Chapter 94: The Ancient Sentinel and the Awakening of the Earth
The party stood before the cavernous maw of the "Foggy Cave," a legendary site that had been whispered about in Academy myths for generations. As the first amber rays of dawn finally broke over the jagged mountain peaks, the thick, unnatural mist that guarded the entrance began to swirl violently, as if reacting to the light.
The air smelled of ozone, ancient dampness, and something far more sinister—the scent of dormant, primeval magic that had been locked away for a millennium. Aki, shivering in his damp silk robes, tried to wring out his sleeves with shaking hands. "Von, I've had my fair share of close calls, but this place... it feels like the mountain itself is holding its breath. Can't we just find a nice, quiet tavern and pretend we never found this hole in the ground?"
Before Von (Volt) could respond, the earth groaned. A sound like grinding boulders echoed through the valley, and the ground beneath their feet trembled. From the shifting curtains of mist, a massive figure emerged. It was a Stone Golem, nearly twenty feet tall, its body carved from the same dark bedrock as the mountain. Moss-covered cracks ran across its chest, and its eyes glowed with a dull, menacing yellow light.
"A Golem? At this altitude?" Rena gasped, her hands instinctively glowing with embers of defensive magic. "This isn't a natural construct. It's a Sentinel. Someone—or something—bound it here to keep everyone out."
The Golem raised a colossal stone fist, its movement slow but carrying the weight of several tons. With a deafening roar that sounded like a landslide, it slammed its fist into the earth. The impact sent a shockwave that knocked Aki off his feet.
"Help! My ankles! I'm too young and handsome to be crushed by a walking statue!" Aki shrieked, scrambling behind Sai's massive tower shield for safety.
Sai braced himself, his boots sinking into the dirt as he absorbed the vibration. "Von, I can't hold a block against something that big for long. If that fist hits my shield directly, I'll be buried waist-deep in the ground!"
Von stepped forward, his silhouette dark against the rising sun. He didn't draw the Void Reaper yet; he knew the ringing of steel against such dense stone would only dull his blade. Instead, he closed his eyes and focused on the flickering red light of the System.

"Aki, Sai, Rena—stand back," Von commanded, his voice cold and steady. He didn't use fire or ice. He reached into the void of his own mana and activated a skill he had been suppressing since his reincarnation: 'Gravity Crush'.
With a sudden, downward snap of his fingers, the atmospheric pressure around the Golem shifted. The air became thick, heavy, and suffocating. The Golem, which had been preparing for another strike, suddenly froze. Its massive stone knees buckled under an invisible, overwhelming weight. The sound of stone cracking filled the air as the Golem was forced into a kneeling position, its body creating a massive crater in the path.
"Now! Into the cave!" Von shouted.
As the party sprinted past the incapacitated titan, Aki's sharp eyes caught a glimpse of something sparkling on the Golem's shoulder—a glowing blue crystal that acted as its power source. Without stopping his run, Aki performed a mid-air tumble, his fingers brushing against the cold surface of the gem. With a swift flick of his wrist, he snatched the crystal clean off the Golem's body.
"Aki! You fool! Put it back!" Rena yelled as they entered the darkness of the tunnel. "That crystal is the only thing keeping the mountain's mana stable!"
"Relax, Lady Rena!" Aki yelled back, grinning as he tucked the gem into his inner pocket. "Think of it as a 'security deposit.' Besides, a thief never leaves a job empty-handed, even if the job involves almost getting flattened by a mountain!"
Behind them, the Golem let out one final, hollow groan before its stone body crumbled into a pile of lifeless rubble, blocking the entrance behind them and sealing them in the dark.
Von looked into the pitch-black tunnel ahead, his crimson eyes providing the only light. "The entrance is gone. There is only one way now—deeper.".
