298 AC
Following her departure from Qarth on the South East trading ships, Daenerys Targaryen, accompanied by her Dothraki bloodriders, Ser Jorah Mormont, and her young dragons, sailed towards Pentos.
However, Ser Jorah persuaded her to divert to Astapor in Slaver's Bay. Jorah argued that she could not conquer the Iron Throne without an army, and Astapor was world-renowned for producing the Unsullied, elite eunuch slave-soldiers known for their total obedience, lack of fear, and unmatched discipline.
Upon arrival, Daenerys was immediately sickened by the city, known as the "Red City" due to its construction from red brick. The city was a monument to slavery, built upon the blood of countless victims. The streets were filled with misery, and the slaves were treated with subhuman cruelty.
She was introduced to Kraznys mo Nakloz, one of the so called "Good Masters" of Astapor, who managed the sale of the Unsullied.
Kraznys was arrogant and insulting, speaking to Daenerys in High Valyrian, assuming she did not understand his language and only heard his words through his slave-translator, Missandei.
Kraznys constantly referred to Daenerys as "bitch" or "whore" while praising the virtues of his product to which the Targaryen queen understood all but well. Daenerys, however harbored her anger and waited for the right moment.
While inspecting the Unsullied, she saw them standing completely still for hours in the scorching sun, unmoving even when whipped.
She was horrified to learn that they were trained by being forced to kill puppies as children to prove their lack of emotion. Despite her disgust, she felt the necessity of this army to take back her home.
Kraznys offered to sell her 8,000 Unsullied, plus all the young boys still in training approximately another 5,000 . However, the Good Masters demanded an impossible price, they waall her ships which she did not really own, her goods stolen from Qarth, and her largest dragon, Drogon.
Jorah Mormont and Ser Barristan Selmy who had revealed his identity after saving her from a manticore assassination attempt earlier argued against the deal, particularly the loss of a dragon. But Daenerys was adamant. She knew that with such a massive, skilled army, she could free all of Slaver's Bay and even take the throne of Westeros.
She agreed to the deal, promising to hand over Drogon in the Plaza of Punishment where she had witnessed the horrific "Walk of Punishment" the following day.
On the day of the exchange, Daenerys and her entourage arrived in the Plaza of Punishment, where the Good Masters stood, arrogant and triumphant. Kraznys formally transferred ownership of the 8,000 Unsullied to Daenerys by handing her the "harpy's fingers," a nine-lashed whip that represented control over the soldiers.
In exchange, Kraznys demanded Drogon, who was held in a litter. Kraznys attempted to grab the dragon, who became vicious and defiant. Kraznys complained that the dragon was not obeying him.
At this moment, Daenerys revealed her hand. She spoke to Kraznys in perfect, fluid High Valyrian, chilling him with the revelation that she understood every insult he had uttered. She then informed him that a dragon is not a slave, and thus cannot be bought.
She turned to the Unsullied and spoke to them in their own tongue, freeing them from their bondage and giving them a new command. In a dramatic display of power, she looked at the Good Masters and uttered her now-iconic command.
"Drogon! Dracarys!".
Drogon unleashed a torrent of fire, incinerating Kraznys mo Nakloz. Simultaneously, Daenerys ordered the Unsullied to "slay the masters, slay the soldiers, slay every man who holds a whip, but harm no child."
The result was a total massacre of the Astapori leadership. The Unsullied, who were unmatched in close-quarters combat, easily decimated the local, inferior guards. The city was sacked, and the slaves were freed, with many turning on their former masters. The "Fall of Astapor" was swift and brutal, with the city's red brick walls truly painted with the blood of its masters.
Immediately following the battle, Daenerys freed the Unsullied, telling them they were no longer slaves and could go wherever they wished. However, she offered them the choice to fight for her as free men.
And through it all the spies of Domeric recorded the events of what transpired to take this news back to their master
