Chapter 74 - Chapter 74

A full week had passed since Naruto officially began his Senjutsu training, and the grueling reality of his situation had firmly set in. From the moment the sun rose over the towering mushrooms to the dead of night, he meditated. He could feel his capacity for Nature Chakra expanding, his reserves growing deeper by the day. But it simply wasn't fast enough.

His own baseline chakra capacity—combined with Kurama's dense, ocean-like presence—was just too impossibly massive. Drawing in enough natural energy to balance it perfectly in thirds was like trying to fill a canyon with a garden hose. He was at his wit's end.

Standing at the edge of the sacred toad oil pool, Naruto stared blankly into the viscous liquid, his chest heaving with exhaustion.

Beside him, Lord Fukasaku leaned on his staff, his tone gentle but firm. "Naruto-boy, you must not give up hope. You are on the right path. It is a slow, methodical process. You just need to keep trying, keep stretching your coils—"

"I don't have time to be slow," Naruto muttered, his eyes narrowing in sheer desperation.

Whoosh!

Using the Shunshin (Body Flicker), Naruto vanished from the spot, kicking up a small cloud of dust. Before Fukasaku could even blink, Naruto reappeared right at the edge of the pool, gripping a large wooden bucket in both hands.

"Naruto-boy, what in the world are you trying to do?!" Fukasaku yelled, his large eyes widening in alarm.

"If I can't take in enough Nature Chakra slowly..." Naruto gritted his teeth, plunging the bucket deep into the pool and hauling it up, brimming to the top with concentrated, raw toad oil. "...then I know exactly what to do!"

Without another word, Naruto inverted the bucket and dumped the entire contents directly over his head.

"NO!" Fukasaku shrieked.

The reaction was violently instantaneous. A catastrophic amount of natural energy slammed into Naruto's system all at once. His skin bubbled horrifically. Within milliseconds, his skin took on a sickly green, warty texture. His eyes bulged, and the webbing started forcefully tearing out from between his fingers. He was turning into a stone toad at an apocalyptic speed.

But Naruto refused to die. Throwing his head back, he unleashed a deafening, guttural roar.

'KURAMA!'

BOOM!

A massive, violent geyser of thick, boiling red chakra erupted from Naruto's core. He forced the Kyūbi's chakra cloak to manifest over his entire body, fighting the invading natural energy with sheer, demonic brute force.

Inside the mindscape, total chaos reigned.

"ARE YOU FUCKING DUMB, BRAT?!" Kurama roared at the top of his lungs, slamming his massive paws against the iron bars of the seal.

Outside, the visual was terrifying. A blazing, concentrated blue aura of pure Nature Chakra was frantically trying to consume Naruto, while a ferocious, boiling red cloak of Kyūbi chakra violently restricted it. It was a literal war of attrition happening inside his cellular structure.

Through their link, Kurama cursed viciously, but he immediately started doing the heavy lifting. The Great Fox ruthlessly pulled the overflowing Nature Chakra inward, forcibly crushing it down, filtering it through his own demonic coils, and forcefully repairing Naruto's mutating blood cells. Kurama acted as a brutal, fiery purifier, burning away the physical impurities the oil was causing before the petrification could set in.

"DON'T YOU DARE DIE ON ME! JUST HOLD IT!" Kurama bellowed, pouring out Yang chakra to stabilize the boy's collapsing network.

Lord Fukasaku was completely paralyzed. He stood rooted to the stone, too utterly shocked by the terrifying, awe-inspiring clash of ancient energies to even move. The heat radiating off Naruto was enough to scorch the surrounding rocks.

For three agonizing minutes, the red and blue chakras warred, hissed, and violently violently compressed.

Then, all at once, it stopped.

The red cloak snapped back into the seal. The blue aura vanished. Naruto's eyes rolled into the back of his head, and he dropped dead-weight onto the hard stone floor, completely unconscious.

"Naruto!" Fukasaku gasped, finally breaking from his stupor. He rushed forward, dropping his staff and frantically checking the boy's pulse. He ran his webbed hands over Naruto's face, his arms, his torso.

The elder toad let out a massive, trembling sigh of absolute relief. There wasn't a single wart. No webbing. No stone. His body was entirely, perfectly human.

"You absolute, reckless fool," Fukasaku breathed, quickly hauling the unconscious teenager onto his back.

A short time later, Naruto was resting on a thick blanket inside the elders' house.

Ma Toad hurried into the room, wiping her hands on her apron. "What in the world happened to him, Pa?!"

Outside the window, the ground shook as the heavy-hitters of Mt. Myōboku arrived. Gamabunta, Gamakichi, Gamatatsu, Gamahiro, and Gamashiro crowded around the small house, peering in through the windows.

"Yeah, Pa, what happened?" Gamabunta's deep, rumbling voice vibrated through the floorboards. "I felt the brat's Kyūbi chakra go completely berserk all the way from the Yakuza dens."

Fukasaku rubbed his temples, still vibrating with residual adrenaline. "This foolish, utterly dumb brat took a solid bucket of raw toad oil and poured the entire thing over himself. He tried to force the Senjutsu accumulation."

A collective gasp echoed from the toads outside.

"Is the brat okay?!" Gamabunta demanded, leaning down closer to the window, his pipe nearly falling from his mouth.

"He's okay," Fukasaku assured them, shaking his head in disbelief. "And quite luckily, he doesn't have any toad parts on him. I checked his whole body. He is fully, normally human. The Fox must have protected his cellular structure. But he is entirely drained."

While the toads fretted over his physical body, inside the seal, Naruto was getting chewed out in a way he had never experienced before.

The mindscape had warped into a comical, completely undignified state. Kurama—despite being a towering engine of mass destruction—had contorted his massive body in sheer, unadulterated frustration. He was currently holding a chibi-sized, utterly battered Naruto by the scruff of his shirt, aggressively pulling his hair and stretching his cheeks.

"ARE YOU SUICIDAL, YOU BRAT?! OR JUST PLAIN STUPID?!" Kurama screamed, his own features shifting into a comical, exaggeratedly large chibi-fox head as he raged. "We were making progress! Sure, it was slow, but we could have done it without you deciding to deep-fry yourself in swamp oil! Why would you do that?!"

Naruto groaned, swatting the fox's giant paws away as he dropped back to the floor of the sewer, rubbing his sore scalp.

"Because it was getting too slow, Kurama!" Naruto yelled back, his own frustration boiling over. "You already know what the plan is! We sent shadow clones out across the continent! If one of those clones runs into the Akatsuki, they need Nature Chakra to survive!"

Naruto clenched his fists, looking up at the furious Bijū. "I already have a clone back in the Senju compound library secretly studying the Hiraishin. I'm sure I can complete the formula soon, but I cannot take any more risks! Sage Mode is my biggest, most absolute weapon. If I have to fight Nagato's Rinnegan, or Obito's Kamui... I can't touch them without Sage Mode! You know it, and I know it! I don't have months to sit on a mountain!"

Kurama paused, his exaggerated rage fading into a deadly, serious glare. He dropped to his belly, bringing his massive red eyes level with Naruto.

"If you are in that much of a hurry," Kurama rumbled softly, "then just rip off the damn seal. We can call your father's chakra imprint out, and he can fix the key for you. I can help you balance this."

Naruto flinched violently. He looked away, staring down at his feet. "And what am I supposed to explain to the toads? Huh?"

"The toads are your companions, Naruto. They serve you," Kurama countered easily. "Just ask the geriatric frogs for the seal key. Minato left it with Gerotora. If they don't give it to you, then we rip the seal off."

Naruto stayed silent, his hands trembling slightly.

Kurama let out a heavy sigh, the kind of sigh a deeply exhausted parent gives a stubborn child. He reached out with one massive claw and gently flicked Naruto in the forehead.

"I know what's really eating at you," Kurama said, dropping his gruff persona for a moment of absolute, piercing clarity. "I know you have this deep, rotting guilt inside your heart. You think that because of your past life, because you reincarnated into this vessel, you 'stole' Minato and Kushina's son's body. You think you aren't truly their son, and you're terrified of facing him."

Naruto's breath hitched. That was the core of it. The ultimate Isekai dread that had been haunting him since the day he woke up in this world.

"But I am going to tell you this once, and you had better listen to me," Kurama demanded, his voice echoing with absolute authority. "He is going to accept you. You are not some parasite, Naruto. You are just Naruto, but with extra memories and a much stronger willpower. You are the same boy. Act like it."

Kurama leaned in closer. "Your soul did not crush the original Naruto's soul. It merged with him. You said it yourself when you first accepted this life. So stop being so damn scared of what is coming. Meeting your father is going to happen whether you like it or not, and you need to accept the reality of this situation."

Kurama let out a sharp, final huff. "And honestly, if you are going to be this intensely suicidal... just go and face Minato. Getting yelled at by a dead Hokage is still infinitely better than turning into a fucking stone toad."

Inside the dimly lit bedroom of the elders' house, Naruto lay motionless beneath a heavy woolen blanket, deep in unconscious recovery.

Lord Fukasaku and Lady Shima stood quietly by the bedside, their webbed hands resting on the edge of the cot as they monitored the boy's vitals.

"Is he going to be okay, Pa?" Shima whispered, her maternal brow furrowed with deep, lingering concern.

Fukasaku offered a soft, reassuring sigh, though his old eyes still held a trace of lingering disbelief. "He's fine now, Ma. But his stubbornness... this boy's willpower simply defies reason. Even after knowing the absolute lethality of the risk, he threw himself into it headfirst. And somehow, he forced a reward out of it."

The elder toad crossed his arms, staring thoughtfully down at the sleeping teenager. "Honestly, I don't know if surviving this trial will make him more reckless, or if it will finally knock some sense into him. But by bathing his entire system in that concentrated toad oil and forcing his cells to survive the influx, he's inadvertently forged a pseudo-Sage body."

Shima gently placed her hand on Naruto's head, her expression softening into one of profound affection. "Stubborn or not, this boy is truly amazing. So innocent in his own strange way... But you are definitely going to give him a proper, thorough lecture the moment he wakes up."

"Oh, you can bet on that," Fukasaku grumbled quietly.

With the crisis averted, the two elder toads quietly slipped out of the room, leaving Naruto to finish healing in peace.

The Next Morning

The golden morning sun crested the jagged peaks of Mount Myōboku, spilling bright shafts of light through the paper shoji windows.

Naruto stirred, groggily blinking his eyes open as a warm ray hit his forehead. Throwing the heavy blanket off his chest, he sat up and pushed himself to his feet. He instinctively arched his back, throwing his arms up for a morning stretch—and immediately froze.

The sluggish ache in his joints was entirely gone. Instead, his muscles felt preternaturally dense, his frame buzzing with a clean, humming power that felt miles heavier and sharper than it had yesterday.

Flexing his hands, Naruto stared down at his palms, opening and closing his fists as silent kinetic snaps echoed in the quiet room.

'Kurama,' Naruto muttered mentally, his eyes widening in shock. 'Is it just me, or did my body just level up out of nowhere? I can feel my chakra reserves surging again, but the Nature Chakra isn't fighting me anymore. It's just... sitting there in my coils.'

Kurama's voice echoed in his mind, carrying a rare tone of genuine, grudging respect.

"It's not just you, brat. What we pulled off yesterday was a forced, violent nature evolution of your cellular structure. And by some absolute miracle, it worked."

Kurama gave a low, rumbling huff inside the seal. "If I had to categorize it, you've essentially forged a pseudo-Sage body. Similar to the physiological baseline of the Sage of Six Paths or Ashura Uzumaki. Your baseline physical strength, durability, and chakra pathways have multiplied. I'd wager you could go toe-to-toe with Tsunade in a raw physical contest now without even needing your chakra enhancement techniques."

Naruto grinned, a sharp thrill shooting through his chest. 'Hell yeah! We need to test this out right now. Nothing beats a morning workout—'

CRA-A-CK!

The bedroom door slid open. Naruto was still in the middle of talking to Kurama when he heard the sharp sound of pottery shattering.

He looked up to see Lady Shima standing in the doorway, a breakfast tray slipping from her grip and fracturing against the stone floor. For a second, she just stared at him with wide, saucer-like eyes.

"Naruto-boy... you're finally awake?!"

Before Naruto could even process a greeting, Shima moved with terrifying, elderly speed. She closed the distance in a blur, grabbing his arms, twisting his legs, and aggressively lifting his limbs to inspect every inch of him. She even pried his eyelids open with her thumbs, squinting into his golden-flecked eyes.

"Phew... no warts. No stone scaling. You're actually alright," Shima breathed out.

Then, her expression snapped from motherly relief into terrifying maternal fury. She balled up a webbed fist and drove it straight into the back of Naruto's head with a resounding THWACK!

"WHAT ON EARTH WERE YOU THINKING, YOU RECKLESS IDIOT?!" Shima shrieked, grabbing his ear and twisting it hard. "Do you have any idea what would have happened if the Fox hadn't bailed you out?! You could have been a lawn ornament for the rest of eternity! Pouring a whole bucket of raw toad oil on yourself?! Have you lost your tiny mind?!"

As Shima continued her blistering, multi-minute lecture, Fukasaku ambled into the room with a dry, knowing smirk, watching his wife tear into the teenager.

Half an hour later, after Naruto had survived Shima's wrath and sat down to a quiet breakfast of normal human rations, he decided it was time to drop the real bomb.

He chewed slowly on a piece of dried rice cake, watching Lord Fukasaku across the low wooden table.

"Lord Fukasaku?" Naruto asked, deliberately using his most polite, formal tone.

The elder toad looked up from his tea, his small eyes narrowing slightly at the uncharacteristic politeness. "Yes? What is it, Naruto-boy?"

Naruto swallowed, lifting a finger in a casual gesture. "I need the Kyūbi seal key."

The entire room went dead silent.

Shima instantly dropped her tea cup, her eyes bulging. Fukasaku froze, his teacup hovering an inch from his beak. For a long, tense moment, the two ancient toads exchanged a sharp look before forcing their expressions back into neutral masks.

"And... why on earth would you need the key to your sealing formula, Naruto?" Fukasaku asked carefully, his voice dropping its grandfatherly warmth for the serious tone of a mountain elder.

Naruto didn't flinch. He had rehearsed this story.

"During that stupid stunt yesterday, when my consciousness was dragged down into the seal while Kyūbi and I were sorting out the chaos... I heard two other voices," Naruto said, his voice dropping into a somber, perfectly convincing cadence. "They were frantic, worried about me, and even yelling at the Fox. When I managed to push deeper into the seal, I confronted them."

Naruto looked straight into Fukasaku's eyes. "It was chakra left behind by my parents. They set it up as a fail-safe inside the seal—a lingering echo to help me if my chakra went wild, or if the seal was ever compromised. I need the key so I can unlock that layer of the seal and actually talk to them face-to-face."

It was a brilliant lie built entirely on a kernel of truth. He did need to face his parents eventually, and the seal did hold their imprints via the Eight-Trigrams framework.

Fukasaku stared at him for a long, agonizing minute, weighing the sheer weight of the claim.

Finally, the elder toad closed his eyes and let out a slow breath. "Naruto-boy... that is a heavy thing to ask. Let me consult with the others and think on it. I will give you my final answer this evening. Until then, you rest. No training for you today."

Naruto bristled instantly, throwing his hands up. "What?! No training?! But I feel great! My body is totally fine, I can feel my new strength—"

SLAM!

Shima slammed her hand flat against the table, rattling the dishes. "You are resting! Be endlessly grateful we aren't grounding you from the mountain entirely after the stunt you pulled yesterday. Sit down, shut up, and digest your food!"

Naruto pouted dramatically, crossing his arms and sinking back into his seat. "Fine, fine... I'm going back to my room to 'rest'," he grumbled, pushing himself up and heading down the hall.

As the door clicked shut behind him, Shima turned anxiously to her husband.

"Well, Pa?" she whispered urgently, her webbed hands wringing together. "What should we do? Should we give him the key? The boy's reasoning... it makes sense, but the implications of opening that seal are massive."

Fukasaku stroked his white beard, his gaze fixed on the closed door. "I know, Ma. But I think I need to consult the Great Elder Sage about this before we make any decisions."
