Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: Jate's two faces

What makes a human truly human are emotions—respect, compassion, and patience.

When these qualities fade from within, a human turns into a monster—

a creature beyond empathy, drowned in endless ego and darkness,

a cruel beast stripped of humanity.

Today, a truth was about to surface.

A truth powerful enough to shake Siya to her core.

Ali noticed her silence and asked gently,

"Boss… are you troubled by what happened yesterday?"

Siya replied calmly,

"No, I'm not troubled. I'm just thinking… I don't want to put the entire world in danger for the sake of one lone monster. Even if I kill him, he will end up where he belongs—and there, his deeds will be judged by those greater than us."

Ali nodded.

"You're right, Boss. Don't overthink it. Do what feels right to you."

Yet Siya looked weary.

After crossing so many obstacles, her mind felt exhausted. One thought kept repeating inside her—stop now… let go… be free.

But while her mind whispered surrender, her heart restrained her.

This battle is your responsibility, her conscience reminded her.

One who turns away from responsibility does not deserve to live. You gave your word to the Divine. You cannot escape it, even if you wish to.

Suddenly, a faint voice tore through the air and reached her ears.

"Siya… Siya… I'll tell you everything. Just stop. I can't endure this anymore."

It was George.

Siya walked toward him slowly.

"Speak," she said. "What do you want to tell me?"

He gasped.

"First… reduce this. Ease my pain."

With a simple gesture, Siya lessened his suffering. George inhaled deeply, as if life itself had been returned to him, and then spoke:

"It was Jate… your first and last love.

He was the one who protected you every moment, from every danger."

Siya's face showed no shock—no emotion at all. She stood still, silent, as though she had already sensed this truth long ago.

George continued,

"I don't know why he never told you the truth. Maybe he feared that once you learned who he really was, you would begin to hate him… or push him away forever because he had taken my form."

Siya finally spoke, her voice calm, unwavering.

"So? That doesn't earn him forgiveness for what he did. If he was alive, he could still be a danger to the world. Perhaps helping me was his way of seeking redemption—but redemption does not erase sins."

George smiled faintly.

"Still… it hasn't crossed your mind, has it—"

Siya cut him off sharply.

"If Jate was with me… then who is the one spreading such devastation across the world?"

Her eyes hardened.

"Jate's imposter."

George nodded slowly.

"Yes. But now ask yourself—

who is truly the imposter causing this destruction?

The one who looks like Jate…

or the one who stayed beside you… who was Jate?"

The question hung in the air like a blade, sharp and merciless.

And for the first time, even Siya felt the weight of doubt press against her soul.
