Chapter 34 - Ch. 34: More Naming

After Ranga's naming, I realized that I was gonna have to wait a day or more either way, between each last-naming of my top advisors, so we moved back to Tempest while the Riders dispersed the rest of the orcs.

I also accidentally named the lizardman Chief 'Abil' before I set off, because he didn't like me calling him 'Chief.' He evolved into a dragonewt.

So, over the next two weeks or so, I named my cabinet one or two at a time.

First, I decided to give the Goblin Lords their last names. Since there were four of them, I ended up just naming them after the four cardinal directions at random. They all grew slightly past the A-rank, but I'd not expected much from it.

Next, Rigurd and Rigur. Since the Goblin Lords didn't take too much power, I did them at the same time before calling it a day. Their last name ended up becoming Emerald, for the green. Maybe not too creative, but who cares. They both got a pretty good jump in power from that, which says a lot, since they were already at least A-ranked.

After the goblins were finished, it was time for the kijin. I was trying to go in chronological order, after all. Each of the kijin took enough of my magicules that I needed to wait for it to recharge, meaning that it took a full two days per kijin, even with Shuna and Kurobe, who didn't have nearly as much raw power as the others.

Shuna and Benimaru got the last name Ruby, because of their hair. Both of them also got a massive increase in their raw power. In fact, in terms of raw power, I'd say that Benimaru was about half as strong as I was, at this point, making him almost as strong as I'd been before absorbing the Demon Lord, Geld. As for Shuna, while she was still the second-weakest of the kijin, her raw power wasn't that far from Hakuro's, now.

Well, until Hakuro got his own last name, but I chose Soei next, since he was actually a pretty busy guy, who could use the extra power.

I decided to go with the whole gem thing for the rest of the kijin, too. It was only fair. So, Soei got Sapphire.

And the Unique Skill: Shadow Ninja. While his magicules didn't increase by too much, all of the skills that he liked to use, like Shadow Motion, Sticky Steel Thread, Thought Communication, and Replication got consolidated into the new skill, making them stronger and easier to control than ever. Now, he could send out a total of nine Replications and control them like extensions of his own limbs. He seemed totally satisfied with the improvement.

Shion got the last name Amethyst, giving her a normal power boost, as expected.

Hakuro got the name Opal, which not only gave him the Extra Skill: Universal Detection, but also seemed to regress his age another hundred years or so. Now, his hair was definitely something closer to gray than the shocking white it'd been before. It was cool to see this super old dude slowly de-age as he got stronger from being my subordinate.

And finally, Kurobe got the last name Garnet. I don't really know why, but I couldn't really think of another gemstone that suited him as well. Apparently, his Researcher skill gained the Test Sub-Skill, and his Spatial Storage got bigger, so he could make better weapons faster as a result, though, so it was all good. Even if his magicule capacity didn't seem to grow all that much from the deal.

And that meant that the last two of my cabinet that didn't have last names were Gobta and Geld.

But of the two, the only one I'd be giving a last name would be Geld.

Apparently, Risa had already given Raya the last name 'White' some time after the battle, giving Raya a pretty good boost in power, though she still wasn't quite as strong as Ranga now was.

And as for Gobta, I'd genuinely thought about it, but I didn't like the idea of spoiling him. After all, he had that crazy computerized sword and an over-A companion-wolf already. Once he mastered those, I'd think about giving him a last name.

But Geld was a really hard-working, sincere dude. In the two weeks since he'd come to Tempest, he'd already organized all of his high orcs into squads, and, under Garm's tutelage, built several city blocks worth of buildings. Our little village was quickly turning into a real town, and the crazy speeds at which it was happening were all thanks to Geld and his orcs.

So, I gave him the last name, Orcus. I didn't want to give him a gemstone last name because, like Ranga, he represented his whole species, and I felt like putting in a nod to their roots, the fallen orc kingdom of Orbic, was only right.

Naturally, he burst into tears after I did so, but when the magicules settled, he'd gained the Extra Skill: Protect. Basically, all Protect did was make him stronger when he was protecting something, but since Gourmet could transfer a weakened copy of the skill to all the orcs under his command, it couldn't be underestimated.

Somewhere along the way, our town grew a bit more. First was a group of several thousand goblins. I decided to name them in a similar manner as I did the 'Yellow' orcs, with the letter G, then a number.

Yeah, I hate naming things now.

Then, Gabil came, too, along with about a hundred lizardmen who'd simply looked up to him too much to leave him, even though he'd been banished. This time, I simply told Wise One to come up with the names for me at random, based on every single name I'd ever seen in my previous life, language be damned. My only restriction was that I didn't want to ever use the same name twice.

But, as it turned out, not all of the lizardman who'd come with Gabil were with him. His sister, the lizardman chief's guard, had also come. Apparently, Abil's lifespan had extended radically by my naming him, so, since succession would have to wait a while, he'd decided to send his daughter over to me for some life experience.

She did request to serve Soei directly, though. The kijin in question was thrilled to have subordinates of his own, so I allowed it, naming her Soka, and her companions Toka, Saika, Namso, and Hokuso.

I also somehow ended up naming Gabil. His new name was now Gabil. How that worked, I didn't really know, and honestly, I didn't really care, either.

Naturally, every single lizardman that I named evolved into a dragonewt like Abil. As it turns out, female dragonewts actually look really human, except for the horns and the wings.

Still, though. I hate naming things now.

As an aside, since Gabil's heart was in the right place, even though he was an idiot, both Abil and I planned to forgive him for his idiocy if he grew enough while working under me.

I even gave his sister, Soka, the last name Lis, representing Lizard. He'd earn that last name in time, if he proved that he deserved it.
