Chapter 72 - Chapter 72: Capturing the Doctor

Chapter 72: Capturing the Doctor

Cobb, carrying his briefcase, stood on the metal platform, watching the three-way standoff forming below. He couldn't help but say, "You're not planning to fight both of them, are you?"

"How can I take the person I want without defeating them?" Jake said, tilting his head and smiling at Del Blaine, startling the CSA rookie.

Then Jake suddenly vanished from his spot, reappearing with an M16 rifle!

While the others were still processing why Jake had disappeared and reappeared so quickly, he opened fire!

The automatic rifle spewed flames relentlessly, bullets hammering Banning's chest. The high-velocity rounds, like the fangs of a wild beast, quickly overwhelmed the tuxedo's defenses. However, Jake didn't intend to kill him—he stopped firing immediately.

A rush of air whistled past his left ear. He instinctively raised his gun and pulled the trigger!

Rat-a-tat-tat-tat!!

The attacker seemed startled and quickly retreated.

Jake then turned around and saw that his ambusher was none other than Jimmy Tong!

"I've always said you remind me a lot of a friend of mine, Jimmy," Jake said, turning to face Jimmy directly, simultaneously aiming his rifle at him in a combat-ready stance.

"He must have been screwed over by you too."

"You're not wrong," Jake replied, recalling the Armour of God incident, where they'd expended enormous resources only to obtain a single piece of treasure—the memory was almost comical.

The two began to fight. Jake gripped his rifle tightly, wielding it like a staff, his advanced gun-kata techniques giving him the upper hand. Jimmy, on the other hand, was just an ordinary person who had gained immense strength only because of his tuxedo—his combat awareness was extremely poor.

The difference in skill was immediately apparent.

After exchanging blows more than a dozen times, Jake pressed the rifle barrel against Jimmy's temple. "Take off your watch!"

"Don't try anything clever," Jake warned. He knew that characters in Jackie Chan movies loved to use tricks, and many villains had been defeated because of it. "We're both wearing this combat suit—you should know whether a fist or a bullet is faster!"

Jimmy didn't speak, but judging from his posture, he had given up resisting.

Taking Jimmy's watch and casually pocketing it in his suit jacket, Jake also holstered his gun. Without his tuxedo, Jimmy Tong's fighting ability was even inferior to that of rookie agent Del Blaine.

Speaking of Del Blaine, Jake smiled at her slightly frightened expression, walked over, and pulled out his phone.

Click—!

Looking at the photo, Jake nodded with satisfaction.

As one of the most popular actresses of the late '90s and early 2000s, Jennifer Love Hewitt was a rare beauty in Jake's mind.

However, judging from the situation, the two of them probably wouldn't end up together.

"Would you mind taking a photo with me?" Jake turned to Del with a smile and asked in a very friendly manner.

Del's surprised expression instantly transformed into an apologetic smile. Jake's peculiar stance, holding a gun in one hand and playing with his phone in the other, made people worried he might accidentally fire it, so her tone was very polite. "Of course, of course... I don't mind at all."

"Perfect." He nodded and set the rookie agent aside for now. Then he turned to the other two men present, Banning and Jimmy Tong. "Now, please remove your suits."

He suddenly realized it would be wasteful to leave behind these two tuxedos that had basically been gift-wrapped for him. Even if he already had one, he could take another back to study.

Jimmy was more cooperative. He was just an ordinary guy, and especially since both he and Banning, even wearing tuxedos, couldn't beat Jake—what was the point of arguing at this stage?

Banning, on the other hand, wanted to resist, but the gun barrel pointed at him seemed to be reminding him not to do anything reckless.

Poor Banning had to remove the tuxedo he'd only worn for less than an hour.

And the suit was badly damaged by Jake's gunfire. Even Jake was somewhat disgusted handling it, but it was high-tech equipment and couldn't be wasted.

The two tuxedos were an unexpected bonus. Jake carried the clothing over to Dr. Simms, who had been too scared to move since the beginning.

"You invented the water strider virus?"

"Y-yes."

"Excellent." Jake nodded with satisfaction. "Interested in working for me? I can give you access to technologies that money can't buy for your research."

"Think about how limiting this virus is. Why don't we research something more meaningful? Superpower serums, or perhaps a longevity formula? Which one interests you more?"

Dr. Simms's eyes suddenly lit up from their dazed state—he felt both were incredibly valuable prospects.

"But, my virus..." He seemed afraid to speak loudly in front of someone as intimidating as Jake.

However, Jake understood the man's meaning perfectly. To abandon a deadly virus, developed over so much time and effort, without even field-testing it would surely break his heart.

"We'll deploy this virus elsewhere—it's a perfect creation," Jake patted the scientist's shoulder, indicating there was no need to worry. "Grab the virus's original stock and all the data, and come with me."

In the end, to everyone's amazement, Jake single-handedly defeated two opponents and even walked away with a mad scientist.

In Jimmy's eyes, even if Jake had kidnapped Del Blaine, he could understand the motivation, but this time, it seemed his target was only that mad scientist.

Only Banning understood Dr. Simms's true value, but without the tuxedo, he was even less capable of resisting.

Looking at the water strider eggs that had reached 90% incubation, Banning smiled. Even without the tuxedo and Dr. Simms, he was still going to succeed!

Suddenly, a figure rushed toward the control panel—it was Jimmy!

He was the first to react. Even without the tuxedo, saving humanity was something he couldn't afford to ignore. However, the water striders were incubating too quickly, and the process was almost complete.

Just as the progress was about to reach 100%, a black vintage car suddenly burst through, its front-mounted flamethrowers spewing fire. The flames were intense, instantly incinerating all the water strider eggs!

"NO!!" Banning roared, his face contorted with rage at the sight.

Several hatched water striders flapped their wings briefly before being reduced to charred remains in the flames.

The flames quickly dissipated, but the black car had vanished.

The water strider threat was eliminated, and Jake was gone too. Enraged, Banning glared at Jimmy with intense hatred and lunged at him without a word.

The two wrestled on the ground, their movements devoid of the previous elegance and style, now resembling a street brawl, even resorting to hair-pulling and scratching.

A CSA tactical team swiftly stormed the underground laboratory. What awaited them was uncertain, but a complete circus was definitely on the horizon.

Meanwhile, in the Princess Diaries world, at a San Francisco estate,

A black vintage car suddenly materialized. A man in a lab coat stumbled out, only to collapse to the ground after a few steps, vomiting profusely, dry-heaving violently. Clearly, this was Dr. Simms's first time traveling through dimensions, and he wasn't quite adjusted to it.

"Let's begin," Jake and Cobb said, exiting the car. Looking at the mad doctor sprawled on the ground, retching violently, they exchanged a glance and nodded.

Cobb opened his briefcase. Simms, currently in a state of extreme disorientation and nausea, would be difficult to put under with standard hypnosis—sedatives would be more effective.

In this open courtyard, three people had thin IV tubes inserted into their arms, and red sedative solution flowed into their bodies.

Soon, they entered the dream world.
