Chapter 18 - The Academy Breaks Apart and the World Reacts

Dragon Apex Academy didn't explode.

It didn't collapse.

It simply… lost its reason to stay together.

Floating continents began drifting away from each other like they had forgotten they were ever connected.

Sky bridges dissolved into light.

Entire training arenas flickered out of existence mid-rotation.

The Academy wasn't being destroyed.

It was being unregistered from reality's structure.

Lin Z stood on a fractured platform as it slowly rotated in open void.

Scrappy sat on his shoulder.

Still small.

Still warm.

Still absurdly calm for something that had just triggered the rewriting of existence.

"Snee."

A tiny flame popped out.

Lin Z exhaled. "Yeah. Same reaction from me, honestly."

Above them, Kael Draven slowly got back to his feet.

His serpent-dragon had shrunk back into a weakened state, no longer radiating cosmic pressure just exhaustion.

Kael looked around.

"…The Academy is dissolving."

Lyra floated down beside him, her ice beast fading into shards of light.

"This isn't destruction," she said quietly. "It's rejection."

Kael frowned. "Rejection by what?"

Lyra looked upward.

"…By the system itself."

Lin Z overheard that and sighed.

"So what now? We get expelled from reality?"

Scrappy blinked.

"…Possibly."

Lin Z nodded. "Cool. Love that for us."

Then

A distant sound echoed across the broken sky.

Not an alarm.

Not a warning.

A broadcast.

Every surviving student, every remaining beast, every fragment of Academy structure froze.

Because the sound wasn't coming from within the Academy anymore.

It was coming from outside the world.

A massive projection appeared in the sky.

Not a system window.

Not a UI.

A planetary-scale transmission.

And a voice followed.

Cold.

Formal.

Controlled.

"GLOBAL REALM NOTICE."

Silence.

Even the void seemed to listen.

"Dragon Apex Academy has undergone systemic anomaly collapse."

A pause.

"Cause: Sovereign-class interference event."

Another pause.

"Primary subject identified: Lin Z."

Lin Z blinked.

"…Oh come on."

Scrappy sneezed softly.

SNEE—BOOF

A tiny fire popped out mid-announcement.

The broadcast continued.

"Secondary subject identified: Chaos Sovereign Drake Fragment."

Kael stiffened instantly.

Lyra whispered, "The entire world knows now…"

The projection expanded.

And suddenly

Millions of smaller screens appeared across the sky.

Across continents.

Across kingdoms.

Across entire realms.

Everyone was watching.

Every faction.

Every empire.

Every hidden sect.

Every system user.

The world had just turned its attention toward one place.

Lin Z scratched his head.

"So… I'm famous now?"

Scrappy nodded.

"…Extremely."

A new voice joined the broadcast.

This one was different.

Older.

Heavier.

More intelligent.

"We confirm multiple Sovereign-level distortions have been detected across reality layers."

A pause.

"The First Error has re-emerged in partial form."

The world went silent again.

Kael's expression changed.

"…First Error?"

Lyra's voice dropped.

"That's not supposed to be in circulation…"

Lin Z frowned.

"Okay, I'm gonna be honest," he muttered. "I'm starting to miss when my biggest problem was a level 1 rat."

Scrappy sneezed proudly.

SNEE—FWOOM

A small flame turned into a miniature spatial crack for half a second.

Lin Z slowly turned his head.

"…Did you just break air?"

Scrappy blinked innocently.

The broadcast continued.

"All nations are hereby notified."

"Sovereign Fragment containment priority: MAXIMUM."

"Reward authorization: SYSTEM CORE ACCESS GRANTED TO CAPTURE TEAM."

Silence.

Then

The world erupted.

Not physically.

Politically.

Across the skies, portals opened everywhere.

Massive fleets.

Beast legions.

Flying fortresses.

Ancient sect ships.

Royal dragon orders.

Hidden guilds.

All responding instantly.

Not slowly.

Not cautiously.

Immediately mobilizing.

Kael looked up at the sky full of incoming portals.

"…They're all coming."

Lyra nodded. "Every faction in existence."

Kael exhaled.

"And they all want the same thing."

He looked at Lin Z.

"And the same target."

Lin Z stared at the incoming armies.

"…You know," he said slowly, "this is starting to feel personal."

Scrappy tilted his head.

"…It is."

Lin Z sighed. "Of course it is."

Then

The broadcast shifted again.

A final message appeared.

"First Contact Directive Issued."

"All Sovereign-affiliated anomalies will be retrieved."

A pause.

Longer this time.

Then

"Lin Z."

Lin Z blinked.

"…Yeah?"

The voice didn't answer him directly.

It continued:

"You are not the fragment."

Silence.

"You are the anchor it chose."

Scrappy went still.

Very still.

For the first time since awakening.

He looked… uncertain.

Lin Z frowned.

"…Anchor?"

The voice ended the broadcast.

But left one final message across the sky:

"You cannot be separated without collapsing the bond."

"Therefore…"

A pause.

"Both will be taken."

The skies darkened.

Not weather.

Not atmosphere.

But arrival pressure.

The first fleets entered orbit.

Massive silhouettes blocking stars.

Weapons charging.

Beast roars echoing across dimensions.

Kael stepped forward.

"…We're about to become the most hunted beings in existence."

Lyra nodded slowly.

"Yes."

Then she looked at Lin Z.

"…So what do you do now?"

Lin Z looked at Scrappy.

Scrappy looked back.

No fear.

No hesitation.

Just understanding.

Then

Scrappy sneezed.

BOOM

A nearby mountain fragment turned into dust.

Lin Z smiled faintly.

"…Yeah."

He cracked his neck.

"We run."

A pause.

Then he added:

"After we take a couple of them down first."

Above them, the first fleet fired.

The sky turned white with descending destruction.

Scrappy's eyes glowed gold-black.

Lin Z stepped forward.

And for the first time

He didn't feel like a victim of the system anymore.

He felt like a problem it couldn't solve.
