Chapter 83: Parasyte
Jake squeezed through the crowd, watching Murano Satomi and Izumi Shinichi gradually disappear into the distance.
Only after they were far away did he emerge from the crowd.
The man in the black suit who had intervened earlier was indeed him.
The reason he had stepped in was because she was the female lead of this movie world.
He squinted at the blazing sun in the sky; it was dazzling, but the temperature wasn't high. However, his suit, modified from a magical tuxedo, had a perfect temperature-regulating function, so he only needed to wear this one suit, regardless of freezing cold or scorching heat.
Just as he was thinking of finding a place to rest, a slightly sleazy-looking overweight man approached.
The man was wearing a baseball cap, and his smile was quite lewd. "Excuse me, sir," the man blocked Jake's path, adjusting his hat and sizing him up.
"Yeah? What do you want?" Jake never denied that he was someone who judged by appearances. As they say, the face reflects the soul; this heavy-set man in front of him had such a sleazy smile, he was definitely not a good person.
"Hehe," the man rubbed his hands together and said, "I saw your move just now, it was awesome!"
"Thanks," Jake said lightly, trying to walk past the man, but unexpectedly, the man stepped in front of him again.
"Don't be in such a hurry," he laughed. "To tell you the truth, I'm actually a talent scout. Your move just now was very impressive, and considering your looks, are you interested in acting?"
A talent scout?
Jake subconsciously touched his face.
He wasn't ugly, and was even somewhat handsome, but that bit of handsomeness wasn't enough to make him an actor. Compared to some male models and celebrities, he was still far behind.
However, the hard work he had put into training every day for the past few months had made his body stronger, and his face more mature and resolute, unknowingly adding a certain appeal.
"What kind of acting?" Jake was really embarrassed to turn around and leave after someone who appreciated his appearance approached him.
"The biggest in all of Japan," he said, handing over a business card. "Our company is preparing to launch a male star. After all, there's been an overabundance of female talent these days, and they can't fill the market gap."
Taking the card, Jake glanced at it and turned to leave.
He casually tossed the card into the air; the thin card tumbled rapidly before settling on the ground.
It had the English words "Tokyo-Hot" written on it.
This talent scout seemed used to rejection; instead of giving up, he shouted loudly at Jake, "If you want to act, remember to contact me!"
"This country really has all sorts of people," Jake sighed, watching a girl in a sailor uniform walking home from school.
Who would have thought that his first trip to Japan would lead to being scouted by an adult film company? And they were going to turn him into a top star? Without his dimension-traveling abilities, Jake might not have been able to refuse this job that any man would secretly consider.
But now, who wants to be an adult film actor?!
If the human population were halved, would the number of burned forests also be halved?
If the human population were reduced to one percent, would the indiscriminate release of toxic gas also decrease to one percent?
This is the world of Parasyte.
One day, many spores appeared in Earth's atmosphere. The larvae born from these spores invaded human bodies, devouring the host's brain and taking over the "corpse."
The protagonist, Izumi Shinichi, is one of the humans parasitized by these creatures. However, due to some accident, the parasite inside him didn't eat his brain but instead took over his right hand.
For the sake of his friends and family killed by the parasites and for the future of all humanity, Shinichi begins a series of life-or-death battles against other fully-formed parasites.
Jake recalled the plot of the movie. It was a live-action film adapted from a manga and anime. Many anime-based movies existed in the real world, and since this one could be entered, Jake could naturally visit it, even potentially create a film based on it himself.
This was an extremely bloody movie. Compared to The Host, which was suitable for teenagers, the invading parasites in the Parasyte world were far more disturbing; even adults would find the gore difficult to stomach.
They weren't like the "Souls" in The Host world, which were relatively benign parasites.
In the world of The Host, if a Soul leaves the host, the host can regain consciousness, only losing the memories of the period during which they were parasitized.
However, in the world of Parasyte, the relationship between these parasites and their hosts is far less friendly. First, they forcibly replace the human brain; if the parasite leaves the host's body, the host is merely a corpse without consciousness.
Furthermore, they are extremely intelligent, choosing to feed on unparasitized members of their own species.
That is, if they parasitize a human, they eat humans; if they parasitize a dog, they eat dogs. The reason is simple: the parasites believe that if something is lacking in a certain substance, it must be replenished with the same substance. They treat humans as a type of organism, and when they are hungry—lacking nutrition—
the fastest way to replenish that nutrition is not by buying food from the supermarket, but by consuming individuals possessing the substances they lack.
This method of replenishment is also more comprehensive, and they believe it is simple and direct.
Moreover, the origin of the parasites in this film is interesting; they are parasites created by humanity's destruction of nature, carrying a somewhat satirical message about mankind.
Parasitic organisms appear because humans don't protect nature, then parasitize humans, only to choose to eat them, creating a cycle that seems like nature's punishment for humanity.
Jake was reviewing information about this world.
"Giggle!"
Suddenly, Jake heard girls' laughter and saw two young women in sailor uniforms standing in the distance, pointing and laughing at him.
He looked down at his clothes; nothing was wrong. He noticed the two girls laughing even harder.
Although they were petite with somewhat thick legs, Jake didn't dislike them; at least they were cute.
The two girls seemed to finally notice Jake's gaze. Suddenly, their laughter subsided, and they skipped away hand in hand. However, judging from their frequent glances back while talking, they were still discussing him.
"I wonder what they're talking about," Jake thought, looking at his clothes again; still nothing was wrong.
Finally, he stopped caring and continued walking along the path.
He felt a sense of ease, as if he were in an anime world, but in this bloody world, such a relaxed atmosphere wouldn't last long.
"Since the spores of these parasites all come from outer space, finding the nearest factory should be enough they are hiding there because they like polluted area ."
These parasites, are alien that actually quite similar to viruses, which should be a good fit for Dr. Simms's expertise.
Taking a taxi, Jake arrived at the largest factory in the area, directed by the taxi driver.
"Hopefully, I can get some of the most primitive parasites."
In order to find work for Simms and to ensure that the research on parasites would yield good results, Jake planned to capture some parasites in various developmental stages.
