The tall obsidian doors of the Demon King's study stood closed, carved with ancient runes that shimmered faintly with protective spells. Inside, the air was still, heavy with the scent of old parchment, burning incense, and the faint hum of dark magic.

Kairo sat behind a massive desk of blackened wood, his fingers steepled beneath his chin, eyes fixed on a map laid out before him. His cloak was draped across one shoulder, and his crown of obsidian horns rested nearby — unnecessary for moments of solitude.

The map was alive, pulsing with threads of red light — threads that moved, tangled, and frayed with each shift of fate. And one, brighter than the rest, now glowed faint blue.

He narrowed his eyes.

A knock broke the silence. Two firm raps.

"Enter," Kairo said without looking up.

The door opened, and his personal guard — Varek — stepped in. The towering male bowed, his armor gleaming with demonic sigils.

"Sire," Varek said. "The Chief Guard of Velmira is here. He requests an urgent audience."

Kairo's brow lifted slightly. "Velmira? That quiet village hasn't troubled us in a century. What's the matter?"Varek hesitated. "He claims to have arrested a… witch. One involved in the death of a thief."

Now Kairo looked up, his gaze sharpening. "Death?"

"Frozen. And shattered," Varek said. "But that's not all. There are whispers, my King — of untrained ice magic. And… a strange mark."

For a moment, the silence in the study deepened.

Kairo stood slowly.

"Bring him in."

Moments later, the Chief Guard was led in — a grizzled man with a thick beard and silver-lined armor. He bowed deeply, but his face remained tense.

"My Lord," he began. "Forgive the intrusion—"

"Speak clearly," Kairo said, his voice calm but edged with power.

The man swallowed. "A young woman, cloaked, unknown to the village… she unleashed powerful ice magic without chant or staff. A thief had stolen her basket. She froze him mid-run. He shattered."

Kairo's expression remained unreadable. "And the mark?"

The man nodded. "A few villagers claim they saw something glow beneath her collarbone. Blue light. Faint, but unnatural."

That caught Kairo's attention.

He turned away, walking slowly toward the large arched window. Outside, the twin moons had begun their rise, casting silver over the spires.

"Where is she now?"

"In the holding tower, my King. We thought it best to bring her here… for your judgment."Kairo's voice dropped. "You were right."

He turned, his crimson eyes glowing faintly now. "Prepare the high chamber. Have her brought to me — no harm, no pressure. And keep the spirit beast alive. I want to see both."

The guard bowed low. "At once, Your Majesty."

As they left, Varek remained behind, stepping forward. "You believe it's her, don't you?"

Kairo didn't answer immediately. He simply returned to the glowing map — and stared at the one blue thread that pulsed like a heartbeat.

"She's crossed the veil," he said quietly. "And the mark has awakened."

He looked up at the sky.

"Fate begins to turn
