Chapter 68 - Chapter 68: Growth Period

No fighting Tacet Discords, no combat—Noah's days became plain and unadorned.

Waking up at eight or nine in the morning, then going out to combine breakfast and lunch while doing the continuous daily quest .

After eating, finding the folk researcher Xuanyin to do the continuous chronicle quest .

Completing these two quests stably earned 2400 Astrite per day. The remaining time became aimless.

In his leisure time, Noah either patrolled the streets with Chixia, went to Liuhe Teahouse to chat with Jianxin, or watched Lingyang's lion dance.

If really bored, he could visit Verina's flower shop, Yuanwu's boxing gym, and so on.

Though a bit boring every day, this street-loitering lifestyle—honestly, Noah quite enjoyed it.

The only thing worth mentioning was that over these few days, Yangyang kept inviting him out of the city for outings and to tour Jinzhou's rivers and mountains, all of which he refused.

"With my current condition, how can I leave the city? I don't even know if I've recovered."

A new day. Noah lazily lay on the large bed, raising his hand to look at the blue Serenity Bracelet on his wrist, letting out a long breath.

Continuously refusing Yangyang made Noah feel quite guilty.

But leaving the city might mean facing Tacet Discords. Facing Tacet Discords meant fighting. Fighting might cause him to lose control.

What to do? He could only refuse.

He couldn't let Yangyang protect him... well, it wasn't impossible.

But bro has his pride—how could he hide behind a woman?

Somewhat irritated, he scratched his head and counted the days:

"Today is the sixth day. Tomorrow I can go to Baizhi for a check-up on my condition."

"I should be healed by now, right? After all, I've relaxed for so many days."

With a thought, Noah summoned the panel.

[Currently possessing Radiant Tide *20, Lustrous Tide *0, Astrite *22600, Shell Credits *960000.]

Looking at his Astrite count, Noah couldn't help but show the satisfied smile unique to hoarders.

"After finishing today's quests, I'll have 25,000 Astrite! Save a bit more—I'm pulling Jinhsi to 6 Constellations!"

Noah did a carp flip off the bed, began his daily wash, and opened the quest list.

The quest list still had those one blue and one green quests. The golden main quest hadn't updated since the end of the Jinzhou campaign.

"The blue chronicle quest is still the series. Today it'll be lizard language."

While brushing his teeth, Noah pondered.

Lizard language translation module... seems useless. Whatever, whatever—just for the 1600 Astrite, this quest must be done.

As an electric sound rang out, Noah answered the terminal communication:

"Noah, it's me, Yangyang."

Today's Yangyang sounded a bit weak, her tone carrying a hint of request:

"Last night there was heavy rain. A landslide near Taoyuan Vale caused great trouble for the villagers."

"The Midnight Rangers are organizing rescue in an orderly manner, but rear support is a bit short-staffed. Um... could you come help a little?"

"The work won't be too hard—just maintaining order and such. If you show up, I think the villagers who lost their homes will feel encouraged."

"Okay."

As Noah agreed, the voice on the other end became disappointed:

"Okay, it's fine if you can't... Ah?"

Yangyang suddenly became excited: "You just agreed, right? Great! I'll send you the location."

As the terminal hung up, Noah paused brushing his teeth, his gaze stopping on the green daily quest in the panel.

Today, the daily quest was no longer playing crosstalk with Yihu.

[Daily Quest: ]

[Quest Description: Unprecedented heavy rain caused the villagers of Taoyuan Vale to lose their homes they relied on for survival. Their world has no light. Please... open a window for them.]

[Completion Reward: Astrite *800, Shell Credits *10000.]

"Their world has no light, but why is the quest name 'You Live in the Light'?"

Noah puzzledly turned back, looking at his 380-square-meter three-bedroom, one-living-room, one-kitchen, one-bath suite in the City Hall state guest house.

"Let me think—how does 'Inscription on a Humble Room' go: The Six Kings complete, the Four Seas one... whatever, not reciting."

Closing the panel, Noah set off immediately.

...

"The temporary base is set up. Auntie, follow this road and the signs."

In the open wilderness, Yangyang wore an armband labeled "Disaster Relief Army" on her arm, guiding an elderly person toward the temporary base.

The air after the rain was fresh, but the girl's mood was somewhat heavy.

"Yangyang!"

A shout came from afar. Noah quickly walked to Yangyang's side:

"Didn't you say maintain order? I don't seem to see many people."

Seeing Noah, joy flashed in the girl's eyes, but it was instantly suppressed by sorrow.

"Sorry, I should have called you earlier. The Midnight Rangers' temporary disaster relief team acted quickly. Most villagers have already been sent to the temporary base."

Yangyang took out an identical armband and carefully put it on Noah, slowly explaining:

"So it's not particularly busy now. Just assist the remaining few villagers and guide them to the temporary base."

Hearing this, Noah immediately understood.

So it wasn't that it wasn't busy—it was that he arrived late.

"This is good news. Though the villagers suffered disaster, the Midnight Rangers responded swiftly, giving them a new foothold."

"That's true."

Yangyang looked up, seriously reminding:

"But don't say that in front of the villagers. The heavy rain destroyed their homes and fields—that already makes them very sad."

"Understood!"

===✧✦✧===

Jinzhou, City Hall.

"All soldiers fought desperately to defend Jinzhou and deserve rewards. Noah saved Jinzhou twice in a row and should be heavily rewarded."

Jinhsi lightly bit the end of her pen, falling into thought:

"But for someone like Noah, what should I give him to make him happy?"

That person could, for the sake of strangers in Jinzhou, face life and death against Scar.

After Jinzhou stabilized initially, he rushed to the front lines, throwing himself into clearing the Tacet Discord wave.

When the Threnodian resurrected and Jinzhou was in peril again, he resolutely went and repelled the Threnodian, saving Jinzhou from fire and water once more.

When the world called him a hero, he always considered himself an ordinary person, humble in demeanor. When faced with goodwill from all sides like a tide, he never silently accepted—he always gave back.

"For such a noble person with grace toward Jinzhou akin to rebirth, what can Jinzhou offer in thanks?"

Jinhsi suddenly coughed heavily. She grabbed the handkerchief on the desk to cover her mouth. When she released it, the white handkerchief was stained deep red.

"Magistrate, should we have the academy—"

Sanhua hesitated but ultimately only silently poured a pot of bitter tea for the Magistrate.

"No need to trouble the academy, Sanhua. I know my time is running out."

In the five days after the Retroact Rain, Jinhsi's condition had continued to worsen severely. Even the academy was powerless.

"In the limited time left, I want to do as many meaningful things as possible."

Jinhsi pushed aside the densely packed documents on the desk, slowly standing up. She gazed fondly at the peaceful and tranquil Jinzhou outside the window. A morbid flush appeared on her pale face.

She simply gazed silently, gazing—tears gradually welled up in her eyes, spinning, and she couldn't help but feel a sting.

"Counselor Changli said she discovered traces of the Sentinel at the edge of the forbidden Mt. Firmament, but Mt. Firmament is affected by time flow—one can enter but not leave..."

"As Her only Resonator, I can feel the Sentinel growing weaker and weaker. I must find Her."

"Hm... Before that, I want to finally visit Jinzhou's benefactor—Sanhua, tell me Noah's current location."

Sanhua remained silent, took out her terminal, and sent a message. Soon after receiving a reply, Sanhua spoke:

"Last night, Taoyuan Vale was affected by heavy rain, leaving villagers homeless. Fortunately, no casualties. The honored guest is currently near Taoyuan Vale assisting with order management."

Hearing this, Jinhsi finally showed a trace of smile.

"As expected of him—he always does unexpected things."
