Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Charms Class

Breakfast at Hogwarts was pretty good.

After enjoying the food, the little wizards headed to their upcoming classes, mostly in groups of two or three.

"Our dormitory is absolutely amazing! Looking out the window, you can directly see the mountains and the river outside!"

Lily's tone was full of excitement.

She couldn't wait to share her thrilled feelings with Snape, her emerald-green eyes shining brightly.

"And Lupin seems to have found new friends, too. It's those two guys we clashed with on the train, plus a short, chubby boy. But I don't really like them."

Like a chirping lark, Lily's mouth didn't stop on the way to the Charms classroom.

This class was shared by Gryffindor and Slytherin.

Therefore, after carefully traversing a section of slowly moving staircases, Snape and Lily eventually arrived at the same place and logically sat together.

A sharp, dissatisfied gaze shot from behind. Without even thinking, Snape knew it came from his roommate Mulciber, whom he had tragically ignored last night.

"...Who is he?"

"My roommate. A pathetic worm whose brain has been burned out by pure-blood ideology. I haven't decided how to deal with him yet."

Her smile stiffened for a moment.

Thinking of some movie plots she had seen at home, Lily's eyes gradually became serious and sad, but finally filled with determination. With great resolve, she said word by word:

"When you're done, I'll help you carry the body to the Forbidden Forest and bury it. Just be careful not to be discovered by other students and teachers."

Snape turned his head abruptly, showing such a shocked expression in front of Lily for the first time.

Although he knew that one takes on the color of one's company, it had only been two years. Wasn't the speed of your moral decline a bit too fast?!

"Where is your mind wandering? I'm still young; I don't want to go to Azkaban!"

Knocking on Lily's head, as expected, a hollow sound came from inside.

Lily glared at him.

*I finally made up my mind to be your partner in crime, and this is how you repay me?!*

She wanted to say something more, but Professor Flitwick happened to walk in at this moment. Lily could only settle for the second best option and glared at Snape, indicating that this wasn't over.

Professor Flitwick, who taught Charms, was part-goblin.

He was very short and needed to stand on a pile of books to speak so that all students could see him. His voice was also high-pitched.

But unlike other little wizards who faintly underestimated this professor due to his appearance, Snape knew an unknown achievement of Professor Flitwick—

Duelling Champion!

This title was the most powerful proof of the strength of the goblin before him. In the entire Hogwarts, his strength was probably enough to rank in the top three!

"Charms are an inseparable part of a wizard's life, and spells that help us fully utilize the function of our wands.

Many times, a well-timed charm can save us a lot of time and energy.

Turning the impossible into possible.

In battle, an exquisite and clever casting can often turn defeat into victory!"

Standing on the pile of books.

With a smile on his face, Professor Flitwick's approachable teaching quickly attracted the attention of all the little wizards.

Raising his wand, Professor Flitwick pointed at a light feather not far away, and pronounced clearly in the most distinct and slow tone:

"Wingardium Leviosa!"

Thus, amidst gasps of amazement.

The feather floated up slowly, flying casually in the direction Professor Flitwick's wand pointed!

And at this moment when almost every little wizard couldn't take their eyes off, Lily leaned over and whispered:

"You used this spell to cheat before school started, right?"

"..."

It took a good while for Snape to recall, with a mix of amusement and exasperation, that she was still hung up on their playful fight the day she received her acceptance letter.

"Yeah. And I taught you this spell too, didn't I? You just didn't have a wand back then, so you couldn't cast it."

"Heh heh, so I should thank you?"

"You're welcome."

"...I didn't thank you!"

Flustered and exasperated, Lily stepped lightly on Snape's foot.

Just at this moment, while Professor Flitwick was explaining the key points of the Levitation Charm, a disgusting voice sounded maliciously from the back row.

"Professor, why not let the great Mr. Snape try? Seeing how he's flirting with his girlfriend, such a simple spell shouldn't be a problem at all, right?"

As expected.

The one suddenly making trouble at this time was James, with whom he had long held a grudge.

A burst of cooperative laughter rang out. Sirius and Peter, sitting to James's right, acted particularly cooperatively.

Lupin sat to his left.

His eyes revealed a troubled emotion. He opened his mouth to speak, but obviously didn't because of worry about causing James's dissatisfaction.

Actually, whether they knew magic or not, brats of this age were all about the same.

Boring classes would make all children drowsy.

In contrast, once an unexpected situation occurred in class, even if it was just a small interlude that usually wouldn't attract their attention at all, at this time it could stimulate everyone's interest thousands of times over!

Just like now, the mocking gazes coming from all directions brought real pressure. If someone with slightly less psychological endurance were in his place, they might have already started crying.

But what made James unhappy was:

It seemed that no matter what happened, he couldn't see a panicked look on that handsome and indifferent face!

Only the red-haired girl beside him glared at him.

However, the annoying guy he regarded as an enemy just calmly raised his wand, aimed at the feather on the table, and said lightly:

"Wingardium Leviosa."

All the little wizards were surprised to see the feather gently break free from the constraints of gravity and soar straight up!

It showed absolutely none of the difficulties described by Professor Flitwick, only a smooth and natural flow!

"Well done, Mr. Snape, just like that!"

Professor Flitwick squeaked, sparing no encouragement.

"Ten points to Slytherin!"

The tangible reward awakened the minds of other little wizards, making them unable to wait to start trying the Levitation Charm.

Even Snape could succeed on the first try; maybe this spell wasn't as difficult as imagined?

Unexpected situations one after another shattered everyone's fantasies.

Peter failed to make the feather float, but instead made himself float uncontrollably high into the air, screaming in fear after being stopped by the ceiling!

Confidence-filled Mulciber waved his wand.

But no matter how many times he tried, the feather remained motionless on the table, making Mulciber's expression no longer calm, gradually becoming anxious and doubting life.

James and Sirius were quite talented in charms, but in a short time, they could only make the feather vibrate slightly. Obviously, there was still some distance to true levitation.

Everyone finally personally felt the difficulty of the Levitation Charm.

Even if it was just the simplest introductory spell, not every wizard could cast it easily!

However, no one could have thought.

While they were still struggling in failure, the second successful example was born very quickly.

"Miss Evans, you performed very well. Ten points to Gryffindor!"

"Thank you, Professor Flitwick. But actually, Severus taught me this spell a long time ago. If points are to be awarded, they should be given to him too."

Lily held her wand, looking somewhat shy, and said words that made Professor Flitwick look stunned.

After taking another look at Snape.

A smile suddenly appeared on his face, and he said teasingly:

"It seems someone here secretly learned magic early. But Mr. Snape, I hope you can remember, it's fine before enrollment, but after enrollment, underage magic outside of school is prohibited."

"Thank you for the reminder, Professor Flitwick."

Snape nodded in agreement.

His obedient attitude made Professor Flitwick even more satisfied, shouting loudly:

"Ten points is what you deserve, Miss Lily. As for Mr. Snape, he will get another five points for his demonstrated eagerness to learn and helpfulness!"

Gazes of surprise and envy surged over.

But among them, there was no lack of dissatisfied boos, and some hostility became more obvious.

The first Charms class came to an end in a subtle atmosphere.

Until the end of this class, only five or six freshmen from the two houses successfully cast the Levitation Charm, and without exception, all received high praise from Professor Flitwick.

It was just a pity that the students who succeeded after Snape and Lily didn't get point rewards.

The homework after class was naturally to practice the Levitation Charm diligently to ensure that everyone could cast it successfully in the next class.

Walking out of the classroom in twos and threes.

Under James's deliberate jeering, many sarcastic remarks directed at Snape in the crowd were spoken particularly enthusiastically and loudly.

However, James would never know that apart from making Snape feel amused, this childish behavior would never have any other impact.

Just like during the holidays.

A runny-nosed brat from a relative's house runs over and loudly asserts that he wants to go to Tsinghua or Peking University in the future.

Aside from watching it as a joke and being done with it, Snape wouldn't make any comments!

He had long passed the age where he needed to rely on the gazes of others to survive.

Even if under James's instigation, all students were hostile or even dismissive of him, so what?

Learning knowledge during the seven years at Hogwarts was what mattered.

And seven years later, which of those clowns clamoring back then could still stand in front of him and be mentioned in the same breath?

Snape had this confidence.

Even without the replication system, he could still make a career in this magical world. It would just take a bit longer, that's all!

"Thank you very much for your help. May I ask if I can come to ask questions when you are free in the future?"

"Of course! Your theoretical knowledge is incredibly solid!"

Professor Flitwick looked surprised, smiling as he naturally shook the hand Snape extended.

"At least in the first-year curriculum, there might not be many problems for you. If you have time, you can go to the library and have a look."

"I will take your advice, Professor Flitwick."

His eyes glazed over for a moment.

The moment their palms touched, an imperceptible fluctuation of excitement appeared in Snape's tone.

Because in his vision, a string of golden specialties on Professor Flitwick was emitting the most conspicuous colors!
