Chapter 44 - Tsunade

Within the shroud of Black Mist, Konoha ninja attempted to rely on on-site sensory support. However, under the flow of this dark mist, several sensory ninja felt an unnatural chill creeping over their bodies, as though the fog were seeping directly into their skin and cells.

Under this strange suppressive effect, their sensory abilities were severely limited. The battlefield instantly descended into chaos.

Sunagakure's side was briefly thrown off balance as well, but Shiraishi quickly used chakra threads to discreetly signal Kitajima, explaining that this was the result of his newly developed technique.

So that's how it is—

The captain really does cause this kind of upheaval just by testing a new jutsu.

Once they confirmed it was Shiraishi's doing, Kitajima and the rest of the Sunagakure squad immediately resumed their offensive. Black Mist obscured vision, but it did not stop battle—before long, the mist was filled with the sounds of slaughter, steel colliding with steel, and muffled screams.

"That technique… It's somewhat similar to Kirigakure's mist techniques, but the chakra nature feels different. Much colder than ordinary Kirigakure water mist."

From afar, Orochimaru watched the Medical Corps area engulfed in black Mist, a flicker of intrigue crossing his eyes.

"For a moment, it almost feels like this isn't Sunagakure attacking—but Kirigakure instead. Could this be that so-called 'sensory-blocking technique'?"

If that were the case, it would mean Kirigakure and Sunagakure were truly working together.

Ebizō did not answer Orochimaru's speculation. Two of the mud-and-sand giants behind him had already been destroyed, while the remaining two continued their frenzied assault. The two old monsters exchanged ninjutsu endlessly, probing each other's depths.

These massive black Mists…

Could this really be that brat Shiraishi's latest experiment?

The eerie Mist continued to spread. Konoha swiftly adopted tight formations, standing back-to-back instead of scattering in panic. Shiraishi was not surprised—this was the strongest village in the ninja world, and their discipline was first-rate.

Taking advantage of this moment, Shiraishi activated the card-locating function of his glasses. Of the remaining three cards nearby, two were green, and one was white.

Green cards required roughly five seconds to read—longer than white or blue cards. After a brief consideration, Shiraishi headed straight for the white card first.

Within the Mist, a Medical Corps chūnin stood back-to-back with two companions, tense and fully alert. As a newly promoted medical ninja, the young man was clearly nervous, watching every shift in the darkness.

Suddenly, an eerie wolf howl echoed through the fog.

The sound was terrifying in the pitch-black mist. The three ninja instinctively pressed closer together. A spinning wind blade shot through the darkness, forcing them to react separately—and then the wolf howls multiplied.

Almost simultaneously, countless howls erupted from the Mist.

The Desert Blood Wolves summoned by Shiraishi launched a sudden assault on the Konoha ninja in the area.

Amid the fierce melee, one of the young medical ninja's companions was suddenly rushed down, her neck torn open by a blood wolf's fangs.

The blood wolf was fast—biting away half her neck in an instant before retreating. Facing his gravely wounded teammate, the medical ninja hesitated for not even a second, immediately casting a healing technique on the girl of a similar age.

"Hold on, Xiaomei!"

"Don't worry about me…"

From within the fog, Shiraishi coldly observed the scene. The blood wolf's bite had been deliberate—it had not killed her outright. Only this way would the medical ninja devote himself fully to saving his companion.

As the card entered reading range, Shiraishi silently initiated the scan through his glasses, raising his silver blade toward the boy's back.

The blade hovered near the back of the young man's skull—

—and then he heard the boy's voice.

"Xiaomei… you'll be fine soon. I still want to keep eating the bentō you make."

Sweat poured down his forehead. Exhausted and strained, the medical ninja showed no regret, throwing everything he had into saving her.

For a brief moment, Shiraishi was shaken.

You and I are not the same.

The instant the girl was healed, Shiraishi's blade pierced straight through the medical ninja's forehead. Blood and brain matter splashed across the silver glow of the blade, reflecting a cruel, cold sheen. In the girl's fading, confused consciousness, she saw his brow split open, his expression frozen forever.

After killing the boy with a single strike, Shiraishi's blade followed through—

and plunged into the girl's chest as well.

The Skill Unlock System immediately reacted.

A white card with a blue border appeared, displaying a Water-type skill.

Flying Water Shuriken.

Like Bubble, it was a Water-type initial skill. The description stated that it formed shuriken from water chakra, and that consecutive attacks guaranteed preemptive strikes.

A forced-lock skill?

Both Black Mist and Flying Water Shuriken were low-tier initial skills—easy to learn, but requiring time to raise proficiency to the maximum.

Since this was Shiraishi's first time using Black Mist, its duration was limited. The fog began to thin and dissipate. Just as Shiraishi prepared to withdraw, a shrill, furious female voice exploded through the battlefield:

"DIE!"

A single, monstrous punch detonated the remaining Black Mist entirely.

Shiraishi didn't even have time to retract his blade before his figure was fully exposed in the center of the Konoha camp.

There was no denying it—Shiraishi's method of killing was brutal. One strike, two lives. And that medical ninja had clearly been risking his life to save a companion.

The impact of that scene on Tsunade was beyond words.

That single slash made one of the Three Legendary Sannin visibly change expression. The blood coating the silver blade unsettled her—but the pressure radiating from her body was even more terrifying.

Feeling the explosive surge of chakra from the woman before him—

feeling how she had completely ignored Black Mist, blowing it apart with a single punch—

Shiraishi instantly understood one thing.

He was not her opponent.

Before Tsunade could speak another word, she strode toward him, her overwhelming presence crashing down like a natural disaster. The sheer violence of her power left no room to dodge, no space to retreat.

"Captain, fall back!"

Fukuyama and Kitajima moved at the same time, throwing themselves between Tsunade and Shiraishi.

Their bones and muscles bulged grotesquely as they activated Earth Release hardening, attempting to withstand Tsunade's fist.

But the power she unleashed was something no two chūnin could even begin to measure.

Tsunade's punch tore through them without the slightest resistance.

She had clearly intended to crush skulls—but perhaps unwilling to stain her hands with blood, she shifted mid-strike. One punch slammed Fukuyama into the ground, followed by a brutal elbow that sent the "King Kong Barbie" Kitajima flying through the air, his face drained of color.

She broke through them effortlessly.

This alone was enough to prove it—

Among the medical ninja, Tsunade was a complete anomaly. A monster of pure combat power.

"Ebizō… are you really underestimating me this much?"

On another part of the battlefield, Orochimaru laughed wildly.

"So what if the sensory-blocking technique is real? Do you really think I can't guess your intentions?"

"What?" Ebizō's pupils shrank.

"Summoning Technique!"

With Orochimaru's cold shout, countless sealing arrays and summoning formations erupted across the high ground of Kikyo Pass. At some unknown point, he had planted summoning formations inside Sunagakure's territory itself.

In an instant, endless venomous snakes flooded into Sunagakure's rear lines.

"Your main forces are all inside the Konoha camp right now," Orochimaru sneered at Ebizō.

"Kikyo Pass is completely hollow. Whether your real target was the Sensory Unit or the Medical Corps… it doesn't matter anymore."

The colossal snake tide tore into Sunagakure's rear defenses—

while at the same time, Shiraishi found himself facing Tsunade's full pursuit.

And among the Three Legendary Sannin—

Tsunade's rapidly rising fury had now focused entirely on one person.

Shiraishi.
