Chapter 49: Unlocking Movie File No. 3

Thump!

In the real world, a heavy thud suddenly echoed from the living room sofa of a nearly deserted mansion on the outskirts of town.

A figure flashed through the air and appeared.

The figure fell and landed on the sofa; the thud was from him.

This person was Jake, who had just returned to reality from the Hunger Games.

He struggled to his feet.

The wounds on his back and arms hadn't healed, and there was a long scar on his cheek, especially on his left arm where the tracking device had been injected. Jake had cut open the wound himself and removed the device.

The price of his tough-guy act was a body full of wounds, aches, and weakness.

He forced himself to walk into the bedroom. Because no one had cleaned for a long time, the entire mansion was covered in dust.

There were ice packs in the freezer, and a first-aid kit in the bedroom, which had been included when the mansion was purchased. It contained gauze and antibiotics.

Reading the simple medical instructions, and taking off his tattered clothes, Jake began to apply medicine to his battered body.

His body had begun to take on the shape of a well-built athlete, but he bore more knife and gunshot wounds than muscle.

The new wounds were from the Hunger Games; he'd thought it was just a game, but it had nearly cost him his life.

The old wounds came from a variety of sources, the most numerous being from the world of Léon: The Professional, where he'd killed for the first time—a corrupt DEA agent, in a gunfight.

He bandaged the wounds on his arms and shoulders, applied a medicated patch to his left cheek, and after a quick clean-up, his clothes barely betrayed any damage.

"It's time to go see that little girl," he thought of Mathilda. They'd promised to go back to her, and naturally, he would. But so much time had passed; had the old hitman Léon and Mathilda sparked anything?

He hadn't entirely ruled out this possibility when he sent Mathilda with him.

Although Natalie Portman, who played Mathilda, was beautiful and stunning as an adult, that was still an adult. What good would bringing back a 12-year-old girl do?

To reach Mia and Katniss's level, it would take at least four years of growth. In four years, who knows, he might have already reached Thor's world and brought Jane Foster back as his girlfriend?

Not only for Mathilda, but he also wanted to go back and see Leon, that quiet man. He was actually quite good to him. If possible, Jake wanted him to stop being a hitman and settle down and start a family.

After reminiscing and deciding on his next destination, Jake didn't plan to travel through dimensions immediately; he needed to rest.

When he opened his phone, he discovered that new movie worlds had unlocked.

Kick-Ass series, The Green Hornet, 300...

"Suddenly, superhero movies are appearing!" Lying in bed watching the newly released films, Jake was pleasantly surprised to find that this type of film might be the real beginning.

"Wanted, action-packed thriller, gun-kata!" His eyes gleamed. If he could learn such advanced techniques, one person, two guns, could easily handle dozens of people!

"Edge of Tomorrow, Elysium?" Was this the start of a sci-fi era?

But thinking of the advanced technology in Elysium, where medical pods could cure any disease, this world wasn't entirely without its merits.

And then there's that high-tech exosuit that turns people into super-soldiers; if he could steal one, he could face most dangers before encountering the Hulk, Iron Man, and the like.

Just as Jake was about to fall asleep with these pleasant thoughts, a phone call came in.

It was Emily.

"Hello?" Jake answered the phone; he knew Emily wouldn't call him casually unless something was wrong.

"Jake..." The moment the call connected, a trembling voice came through.

"What's wrong?" He sat up in bed, holding the phone to his ear seriously. "Did someone bother you? Or did something happen at the store? Tell me slowly, don't rush."

"My, my roommate died!" Her voice trembled, as if the horrific scene was still unfolding before her eyes.

"What?" Jake didn't feel fear. Perhaps it was because he had killed so many people, but this was the first time someone close to him had died.

Real society isn't a movie; the sudden death of a college student is indeed bizarre.

"She's my best friend, we're the closest of friends." Perhaps because she got through to Jake, she felt much more at ease, and her speech became smoother, though her voice still betrayed her grief.

"How did she die?" Jake tried to soften his voice.

Emily sobbed, "Murder! She was murdered!"

"Murder? Has the killer been caught?"

"No." Her voice suddenly became muffled, probably because Emily was shaking her head while holding the phone. Then her voice was filled with fear, "Because she was murdered in front of all five of us girls in our dorm..."

"Huh?" This confused Jake even more. If she was murdered in front of all the girls in the dorm, why couldn't they catch the killer?

"Didn't you remember the killer's face?"

"No," Emily's answer was still trembling, "We... we didn't see the killer at all."

"What?!" Jake couldn't help but furrow his brow. What was going on? The killer murdered someone right in front of them, and none of the five of them saw the killer?

In her terror, Emily was clearly unable to answer Jake's questions properly.

"The police have come to take statements again. They've come three times since yesterday. They keep making us give statements." She was clearly stressed by the police presence, which was understandable. "The questions are always the same. My roommates and I are so scared, but they won't let us leave."

"Hannah's parents have also come. They cry outside every day." Hannah must be the name of the deceased girl.

Jake listened carefully and could indeed faintly hear a woman crying on the other end of the phone. Her voice sounded hoarse.

"They're holding a vigil here." Emily could barely contain her fear. "They've set up a memorial at the school. I... I saw her mother crying so hard, so I went to comfort her... and I got yelled at... Hannah was the only daughter in her family."

"I'm really too scared, that's why I called you." Her voice was weak, like a child who had made a mistake. After all, not everyone wants to get involved in trouble.

"Sigh~" Jake sighed and said, "Are you in the dorm now?"

"Yeah," Emily's voice was very soft, but the crying on the other end was very loud.

That's right, the police have been coming one after another to investigate, the parents are holding vigil outside, holding the portrait of the deceased and crying, and these girls are not allowed to leave. They have to stay in the dorm where someone died. Let alone girls, even a group of young guys would not be able to handle this situation.

"Come to the school gate, I'm coming right now." He wasn't particularly close to Emily, but since she was his employee, he couldn't just stand by and do nothing.

"Okay, then hurry up..." Her voice was somewhat pitiful.

Jake put on his clothes, perfectly concealing his wounds, and walked towards the door.

He hailed an Uber, checked the day's news, and sure enough, the death of a female college student was making headlines.
