The cave is quiet again.
Not the kind of silence filled with fear—but the kind that follows survival, when hearts are still unsteady and emotions linger in the air.
Lin Yue watches Mo Shan carefully.
The way Mo Shan keeps his distance, close enough to protect but never close enough to demand. The way his eyes return to Lin Yue again and again, checking the faint golden glow beneath his skin as if afraid it might disappear. The way his body remains half-tense, always ready to step in front of danger.
That care… it isn't loud.
But it's sincere.
"Mo Shan," Lin Yue says softly.
Mo Shan looks up at once. "Yes?"
Lin Yue exhales, gathering courage. "You've always been like this, haven't you? Standing beside me quietly. Protecting me without asking for anything in return."
Mo Shan lowers his gaze. "I never expected you to notice."
"But I did," Lin Yue replies.
He steps closer, the golden light beneath his skin pulsing warmly.
"You believed in me when I doubted myself," Lin Yue continues. "You didn't love me for my power—you loved me even when I was afraid of it."
Mo Shan's breath catches.
"That's why…" Lin Yue reaches out and gently takes Mo Shan's hand, "…I can't reject your feelings."
Mo Shan freezes. "Lin Yue… are you sure?"
Lin Yue nods. "I am."
"I accept you," Lin Yue says clearly. "And the love you've given me."
Emotion flashes across Mo Shan's face—relief, disbelief, gratitude—all at once.
Before he can speak, a familiar presence fills the cave.
Feng Lihan stands at the entrance.
He doesn't look angry.
He doesn't look cold.
He looks calm—too calm—like someone who has already prepared himself for pain.
"I heard everything," Feng Lihan says quietly.
Lin Yue stiffens. "Feng Lihan—"
"It's fine," Feng Lihan interrupts, stepping closer. His gaze shifts briefly to their joined hands, then returns to Lin Yue's face. "I won't pretend it doesn't hurt. But I won't control your heart either."
Mo Shan immediately releases Lin Yue's hand and steps back. "If this causes conflict between you two, I can leave—"
"No," Feng Lihan says firmly. "This isn't about you stepping away."
He turns fully to Lin Yue. "Look at me."
Lin Yue does.
Feng Lihan raises a hand and gently cups Lin Yue's cheek, his touch steady but tender. "Say what's in your heart."
Lin Yue swallows hard.
"I know I accepted Mo Shan," Lin Yue says softly. "But Feng Lihan… for me, you come first."
Feng Lihan's fingers still.
"You are my husband," Lin Yue continues, voice trembling but sincere. "You are my home. No matter how complicated things become, you are the one I choose first."
He places his hand over Feng Lihan's chest. "Here."
Mo Shan looks away, giving them space, even though his chest aches.
Feng Lihan closes his eyes briefly.
When he opens them again, his gaze is raw, unguarded.
"If you hadn't said that," Feng Lihan murmurs, "I would have smiled and stepped aside."
Lin Yue leans into his touch. "I needed you to hear it."
Feng Lihan lowers his forehead to Lin Yue's. "Then I accept it," he whispers. "Your truth. Your heart. And Mo Shan's place beside us."
The golden light beneath Lin Yue's skin flares gently, filling the cave with warmth.
Mo Shan watches quietly.
Even if he is not first…
He is chosen.
And beyond the cave, unseen and patient, fate shifts once more.
