of relief.

Thank goodness.

Miss Dubois was sensible.

If all three of them really went out together, who knows what kind of conflict might arise.

Their roles in the later plot were significant.

For a dead Adrien Lefèvre, Camille had nearly driven the Bai family to despair.

If not for the protagonist's intervention,

victory would very likely have been Camille's.

Sandwiched between them, Lucas wisely chose not to speak.

Camille nodded. "Alright. Let's find time to chat when we're free."

"Mhm."

With that, Claire left, holding her Ragdoll cat, Pudding.

And the direction she headed... was exactly the building where Lucas lived.

Barbecue! (Slang for 'I'm done for')

Lucas inwardly groaned.

The days ahead probably wouldn't be easy.

From now on, he'd have to make dates far away. Otherwise, being seen by anyone could have a negative impact.

Once Claire disappeared from their sight,

Camille's smile vanished. She turned to look at Lucas, her expression seeming somewhat... (wronged)?

Seeing this expression, Lucas was utterly baffled.

What's wrong with you?

Camille said in a soft, weak voice, "Lucas, how come you were walking with Claire Dubois?"

She had already found out that Lucas lived here.

She had actually come looking for him.

But as soon as she reached the building entrance, she saw him and Claire chatting and laughing, about to go for milk tea.

Life is bitter.

Seeing the usually assertive Camille suddenly change her attitude, Lucas's mind buzzed.

"You... what's going on with you?"

He was almost speechless.

"And, why are you here? Don't you live over in Tianhe Villa?"

Camille said seriously, "I moved here starting today."

"How was I supposed to know you'd be here too?"

"What's wrong... did I interrupt your date with Sister Dubois?"

As she said this, she even looked a bit pitiful.

Her current appearance, combined with her face, was at maximum (lethality) for any man!

Thump!

Without another word, Lucas flicked her on the head.

"What are you talking about?"

"Miss Dubois and I are just normal friends. Saying that is slander. I could sue you." Lucas said, half-scolding, half-joking.

Of course, it was mostly a joke.

This was only possible because Claire had left and wouldn't be home quickly enough to spy on them.

Otherwise, Lucas would be acting very proper right now.

Camille rubbed her head and said, "Lucas, you can't hit my head!"

Though her words sounded a bit fierce,

inside, she felt a strange sensation.

It was just a little tap like that, but she actually felt... a sense of enjoyment?!

Ahhhh!

Am I sick?

Camille was frantically questioning herself internally, but her body was very honest. She chirped excitedly, "Hey, are you going to buy me milk tea?"

Hearing this, Lucas instinctively glanced at Building A.

Then he said, "Let's go."

He didn't know which floor Claire lived on, but at this moment, if he hurried out with Camille, she probably wouldn't see them, right?

She won't see, she won't see!

Lucas grabbed Camille's small hand and sprinted towards the community gate.

"You... slow down!"

"I'm wearing high heels!"

Camille's (complaining) voice sounded.

Lucas explained, "Hurry up! Any later and that milk tea shop will close!"

Any later and Claire might see us!

The two jogged to the community's main gate.

Then, coming towards them was a Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Adrien's!

Seeing Adrien Lefèvre's exclusive vehicle, Camille unconsciously let go of Lucas's hand.

As if afraid Adrien would see her holding hands with another man.

However,

the Phantom didn't stop, driving straight past them into the complex.

Inside the car,

Adrien looked out the window at the two standing there. A flicker of jealousy rose on his handsome face, but he still snorted coldly. "Just as I thought, they got together. (Scoundrels)!"
