"Action!"
With a short command, everyone donned their equipment and filed out of the hidden room in an orderly line.
...
Inside a somewhat messy office, Chairman Reeves of the Reeves Company was discussing something with his son, Flegel.
"Dad, was that really the Central Military Police? If it was them, why didn't they do it themselves? When the Central Military Police arrest someone, who would even dare to run?"
Flegel was confused, because his father had told him to gather manpower to help the Central Military Police capture two people.
Dimo looked at his unreliable son and felt a headache coming on. How could he ever feel at ease handing the entire company over to him in the future?
"Don't ask so much. It's not our place to meddle in this stuff anyway. It's all those officials' business. Civilians don't fight officials." Dimo didn't want to explain too much.
"Has Mike arrived yet? How's the manpower you found?"
Flegel: "Uh, he should be here soon. I saw Mike earlier."
Before he could finish speaking, there came a knock at the door. The voice outside was Mike's:
"Chairman! We're ready. We've got enough people. We can act now."
"Good, Mike. Come in."
"Okay."
Dimo and Flegel didn't notice that Mike's voice was trembling slightly.
Outside the door, the brown-haired Mike was shaking all over. A sharp blade was held horizontally in front of his neck, and he could even feel the cold emanating from the knife.
Levi's eyes were sharp as he gestured to Jurgen and Yago beside him. Both nodded.
Bang! The door was kicked open violently. The sudden change left Dimo and Flegel stunned. They only saw three people burst in from outside, and behind them, Mike was also being held with a knife to his neck by a woman.
Yago moved quickly, delivering a flying kick that sent the still-dazed Flegel crashing to the ground.
Jurgen, however, was a step slower. More importantly, Dimo reacted even faster. He swiftly pulled a firearm from an open drawer.
Jurgen's pupils shrank—damn it! He hadn't expected this merchant to react so fast! There was no time to dodge.
Bang! A gunshot rang out. Jurgen couldn't help blinking, but he felt no pain at all.
Looking again, Dimo had already been completely knocked down by Levi, groaning in pain.
The gunshot seemed to alarm the people outside as well.
On the roof of a building, a figure flashed past, leaving behind the sound of gas propulsion.
At the top of the tallest tower in Trost District, a figure stood tall.
A black top hat shadowed the man's eyes, and he wore a strange piece of equipment on his body.
Hiss! With the sound of gas jets, a blonde woman wearing the same equipment walked over to the man.
"Captain, the plan doesn't seem to be going smoothly. They went straight to that merchant's office."
But the man did not reply.
"Captain? Captain?"
The blonde woman called out twice, but still got no response.
So she said rather rudely, "Captain? Are you dead? If you are, does that mean I get to be the captain now?"
The cutting remark finally drew a response from the man.
"Traute, if you want my position next time, you don't need to curse me. Kill me, and the position is yours."
The brim of the black hat lifted, revealing a pair of eyes filled with killing intent.
But Traute didn't seem to care about the threat in her captain's words at all.
"Captain, you finally decided to speak. Looks like our great Ripper Kenny's plan has been seen through."
This captain was Kenny, who had once crossed paths with Yago.
Kenny revealed a smile, though it was filled with murderous intent.
"What a surprise. I thought that little brat Levi would forget those dirty, low-down tricks from the Underground after joining the Survey Corps. Didn't expect he'd still remember."
The valiant Traute took her captain calling her methods dirty and low-down in stride—she was already used to it.
"So what do we do next?" Traute asked for instructions.
Kenny raised the device in his hand, making no attempt to hide the killing intent in his eyes, and said, "We still have to complete Rod's task. After all, I promised Uri. You go and take the little girl and that little thief. As for me, I'm going to pay a visit to a kid I haven't seen in a long time!"
Traute said nothing. These were the captain's orders.
"Yes, Captain!"
...
"So, who are you people?" Dimo and the others were tied up, hands and feet bound, as they shouted their demands.
Yago lifted his cloak. "Chairman Reeves, nice to meet you. We've met once before, you know."
As for the reason behind this operation, it went back to the day Yago and Annie entered Trost District. In a corner of a tavern, the two had overheard Mike raising his mug and openly recruiting manpower, loudly saying he needed people to help the Reeves Company capture a little brat and a blonde girl.
At the time, Annie and Yago hadn't taken it seriously. But later, when they learned that Eren and Historia seemed to have become targets for certain people, everything began to connect.
Fortunately, the plan had been very successful. It was just a bit of a shame that they didn't get to see Armin in women's clothing.
Meanwhile, elsewhere.
Because of the mission, Eren and Historia stayed in the room while Kira and three other Survey Corps members from Hange's squad stood guard.
It was nearly noon, and Kira went out to buy food.
When Kira returned carrying bags, the sound of Vertical Maneuvering Equipment jets immediately caught her attention. As an elite soldier, her instincts made her sense danger at once.
Kira quickly slipped into an alley. Then her eyes widened—three companions lay in pools of blood, and a bald man wearing strange equipment stood guard at the door. Soon after, Eren and Historia, bound tightly, along with the still-weak Ymir, were led out of the room by others wearing the same equipment as the bald man.
Kira covered her mouth, terrified, but still immediately pulled out the signal flare gun at her waist. Bang! A red signal flare shot into the sky.
The conspicuous flare made the bald man's face change.
"Take them away! Hurry!"
...
The red signal flare rose into the air.
"Eren!!" Mikasa immediately rushed toward Eren's direction. Why! Why was it that whenever she wasn't by Eren's side, something would happen to him?
Levi and the others also saw the red flare. It meant something had gone wrong over there with Eren.
Levi's face darkened instantly.
"Was this a decoy? This kind of method… Kenny?"
Yago hadn't expected trouble on Eren's side either, and then realized he seemed to have fallen into a trap.
"Fortunately, Annie stayed nearby. I hope she makes it in time!" Levi made a quick decision, leaving Jurgen to watch Dimo and the others. Petra and Yago immediately went with him to support Eren!
The new recruits on guard outside hurried to follow as well.
Things were always this hard to predict.
