Chapter 56 - Chapter 56: Racing Against Time

Hearing this, Noah and Yangyang were both stunned at the same time.

Oh no, the retreating general is starting to exert his influence!

"General, do you intend to face the Threnodian alone?" The first to react was Yangyang.

A trace of indignation appeared on her gentle face: "The Threnodian has revived, and Jinzhou is in grave peril. How could we be people who fear death and cling to life?"

On the way to the Desorock Highland camp, Yangyang had only been upset that Noah had hidden too much from her and acted unilaterally.

She believed Noah could have stayed out of this entirely, but Yangyang never felt she could evade her own duty.

As a member of the Outriders, from the moment she joined the army, she had been prepared to lay down her life for Jinzhou.

Thus, even with dangers at every turn along the way, Yangyang had never chosen to give up.

"Even if I die in battle, I will never be someone who cowardly clings to life."

"Good!"

Jiyan took a deep breath, then turned to look at Noah. That gaze of resolute readiness to die made Noah feel inexplicably puzzled:

"Why are you looking at me? I'm not going to desert at the last moment. If I ran now, I'd become a sinner whose crimes Jinzhou could never fully record."

It's just fighting a Dreamless, not a real Threnodian.

Noah joked, then shrugged:

"Instead of thinking about how to die, better to think about what to eat tonight."

"What do you want to eat?" Jiyan suddenly asked in a deep voice.

"I'm kind of craving Jinzhou skewers."

"If we make it back alive—"

Jiyan placed a hand on Noah's shoulder and said earnestly: "However many Jinzhou skewers you want, it's my treat!"

"This battle concerns the safety of Jinzhou and even the entire Huanglong. For the sake of all the people, we must win!"

Hearing this, Noah was instantly dumbfounded.

Bro, can you please stop raising death flags so casually!

The three didn't speak further. They deployed their glider wings, riding an updraft rising from the ground to reach the top of the suspended structure.

Under the ashen sky, in the distance, was the core of the Ovathrax statue.

Looking up from the bottom at this marvelously crafted colossal statue, a sense of tiny despair naturally welled up from the heart.

"The path ahead is completely severed, but fortunately, there are countless boulders blasted out by the Disruptor in the middle."

At this point, Jiyan subconsciously glanced at Noah.

If Noah hadn't ordered Mortefi in advance to bombard the core of the Ovathrax statue, they would probably be scratching their heads over how to reach that distant statue right now.

Noah was about to take out his Grapple to hook a nearby boulder when he suddenly sensed a short, piercing frequency.

His right hand clutched his head tightly, easing the sudden pain in his brain.

This frequency was indescribable—it was far sharper and more chaotic than the Mech Abomination, like the shrill screams of tens of thousands, yet carrying a terror the Mech Abomination lacked, something unspeakable.

This was... the Threnodian's power!

In an instant, the Threnodian reorganized massive frequencies, spawning countless Common-class and Giant Wave-class Tacet Discords at the base of the statue!

"Noah, what's wrong?"

Yangyang and Jiyan beside him hurriedly asked. Noah raised his head, his face turning grim.

"Tacet Discords—extremely many Tacet Discords."

Hearing Noah's answer, Jiyan's brows furrowed tightly.

Tacet Discords? Where were there any Tacet Discords?

Both he and Yangyang were Aero-attribute Resonators with extremely strong perception abilities. If there were Tacet Discords, they should have detected them long ago.

Jiyan looked up, scanning around, and finally spotted a Common-class Tacet Discord appearing.

He extended his perception, and his expression suddenly became just as grim.

Behind that one Common-class Tacet Discord were ten, a hundred, countless Tacet Discords surging forward endlessly.

Judgment Warriors, Bell-Borne Musicians, Abyss Guardians, Frostbreak Hunters, Cruising Hunters, Decree Musicians...

"So many Tacet Discords... It looks like a fierce battle is coming!"

"No, we absolutely cannot get entangled with these Tacet Discords."

Noah shook his head, his expression still grim:

"As long as the Threnodian remains, it will continuously reorganize frequencies and create more Tacet Discords. We must first enter the statue's core and deal with the Threnodian."

Hearing this, Jiyan's face changed:

"But if we don't clear these Tacet Discords and rashly enter the core, once they surround us, they'll easily overwhelm us."

"You're right, so—"

Noah looked at the large number of Tacet Discords slowly approaching from afar and spoke seriously to Jiyan and Yangyang:

"Jiyan, Yangyang—you two clear the Tacet Discords on the perimeter and escort me inside to deal with the Threnodian!"

"Noah! This is a battlefield—don't be reckless. How could I possibly let you face the Threnodian alone in such a dangerous situation!"

A swift sound of a blade being unsheathed interrupted their argument.

Jiyan and Noah turned to look, only to see Yangyang drawing her Overture, her lips lightly pressed together:

"I think... I'm the most suitable person to stay here."

"No." Noah rejected immediately: "I won't feel at ease with you holding this place alone."

In Noah's plan, Jiyan and Yangyang were supposed to clear the Tacet Discords together.

As for the Dreamless, he would handle it.

"What if you're not at ease? I'm not at ease with you fighting the Threnodian either."

Yangyang gave a wry smile:

"But just like you said—some things always need someone to do them."

Seeing Yangyang use his own words against him, Noah's gaze sharpened: "That person doesn't have to be alone."

"It can be!"

Yangyang turned around, no longer looking at Jiyan or Noah. She faced the countless surging Tacet Discords in the distance, her gaze gradually becoming resolute:

"Don't hesitate anymore, Noah, General—you are the ones with hope of defeating the Threnodian, and defeating the Threnodian is our shared wish!"

"For this wish of peace, for everyone in Jinzhou..."

"I will use my flesh as cement and my bones as rebar to pave the way for you. Please... step over me and go higher and farther."

Leaving those words, the blue-hatted, feathered-haired girl gave the two no room to argue.

She ran swiftly, her Overture gleaming with cold light. Endless currents of air escorted her forward, while ahead... were thousands upon thousands of enemies!

For a moment, Noah felt as if his heart had been struck by a heavy hammer. He suddenly understood the feelings this girl had carried all along the way.

Worry born of care, fear born of worry, and the desire to protect born of fear—this feeling tightly grips a person's heart.

He suddenly felt time was so pressing that not a single second could be wasted.

The Threnodian! It's all because of the Threnodian! The Threnodian must be dealt with as soon as possible!

Noah looked back deeply once, then nodded to Jiyan.

In the next moment, both simultaneously fired their Grapples, rushing toward the battlefield that belonged to them!
