1 Gold Dragon = 210 Silver Stags = 11,760 Copper Pennies
1 Silver Stag = 7 Copper Stars = 56 Copper Pennies
1 Copper Star = 8 Copper Pennies
70 tons would be sold for approximately 7560 silver stags. And if we were to put it in Gold Dragons then it would mean approximately 36 Gold dragons. A bit small yes but we had to understand that the regular peasant wouldn't ever earn a gold coin in his entire much less have 100 silver stags. Among the peasantry only copper and rarely silver was exchanged.
The grain business wasn't the most profitable especially from a standpoint where you couldn't grow as much due to less arable land and bad weather then their was the issue of it being a competitive market, we still made our money back nonetheless through other exports.
With our most profitable exports being our ores, steel, furs, gems, ice and lumber. Oak wood trees brought in money good money and our steel had had found its place on the market for its quantities and quality.
Then there came the furs and the Ice. Especially the Ice.
The typical Ice block measuring 10 by five was sold for 110 silver stags which weighed 200 lbs. And we had to wade further north along lakes to cut these blocks before packing them properly with hay and leathers for shipment.
If I remembered correctly our annual exports for Ice was 550 tons with Manderly shipping and our own ships doing the levying between , Bravos , Pentos , Myr, Tyrosh , Gulltown, Dorne and even kings landing among a many other towns and cities along the westerosi and essosi western coasts.
The profits from this endeavor was well over 2 million in silver and putting that in gold was approximately over 540,000 gold dragons.
Paying off latter debts owed. Buying and commissioning more trade ships and with crews. Building more mines and creating more tools, equipment and medieval machinery for construction and agricultural.Paying the workers and buying resources which we didn't have locally , all of this would see half of this going back into the land. And the other half into my coffers.
All in all I had made back my money I spent within two years of initial investment and there was still more to make.
I had over 31 ships now and another 15 on the way . Almost matching the Manderly's 80 trading ships.
They also had a considerable military fleet which was consisted of over 40 ships. A good amount , no lord besides the manderly could openly boast about their ships as most didn't really have much if any at all besides few trading vessels that couldn't travel across open seas and had to stick to skimming the coasts.
In contrast the bolton shipping fleet was making waves, the more money we earned the more we ships we could buy , the more we could invest into the land , its infrastructure, industry and its people. To which profits would overtime be generated back two golds.
Call it luck or whatever, but I was now the second richest man this far north. And I without a doubt would soon overtake lord Manderly.
Perhaps I was among the youngest and richest lords in westeros and i meant by personal wealth alone.
I was of course turning 22 this year and by the the next three years Ned Stark would host the king where the fat monarch would declare him the new hand of the king.
I met lord Stark before at winterfell as I was summoned to resolve the ongoing disputes at that time with lord Karstark and umber over peasant migration and border violations, one of our mines had been on lord umbers lands and he wanted claim of it especially after we did all of the work in digging its shafts and bringing in equipment. I told him we wouldn't give it freely and especially with all we invested , the large man thinking me green and inept at ruling and even as a fighter thought he would cow me down but I wouldn't back down from a war if that was what he wanted , but being the businessman I was . I offered to lease the mine and its area around it for 100 dragons a month or we take ever stick lumber and stone that kept the mine shafts holding up which would lead to a collapse and then and only then. Would they get their mines back.
Lord Stark being the mediator between us two had brokered and witnessed this deal but instead of a hundred dragons a moon I had to pay 110 It was a iron and gemstone mine after all.
Lord Karstark on the other hand complained about us traversing through his lands to cut ice without paying proper taxes and also taking his small folk.
Jealous men wanting to make money but didn't know any other way than to tax someone else to fill their coffers. Well they were my neighbors and it didn't help my reputation to be enemies of them but some of their sons had proven to be better allies than their stubborn fathers.
Nonetheless these instances of tension hadn't stopped them from shamelessly putting forth their daughters or nieces for marriages.
