Chapter 96 - Chapter 95

Karin stepped across the thresholds of ancient, shattered stone, her red hair catching the dimming crimson rays of the setting sun. Behind her, Naruto walked with a measured, silent stride, his hands resting deep within the pockets of his dark trousers.

For miles in every direction, the skeletal remnants of Uzushiogakure lay sprawled along the jagged, wind-carved cliffs of the Land of Whirlpools. It was a graveyard of legends. The air here was dense with the sharp, metallic tang of the nearby ocean, mixed with the damp scent of salt spray, wild sage, and ancient, scorched granite.

The gale-force winds swept off the churning sea, howling through the hollow, empty archways of ruined pagodas like a spectral mourning song. Below the cliffs, the violent, dark-indigo waves crashed against the jagged rocks with a rhythmic, thunderous boom, throwing plumes of white sea foam high into the cold air.

Over the past several weeks, Naruto and Karin had methodically searched every inch of the ruined village. Almost all the primary vaults, public archives, and clan armories had been brutally broken open, plundered, or reduced to cinder decades ago during the joint invasion by the allied nations who feared the Uzumaki bloodline.

What remained was solemn. Naruto had cleared the overgrown weeds around the central grounds to build a massive, respectful stone monument for his fallen clan members. As for the skeletal remains of the invading shinobi from the Hidden Mist, Cloud, and Stone that had littered the ruins? Naruto had shown no mercy even to their memory. He had channeled a concentrated torrent of superheated Fire-Style chakra, burning their bones to absolute ash until not a single speck of dead matter remained.

He still carried a deep, quiet fury over the historical slaughter of his mother's people, but he knew the harsh reality of the shinobi world: history was etched in blood, and the past could not be rewritten. Only the future could be forged.

Now, their footsteps brought them to the far eastern edge of the village grounds, where the land ended abruptly at the precipice of a vast, misty inland crater lake.

The lake was surrounded by steep, moss-covered basalt walls. Its waters were an unreadable, pitch-black shade of deep azure, completely still on the surface despite the howling winds above, as if some unseen, ancient pressure was weighing down upon the depths.

Naruto paused at the rocky shore, leaning forward slightly as his ocean-blue eyes pierced the dark water. "This is the very last location on the entire island that we haven't thoroughly searched, Karin."

Karin stepped beside him, adjusting her glasses as her sensory network expanded across the surrounding geography. She let out a soft sigh, her voice carrying over the sound of the wind. "It's true. We even combed through the highest peaks of the northern mountain range. There was nothing up there except for that abandoned, weather-worn shrine on the summit, but no hidden chambers or storage seals."

"Well," Naruto said smoothly, unzipping his high-collared white and orange jacket. "Here goes nothing."

He tossed his jacket onto a dry rock. He was left in his dark, form-fitting sleeveless shirt and heavy combat trousers, revealing the dense, incredibly defined muscular structure he had developed from his intensive Sage Mode conditioning.

Without a moment of hesitation, Naruto dove cleanly off the ledge into the frigid, dark waters of the lake.

SPLASH!

The freezing water wrapped around him instantly. Naruto kicked his legs with powerful, rhythmic strokes, plunging deeper and deeper into the lightless abyss. At first, he assumed the lake was merely a standard volcanic basin, perhaps fifty or sixty feet deep. But as he descended past the hundred-foot mark, the light from the sun vanished completely, replaced by an absolute, suffocating darkness.

The pressure began to build violently against his eardrums. After three full minutes of swimming downward into the abyssal chill, his lungs began to burn for oxygen. Recognizing that the bed was far deeper than any natural body of water, Naruto pivoted and kicked forcefully toward the surface.

BURST!

Naruto broke through the water's surface, gasping a deep breath of crisp mountain air as he slicked back his wet golden hair. He treaded water near the rocky bank where Karin stood waiting, her arms crossed over her chest.

"Did you spot anything down there?" Karin called out, looking down at him.

"Technically, no," Naruto replied, shaking the water from his eyes. "It's pitch black. But this lake isn't normal—it goes down into an incredibly deep subterranean trench. An Uzumaki sealing clan wouldn't build an artificial lake this ridiculously deep right next to their main stronghold unless they were hiding something massive at the bottom."

Karin raised an eyebrow, a slight smirk touching her lips. "Well? What are you waiting for, then? Go back down there and find it!"

"Yeah, yeah, hold your horses," Naruto chuckled.

He took a slow, deep breath, closing his eyes for a fraction of a second.

VWOMP!

In an instant, the ambient natural energy floating over the lake converged into his body. The iconic, vibrant orange pigmentation flared around his eyes as his pupils transformed into the sharp, horizontal bars of a Perfect Sage.

Taking a massive breath that expanded his lungs to their absolute capacity, Naruto turned and dove straight back down into the black water.

This time, he didn't rely on mere physical kicking. Reaching his right hand behind him, Naruto manifested a high-density, rapidly spinning Rasenshuriken-type kinetic vortex in his palm, using the compressed wind pressure as an underwater jet propulsion system. He shot through the water like a golden torpedo, cutting through two hundred, three hundred, five hundred feet of crushing aquatic pressure in seconds.

At the eight-hundred-foot mark, he reached the absolute floor of the abyssal lake. The pressure down here was immense—enough to instantly crush a normal human's chest—but Naruto's Sage-conditioned body absorbed the weight effortlessly.

Because the sunlight couldn't reach this depth, the environment was completely black. Naruto flared a small fraction of Kurama's golden chakra into his left hand. A brilliant, sun-like orb of golden energy illuminated the lake floor, casting long shadows across the ancient silt.

Scanning the jagged basalt walls with his heightened Sage perception, Naruto spotted a massive, artificial archway carved directly into the underwater cliff face—a hidden cavern mouth completely obscured by centuries of thick sea kelp.

Naruto swam forward, pushing through the heavy kelp fronds, and entered the subterranean tunnel.

As he swam thirty yards deeper into the mountain's interior, he suddenly broke through a shimmering, translucent barrier of golden chakra that spanned the entire width of the tunnel.

SPLASH!

Naruto tumbled out of the water, landing squarely on his feet atop a dry, smooth stone floor.

He blinked, looking around in genuine astonishment. He was standing inside a dry, vast subterranean cavern. The air was crisp, completely devoid of moisture, and filled with a remarkably high concentration of fresh oxygen and pure, unrefined natural energy.

Naruto took a deep breath, feeling his lungs fill effortlessly. An ancient, self-sustaining atmospheric barrier seal, he realized, analyzing the golden runes glowing faintly along the cavern walls. It's drawing in natural energy from the surface, converting it into fresh oxygen, and repelling the millions of gallons of lake water above. Brilliant.

Knowing that Karin was still waiting on the surface, Naruto reached into his pouch, pulled out a black-hilted kunai marked with his personal Flying Raijin spatial formula, and drove the blade firmly into the stone floor near the water's edge.

FLASH!

In a single, golden streak of light, Naruto materialized instantly back on the rocky shore of the lake, right beside Karin.

Karin jumped slightly, startled by his sudden return. "Gah! Give a girl a warning next time!" She looked at him closely, noticing he was completely dry from his shoulders up. "Well? Did you find it?"

"I found it," Naruto grinned, a confident spark in his eyes. "Eight hundred feet down, inside a sealed subterranean cave system. It's an atmospheric vault, completely dry and flooded with oxygen. I'm a hundred percent sure this is the primary ancestral vault where the Uzumaki clan stored their absolute highest-priority assets."

Karin's crimson eyes lit up with intense, uninhibited curiosity. "Well then, what are we waiting for?! Take me down there!"

Naruto wove a quick, single-handed hand seal. A sudden surge of Wind-Style chakra swept over his body, instantly evaporating the lake water from his trousers and hair, leaving him bone-dry. He picked up his white jacket, slung it over his shoulder, and held out his hand.

Karin stepped in close, wrapping her arms securely around his waist and leaning against his chest.

FLASH!

The world shifted in a fraction of a microsecond. The cold mountain wind and the sound of crashing waves vanished, replaced by the quiet, sterile echo of the subterranean cavern eight hundred feet below the lake.

Karin opened her eyes, gasping softly as she looked at the glowing golden barrier holding back the wall of black lake water behind them. "Incredible... the chakra stability on this atmospheric barrier is centuries old, yet it hasn't degraded by a single percent."

"This way," Naruto said, leading the way down the wide, stone-paved tunnel.

They walked deep into the heart of the mountain for nearly two hundred yards until the narrow tunnel suddenly opened up into a massive, circular chamber.

The floor was made of polished white marble, etched from edge to edge with the most complex, interlocking array of Uzumaki sealing formulas Naruto had ever laid eyes upon. At the exact center of the chamber sat a raised, altar-like stone pedestal containing a single, small keyhole-like slot carved into the granite.

Karin walked over to the edge of the array, kneeling down to trace her fingers over the glowing blue runes. "This is an ancient Dimensional Pocket Seal. Whatever is stored here isn't physically inside this mountain—it's sealed away inside an isolated, folded subspace dimension!"

Naruto stepped up to the central pedestal. He reached into his pouch and pulled out a small, velvet-wrapped object—the broken, cracked hilt of the Ninth Cutter, the ancestral katana forged by Mito Uzumaki.

"The Ninth Cutter isn't just a weapon," Naruto realized, his Sage senses picking up the unique chakra resonance between the cracked blade and the central pedestal. "It's the physical key to the primary vault."

Without hesitation, Naruto reversed his grip on the broken katana and inserted the cracked blade straight into the central slot of the pedestal, pushing it down until the guard clicked against the granite.

THWACK!

VWOMP!

The entire subterranean chamber detonated with brilliant, blinding golden light.

The complex sealing arrays etched into the marble floor began to rotate in concentric circles, humming with immense, ancient authority. The spatial fabric around Naruto and Karin warped violently, shifting the gravity beneath their feet as the light expanded to swallow their vision entirely.

When the blinding radiance finally faded, Naruto and Karin opened their eyes—and froze in absolute, breathtaking awe.

They were no longer inside the stone cavern. They were standing within a colossal, infinite pocket dimension.

The space was a gargantuan, circular sanctuary bathed in a soft, ethereal golden light that seemed to emanate from the very air itself. Soaring above them for hundreds of feet were towering, circular wooden bookshelves that curved endlessly toward a vaulted ceiling lost in golden mist.

Millions upon millions of ancient leather-bound books, pristine silk scrolls, secret bloodline records, and ancestral sealing jutsu scrolls were neatly arranged along the towering shelves as far as the eye could see—a complete, unarchived treasury of the entire history, knowledge, and culture of the Uzumaki clan.

Further back in the chamber, displayed along grand velvet racks and glass pedestals, was a military treasury that defied imagination.

Thousands of custom, high-grade chakra-metal weapons were lined up in pristine rows: glowing spears, heavy halberds, dragon-embossed armor sets, golden-hilted ceremonial daggers, complex puppet frameworks, and specialized sealing tools forged from metals long thought extinct in the modern era. Beyond the armory sat towering chests filled with ancient gold coins, precious gems, and high-value barter assets—a fortune capable of funding an entire hidden village for a century.

Naruto and Karin stood side by side in the center of the vast, quiet sanctuary, their eyes wide as they took in the monumental sight.

"So..." Naruto whispered, his voice echoing softly through the infinite library, a slow, marveling smile spreading across his face. "This is how true Sealing Masters hide their treasures. They fold space itself where no enemy can ever reach them."

Karin took a trembling step forward, her hands shaking with profound emotion as she looked up at the endless walls of knowledge. "It's all here..." she whispered, tears of awe welling at the corners of her eyes. "Our entire history... our legacy... it was never destroyed. It was just waiting for us to come home."
