The metallic scent of blood and thick, suffocating tension hung heavy over the entire courtyard.
I stood on the high stone pavilion beside Anabel, my shoulder practically touching hers as the icy mountain wind whipped past us. Below in the gravel square, Davian stood directly in front of Vincent's execution post. Davian's face was twisted in pure, lethal fury, his blue Alpha eyes burning like molten fire. He raised his heavy broadsword high into the freezing night air, both hands gripping the leather hilt, muscles straining as he prepared to bring the gleaming steel rushing down to sever the prince's head from his shoulders.
Every muscle in my body screamed for the blade to fall, to see the monster's head roll across the gravel and end this nightmare once and for all.
