"What are you trying to do?! Are you planning a rebellion?!"
Inside the luxurious palace, several finely dressed nobles shouted fiercely at a large group of fully armed soldiers below the dais.
Upon the throne sat the "King" whom most of humanity inside the walls would probably never see in their entire lives.
The "King" remained very calm, propping his head on his hand and quietly watching the coup unfolding before his eyes.
Beside the throne stood the highest-ranking nobles within the walls, even senior figures of the Wall Church. They controlled nearly all power inside the walls, even half of the military.
"A coup?! Nile! As the commander of the Military Police, sworn to protect the King—are you really going to stand by and watch these damned traitors launch a rebellion?!"
A portly noble, cold sweat glistening on his face, roared at Nile, who stood among the soldiers.
"And you too! Pixis, Randy—you two parasites! You dare take part in a rebellion as well?!"
"No, we are not traitors. You are the traitors to humanity. From the moment you decided to abandon hundreds of thousands of civilians outside Wall Sheena, you became enemies of mankind!" Pixis stepped forward and harshly refuted the nobles.
"The duty of the Military Police is to protect the King and the people, not to protect a fake king who abandoned the people to survive in comfort!"
Nile clenched his fists, glaring furiously.
Even the usually taciturn Randy Wald spoke with a dark expression:
"The Garrison exists to protect the walls and humanity. It will not protect traitors to mankind!"
Standing at the very front, Erwin straightened his back and fixed his gaze on the great nobles on the platform.
"My lords, face reality. Protecting humanity is the duty of us soldiers."
Erwin spoke each word with force.
"Bastards! Utter bastards!"
Several nobles trembled with rage.
But what no one had expected was that the Military Police guarding Erwin would suddenly defect. Before that, there had even been a sudden report that Wall Rose had fallen.
The high-and-mighty nobles, of course, did not care about the rabble inside Wall Rose. They immediately ordered Wall Sheena sealed, refusing entry to refugees.
Yet at the very moment they were seething with fury, every soldier's gun was aimed directly at them.
Pixis and Randy walked into the palace side by side, followed by a large contingent of Garrison troops stationed at Rose.
All of this was Commander Pixis's plan—essentially a test to see whether the one on the throne truly cared about the people's lives. If he genuinely did, perhaps keeping him would still be useful.
"Where is Darius?! Where did all the Central Military Police go?!"
Watching the fully armed soldiers slowly closing in, one noble lost all composure and screamed hysterically.
Darius was the premier of the three regiments.
"Darius? We brought him for you."
A deep, resonant voice came from outside the doors, drawing everyone's attention.
With the sound of orderly footsteps, an elderly man with white hair and beard, wearing a military coat and glasses perched on his nose, led a squad of soldiers inside.
The man was none other than Darius Zackly, Commander-in-Chief Zackly, supreme commander of the three military branches.
Zackly's soldiers were dragging along a bloodied, unconscious Central Military Police officer.
Zackly looked at the shocked nobles with a mocking gaze.
"Don't bother hoping. The entire Central Military Police has already been taken down."
"Damn it! You useless piece of trash—say something!"
One noble, face twisted with rage, noticed that the man on the throne was still calmly supporting his head. Enraged, he slapped him hard.
Smack!
The loud slap finally woke the "King" on the throne.
"(?_?) Huh? What's going on? Is it time to eat? I want fried pork cutlets."
After blurting that out in confusion, the fake king and the nobles were immediately swarmed and arrested by the soldiers.
The fake king was nothing more than a decorative puppet who only knew how to eat. That was exactly what the nobles wanted—a figurehead on the throne made it easier for them to control power. And the true king had not objected.
"You idiots! You'll pay for this! When the King activates his power, you'll all be turned into idiots!"
Pixis and the others did not spare the now-raving nobles a second glance, instead gathering to discuss the aftermath.
"The Central Military Police have all been detained. We owe thanks to Commander-in-Chief Zackly for his assistance here," Pixis said to Zackly, who was wiping his glasses.
Zackly let out a hearty laugh.
"No, this suits me just fine. I've long been sick of those bags of grease. Even without you, I might've launched a coup before retiring."
No one responded. It was not an easy remark to follow.
In the end, Randy broke the silence.
"Our top priority now is to calm the populace. Pixis and I will mobilize the Garrison to pacify the people and prevent any hidden noble uprisings."
Pixis said half-jokingly, "Randy, isn't the Wald family one of the great noble houses too?"
Randy replied without changing expression, "If my family is involved, I will deal with it personally."
Anyone who knew Randy's character would not doubt his words. Everyone present felt a surge of respect.
Nile stated, "The Military Police will be responsible for maintaining order within the capital."
"There's one final matter. It's manageable in the short term, but the people will certainly be dissatisfied with the military holding governmental power. So, Erwin, we need that girl."
Erwin nodded.
"Our intelligence on the true royal Reiss family is still insufficient, but the operation to reclaim Eren must be executed immediately. The Reiss family went to great lengths to take Eren—they must have their own agenda."
"Interrogation? Leave it to me. Give me half a day, and I'll make those noble lords spill every secret they have,"
Zackly said with a chilling grin.
"Heh, I'll even make them tell me how many hairs the so-called royal family has on their asses."
Zackly's pathological smile made it clear his methods would not be gentle.
"Then we'll leave it to you, Commander-in-Chief Zackly," Erwin said with a nod.
Pixis asked, "Erwin, according to your letter, could the Reiss family also possess the power of the Titans? How should we respond?"
Erwin replied, "Intelligent Titans are terrifying—but we also have soldiers who possess that power."
Pixis froze.
"Besides Eren, does the Survey Corps have another soldier with Titan power?"
Erwin said, "There are three."
....
Three figures stood atop a tower.
"I don't care about the past anymore. Right now, I just want to save Historia."
Ymir crossed her arms.
Yago and Annie stood to the side.
"Don't worry. We'll save Historia."
After helping Annie tie up her hair in a bun, Yago said seriously.
