"What...?!"
Kaito Kid's eyes widened. Caught off guard, he lost his balance.
He let out a startled cry. "Whoa—!"
He plummeted from the top of the lightning rod, over a dozen meters high, like a kite with a broken string!
"Kaito Kid—!!!" Sonoko shrieked in terror.
"Watch out!" Ran also gasped.
Conan's pupils constricted, and he immediately rushed to the edge of the roof. Could Kaitou Kid really just fall to his death like this?
Rin and Hugo also immediately got up and followed.
Everyone rushed to the railing at the edge of the roof, looking down anxiously.
"Kaito Kid!" Sonoko cried out, her voice tearful.
Just as everyone's hearts were in their throats, a slightly disheveled voice came from below.
"Hey, hey... isn't this a bit too unchivalrous? Interrupting someone's opening show is quite rude you know..."
Everyone followed the sound and looked down, only to see Kaito Kid, dressed in white, clinging desperately to the edge of an external air conditioner unit, which was protruding from the floor below and was only wide enough for one person to stand on.
He was pressed against the vertical wall like a gecko.
He was trying hard to pull himself up, clearly having had a nasty fall, but fortunately, he had managed to grab onto something at the last moment.
"Phew... good thing he's okay!" Ran breathed a sigh of relief.
Sonoko was even more excited, her eyes welling up with tears: "Kaito Kid! I'm so glad you're okay! Come up quickly!"
Seeing so many people gathered at the edge of the roof, staring at his undignified wall-clinging posture, Kaito Kid felt a bit embarrassed.
He cleared his throat, trying to maintain his composure. "Ahem... Ladies and gentlemen, this was just a small... hmm... interactive segment!"
Before he finished speaking, he sharply pressed his belt, and his white glider wings unfurled with a "swish" behind him. The miniature thrusters instantly ignited, spewing two powerful streams of air.
With the thrust from the thrusters, Kaito Kid easily broke free from gravity, landing steadily on the rooftop platform like an elegant white swan.
He nonchalantly straightened his wind-blown tie and cape, then adjusted his monocle and looked up.
He declared loudly. "That was quite a unique greeting. Is this the Mockingbird's method? Only attacking from the shadows? Don't get too smug, I was just careless and didn't dodge!"
"Mockingbird?" Everyone then snapped out of their daze and looked back in the direction Kaitou Kid was looking.
Under the cool moonlight, several meters above the rooftop platform, a slender figure was silently suspended in mid-air, defying gravity.
It was a purple-haired woman, her face was covered by a faint, translucent veil mask from the nose up, revealing only a pair of red eyes and a delicate chin.
She wore a Gothic-style outfit, predominantly black and purple, based on a white ruffled-collar shirt with a black corset dress over it.
In one hand, she held the parasol with a bird pattern that had just knocked Kaito Kid down.
Hugo frowned, covering the corner of his smiling mouth with his right hand, feigning a look of confusion. In his heart, he was anticipating Vivian's performance.
"F-floating in mid-air?!" Sonoko and Ran's mouths hung open, their faces filled with disbelief.
"This... how is this possible?!" Conan was also shocked and immediately began to observe closely.
His gaze quickly locked onto the parasol in Vivian's hand.
At several key points where the umbrella ribs connected to the handle, he saw tiny miniature thrusters, their nozzles emitting a faint blue glow!
These miniature thrusters were cleverly hidden within the umbrella's patterns and structure, completely unnoticeable without close inspection.
"So that's it! She's using the combination of miniature thrusters on that umbrella to achieve stable suspension!"
Conan suddenly realized, while secretly marveling at the Mockingbird's technological prowess.
"Hehehe~"
Vivian, suspended in the air, let out a light laugh, revealing two small, pointed fangs.
"A pleasure to meet you, Magician Under the Moonlight. That was just my 'Bird's Pilgrimage' to say hello. As a fellow phantom thief, you couldn't even dodge that... it seems you're not all that impressive."
"Hmph!" Kaito Kid's competitive spirit was ignited by her taunting tone.
"Underestimating me? Then let me show you what true phantom thief artistry is!" He wasn't one to just take a beating.
Kaito Kid quickly pulled out a police walkie-talkie from his pocket and held it to his mouth.
The next second, a steady, authoritative voice, identical to Superintendent Chaki Shintaro's, clearly rang out.
"All units, attention! This is Chaki! Kaito Kid spotted on the Beika City Hotel rooftop! Repeat, Kaito Kid spotted on the Beika City Hotel rooftop! Immediate backup!"
Immediately after, his voice seamlessly switched, becoming Inspector Nakamori Ginzo's energetic roar. "Everyone! Follow me to the rooftop! Surround him! We absolutely cannot let him escape this time!!!"
The imitation was so lifelike, even the urgency in the tone was perfectly mimicked.
"Huh?!"
Conan watched, dumbfounded, his jaw nearly dropping.
He touched the bow-tie voice changer around his neck, thinking that if he had such skill, he wouldn't need this thing. Unfortunately, Hawaii didn't teach that.
Woo—woo—!
Piercing police sirens cut through the night sky. Two police helicopters, originally patrolling nearby airspace, quickly adjusted their direction, their searchlight beams crisscrossing to lock onto the Beika City Hotel's rooftop platform.
At the same time, with a bang, the door leading from the roof to the stairwell was violently flung open. Inspector Nakamori led the charge, storming out with a large group of fully armed police officers.
"Kaito Kid! This time, you can't escape even with wings! Surrender now!" Inspector Nakamori aimed his gun at Kaitou Kid, panting but incredibly excited as he roared.
Facing the heavy encirclement, Kaito Kid appeared unusually calm.
He bowed elegantly, his voice amplified across the rooftop.
"Inspector Nakamori, Happy April Fools'! I regret to inform you that I already know the 'black star' placed in the Beika Museum tonight is nothing more than a beautiful fake.
My purpose for this visit was not to steal, but to give everyone an April Fools' greeting."
He paused, his gaze sweeping over Inspector Nakamori's drastically changing expression, then pointed a finger at Vivian, who was suspended in mid-air.
"By the way, Inspector Nakamori, don't just point your gun at me! That lady with the pointed ears over there is a member of the famous Mockingbird organization, and also a highly skilled phantom thief! You can't show favoritism."
"Pointed ears?" Conan was startled by the remark and instinctively looked at Vivian again.
Under the searchlight, he only saw Vivian's violet hair.
Her ears were covered by her hair, only an indistinct outline was visible. But this outline seemed normal, and he couldn't discern any obvious pointed ear features.
Why did Kaito Kid call her that, did he really see something?
