Chapter 8 - Don’t Keep a Cold Face—Come, Smile

Camille Laurent looked at the man squatting in front of her.

For a brief moment, she caught a trace of restrained distress flickering in his eyes, which made her heart tighten slightly.

This…

Before she could speak, she heard Lucas say calmly,

"I told you yesterday—don't cry anymore."

"Why won't you listen?"

He gently wiped away her tears, then smiled.

"The way you cry isn't beautiful at all."

"It's better to cry less."

As someone who had dealt with countless broken-hearted women, Lucas could be said to have maxed out his experience.

A seasoned "sea king" wasn't afraid of handling wounded hearts.

He had done this countless times before.

Take before, for instance: a university belle was heartbroken and crying in the rain after being dumped.

In the end, Lucas went up to comfort her, helped her let go of those unworthy memories.

And then he took her out.

At times like this, as long as a man was handsome enough, the chances of entering a woman's heart were extremely high.

Camille stared at him, unblinking.

It took her a long while before she finally spoke, her voice low and hesitant.

"Lucas… why are you being so good to me?"

She didn't understand.

She had already been abandoned like this—so why would he still choose to treat her well?

Was it because of money?

But she had never once seen desire in Lucas's eyes.

What she saw instead was a faint sense of pity.

Lucas heard her question and smiled softly.

"I can't stand seeing girls cry."

"When I was in an orphanage, there was a girl who cried every day. Whenever she cried, I could only comfort her."

"So now, when I see girls crying, it's almost a conditioned reflex."

Camille frowned slightly.

Orphanage?

What kind of past was that?

Still—he really was good at making up stories.

She didn't say anything.

She simply looked at Lucas quietly, letting him tidy her hair and gently wipe the corners of her eyes.

His movements were light, as if he were afraid of ruining her makeup.

But Camille hadn't worn makeup for a long time now.

After a while, Lucas placed his hands on her shoulders and helped her up from the ground.

"Alright. This looks much better now."

He nodded in satisfaction.

When he saw her reddened eyes, he reached out again, lightly brushing the corner of her eye.

"It's just that your eyes are a bit red."

"Pfft." Camille was amused by his words.

But in an instant, she became serious again.

Not smiling casually.

It seemed she didn't want to show her true self in front of other men.

Camille instinctively turned her head to look in the direction Adrien Lefèvre had left, as if still concerned about his feelings.

Sure enough.

The moment she turned her head, she saw Adrien standing there, watching her with an ugly expression on his face.

Seeing his complex look of anger and disdain, Camille's heart was a whirl of mixed emotions.

Outside the gates of the Su family villa.

Adrien had also seen the entire process of Lucas wiping Camille's tears, and had even seen her smile.

In that moment, Adrien was actually somewhat taken aback by her beauty.

But the moment Camille turned to look at him, he immediately lost any favorable impression again.

Adrien snorted coldly. "Two狗男女 (scoundrels), a perfect match!"

"Helping someone wipe tears? Isn't that just for their money?"

For some reason, he actually found it hard to accept Camille being touched by another man.

It was as if something belonging to him was being snatched away.

But the pride in his heart, and recalling his own disgust for Camille, made him feel it wasn't a big deal.

So what if he takes her?

That way, no one will bother me anymore.

Bang!

Adrien pushed the door open, then closed it heavily with a loud sound.

Hearing this sound, the corner of Lucas's mouth lifted slightly.

Big brother.

I'm doing this for your own good.

Anyway, you don't like Camille either, so I'll comfort her on your behalf, get her to stop bothering you.

Aren't you supposed to thank me?

Seeing this scene, a thread of coldness in Camille's heart gradually amplified.

This...

Is this his attitude towards me?

Am I really that annoying to him?

Does he find even looking at me excessive?

As she was lost in thought, Lucas's gentle, magnetic voice sounded by her ear. "Alright, have you eaten?"

"You've been waiting here a long time, haven't you?"

Camille snapped back to reality, somewhat surprised. "How did you know I waited a long time?"

Lucas smiled and didn't answer.

Adrien usually returned here after work. The journey from the Su Group headquarters here was about an hour.

He usually got home around seven.

But today, Adrien had gone to the Bai residence first before coming back here.

It was already half past ten at night.

How long Camille had waited, he could easily imagine.

Lucas smiled slightly. "Hungry?"

Hearing this, Camille fell silent for a moment.

Finally, she nodded.

She really had waited a long time.

From six-thirty until now, she hadn't even had a sip of water in between.

Let alone eaten.

But deep in her heart, another voice told her she couldn't just accept kindness from a stranger!

However...

The Lucas before her made her feel a gentleness she had never experienced before.

Compared to Adrien, whom she had been pursuing, Lucas was undoubtedly more handsome, had a bit more masculine charm, and that innate (aura/temperament) - all of it added points for Lucas.

It was also changing her view of him.

He's really good...

Especially since she had looked up Lucas's information last night and was also shocked by his background.

She came from a prominent family.

She knew how difficult it was for a person to go from zero to billions.

But he... had done it in just three short years.

Moreover, his attitude towards her was really... very gentle.

Camille's heart felt a bit turbulent.

Seeing her nod, Lucas said with a smile, "Let's go, I'll take you to eat."

"Crying like a big, messy cat, isn't your stomach uncomfortable?"

Saying this, he turned around, but at the same time, he took Camille's small hand and led her away.

Camille was somewhat taken aback by his action.

She instinctively wanted to pull away.

But somehow, she stopped herself.

And so, she allowed Lucas to hold her hand and lead her towards his car.

Arriving at the passenger seat of the Porsche Cayenne.

Lucas opened the door. "Get in."

Camille said nothing, simply getting into his car.

But the moment she got in, a large hand suddenly pressed against her head.

"Don't look so cold. Come on, smile."
