The Tree Fruit Cultivation System was a brand-new interface within the glasses system, designed specifically to produce tree fruits with special purposes.
According to the system's classification, the entire cultivation process was divided into five stages: planting, sprouting, growth, flowering, and fruiting. The fruits harvested were usually of the same type as the seed planted, though on rare occasions, different types of tree fruits could grow together.
At present, Shiraishi possessed nineteen skill cards. Based on the system's rules, this allowed him to perform nineteen random extractions of tree-fruit energy. These energies could be infused into ordinary plants found in nature, instantly initiating the cultivation process.
Once the fruits matured, the seeds contained within them could be replanted to cultivate new tree fruits. Naturally, there was also a certain probability that mutations could occur, producing different varieties.
"Other types of tree fruits…"
The interface felt almost like something straight out of a game. Within the glasses, the fruit system began its random draw. A virtual device shaped like a capsule machine appeared, and under a burst of golden light, the first tree-fruit seed was unlocked.
It had the appearance of crimson petals, giving off an impression of rich fragrance.
Pomeg Berry, purple-grade.
After consumption, for a short period of time, it reduced the damage taken from Dragon-type attacks, greatly increasing resistance.
Dragon-type?
Shiraishi had yet to master any Dragon-type techniques. From the interface classification, however, Dragon-type seemed similar to Fairy-type—both categorized as forms of natural energy.
This suggested that the berry was effective against certain senjutsu-related or special natural-energy clans. It seemed likely that vast regions of the shinobi world were home to races with Dragon-type traits.
According to the system's data, tree fruits could not be preserved for long periods, but they could be crushed and refined into special soldier pills, temporarily enhancing specific attributes.
To test the cultivation time of the Pomeg Berry, Shiraishi chose a small plant in his backyard.
Confirm infusion of tree-fruit energy?
After Shiraishi confirmed the prompt, a strand of golden light flowed into the plant. Almost immediately, a faint glow appeared around the sapling, signaling that the initial planting phase had been completed.
With the first plant successfully cultivated, Shiraishi continued drawing tree fruits.
From the remaining extractions, he obtained three additional purple-grade fruits, while the rest were white-grade.
One example was the Chople Berry, a pink fruit with a distinct spicy flavor. After consumption, it granted resistance to Fire-type attacks.
Similar in effect to the Pomeg Berry, these fruits primarily enhanced elemental resistance. Among the total fruits drawn were also the Kasib Berry, which increased resistance to Water-type attacks, and the Wacan Berry, which reduced damage from Lightning-type attacks.
Aside from these four purple-grade fruits, the remaining fruits were all ordinary white-grade varieties. They differed mainly in flavor and taste, offering a range of sensory experiences.
While these white-grade fruits could add variety when Shiraishi cooked, their utility was relatively limited. That said, once planted, they still had a chance—however small—to mutate into other types of fruits.
Based on Shiraishi's estimation, mutations were far more likely to result in other white-grade fruits. Higher-grade mutations would be significantly more difficult.
At the final extraction, Shiraishi hesitated.
After drawing so many white-grade fruits, his luck felt abysmal. He considered stopping—but in the end, he pressed the button anyway, deciding to gamble on this final pull.
Light spiraled and intensified. A radiant golden glow burst forth.
After nineteen extractions, Shiraishi finally obtained a gold-grade tree fruit.
Sitrus Berry, gold-grade.
It had an extremely bitter taste. After consumption, it enhanced intelligence.
"…Intelligence?"
This fruit stimulated biological brain cells, granting heightened intellect. While it wasn't particularly useful for Shiraishi himself, it could be fed to his summoned beasts, greatly increasing their intelligence.
With nineteen skill cards already in hand, Shiraishi only needed one more to unlock his second summoning slot. The Sitrus Berry would be invaluable in strengthening his future summons.
After finishing these tasks, Shiraishi took out a sheet of paper and a pen, thinking about what to write to Maki.
The night before leaving Kikyo Mountain, he had promised her that once he returned to the village, he would regularly write letters. Now that the moment had arrived, his mind suddenly went blank.
Let's start by telling her I'm safe…
He had already returned to the village. There was no need for her to worry.
Shiraishi wrote with extreme care, forming each character meticulously. The first letter he ever wrote to Maki contained only this single sentence. After sealing it, he placed it into Sunagakure's official mail channel.
For some reason, he suddenly felt nervous.
To suppress that feeling, Shiraishi picked up his silver blade and headed straight for the training grounds.
Amid swirling sand and wind, a white-clad youth began to dance with his blade. The silver edge carved dazzling tactical arcs through the air as whirlwinds spiraled outward, transforming into rolling blades of wind.
Though he had mastered many new techniques, Shiraishi understood that physical conditioning remained the foundation. Taijutsu, genjutsu, and ninjutsu all needed to develop together—only balanced growth truly mattered.
The blade reflected and rebounded continuously in his hands. Under the sharp gleam of steel, Shiraishi's focus wavered slightly today.
Writing to Maki for the first time—putting his feelings onto paper—made him anxious. He feared she might dislike such a simple, brief letter.
The more he thought about it, the warmer his face became, as if heat were rising uncontrollably. His silver blade spun faster. Chakra threads and telekinesis combined, launching outward the instant the blade moved.
Shiraishi's combat style fused telekinesis, chakra threads, and the silver blade. Invisible threads paired with high-speed wind slashes, combining softness and rigidity. With high-speed movement and sand-gathering support, his ability to hold ground in battle had increased dramatically.
As the telekinetic force beneath his feet intensified, Shiraishi lifted off the ground entirely. His blade spun at extreme speed, carving devastating, slashing waves across the training field.
The commotion drew the attention of nearby residents. Shiraishi's home was in a village-assigned residential area, surrounded by other ninja households. Many were recovering from injuries and had come out to train—naturally witnessing his practice.
"I thought his talent was only in developing techniques," an older ninja murmured, watching the overlapping afterimages of Shiraishi's movements.
"But now it seems he places just as much importance on basic taijutsu."
The young man's growth was astonishing.
