Chapter 107 The Final Result of the Special Exam
The seventh day of camping was also the final day. At noon, the end of the special exam would be announced. However, at this final juncture, Class D was in an uproar again.
"I'm so hungry..."
"Should we redeem some points for breakfast?" Yamauchi and the others suggested.
According to the plan originally established by Horikita Suzune, points were only to be redeemed for two meals—lunch and dinner; breakfast was to be obtained through foraging for wild vegetables, fruit, or fishing. However, because of the heavy rain yesterday, the class's food-gathering activities were interrupted. As a result, they woke up this morning with nothing to eat.
"Everyone, just endure it for a bit. The end of the exam will be announced at noon," Yukimura Teruhiko said, adjusting his glasses.
"No! I can't take it, I'm dizzy from hunger!" Shinohara Satsuki lay powerlessly across the wooden table.
"Shinohara-san, are you alright?" Kushida Kikyou supported the latter with a look of concern, while inwardly cursing: Serves you right! You only ate a tiny bit for dinner last night just to lose weight—why don't you just starve to death!
"Horikita... er, Horikita-san isn't here."
During the week of camping, Horikita Suzune had managed the team selflessly as the leader, earning the trust of most. Finding that she was absent, they had to settle for the next best thing and looked toward the class's only certified "nice guy."
"Hirata, what do you think we should do?"
"We can't just let everyone go hungry, can we?" Shinohara Satsuki looked at Hirata Yousuke with a pleading face.
"Everyone, please calm down." Hirata Yousuke's heart softened. "I feel that everyone's health is more important than the exam. I agree to redeem points for breakfast."
Seeing that the exam was nearly over, Class D had spent another precious 10 points. Ayanokouji Kiyotaka's expression was not good.
He had sacrificed his personal reputation and made so many secret arrangements to push Class D forward, yet this group of "pig teammates" simply couldn't be carried!
Besides, if it weren't for Chabashira-sensei threatening him with expulsion, Ayanokouji wouldn't have lifted a finger in the first place.
"As expected of Class D, quite willful."
Hikigaya watched the whole scene coldly; he had never held a shred of expectation for this class anyway. Let them do whatever they wanted!
After enjoying a meal of breakfast, the students of Class D sat and waited for the exam to end. At high noon, the conclusion of the exam was declared. Classes A, B, C, and D gathered on the coast.
Unlike the other three classes who were in large groups, Class C's area had only two people: Ibuki Mio and Manabe Shiho.
"Wow! Manabe-chan, how did you get hurt?" Yamauchi and the others looked with concern at the bruised and swollen Manabe Shiho.
"Ayanokouji! You lied to me!!"
At this moment, Manabe Shiho was glaring at Ayanokouji Kiyotaka with a face full of resentment, looking exactly like a girl who had been deceived by a scumbag.
She had learned from Ryuen that Ayanokouji had tricked her into photographing a fake leader's name. As punishment for the mission failure, she had been brutally beaten by Ryuen!
"Sorry, Manabe-san. Given our positions in different classes, we were destined to be in opposition." Ayanokouji Kiyotaka remained expressionless.
He felt no internal stirrings regarding Manabe's miserable experience. It was clear that Ayanokouji's deliberate attempts to please her a few days ago were merely tactics used to deceive her!
"Ayanokouji, you just wait!
Sooner or later, I will settle this debt with you!!"
Manabe Shiho gritted her teeth, her eyes filled with endless hatred.
Ayanokouji Kiyotaka, however, thought nothing of it. In his view, a stupid woman with no ability and no brains like her posed absolutely no threat to him.
Hikigaya frowned from the side, thinking to himself that this guy's unscrupulous manipulation of others' feelings was truly repulsive!
"Ibuki-san, are you alright? You suddenly left yesterday without saying goodbye; everyone was worried about you."
The "goody-two-shoes" of Class B still didn't suspect Ibuki Mio even now. This caused Ibuki Mio to lose her composure a bit.
She helplessly outed herself: "You guys really are a bunch of bleeding hearts! Haven't you ever suspected me?"
"Eh? What do you mean by that?" Most of Class B were bewildered.
Only Ichinose Honami was the first to react, her face full of shock: "Ibuki-san, could it be that you really were a spy sent by Class C...?"
"Since you thought of me being a spy immediately, it seems you haven't been without suspicion before now." Ibuki Mio raised an eyebrow and continued to ask, "But why did you never try to test me?"
"Because you are Hikigaya-kun's friend." Ichinose Honami looked innocent, yet spoke with such conviction.
Because she loved the house, she loved the crow—out of unconditional trust for Hikigaya, she subconsciously felt that the people around Hikigaya were all good people.
"..."
This left Ibuki Mio speechless, unsure of how to react for a moment.
She suddenly had a strange sense of deja vu—as if she had won the exam but lost at life!
Class A watched the entire time with cold indifference.
"Heh! Those guys in Class B and Class D didn't even realize a spy had infiltrated. What a bunch of fools!" Yahiko mocked.
"That is where the gap lies. Victory belongs only to our Class A!!"
Seeing that victory was right before his eyes, even the usually steady Katsuragi Kohei couldn't help but let his lips curl upward!
"For the final leader guessing segment, please fill out the forms and hand them to your respective homeroom teachers." Mashima-sensei's voice echoed over the broadcast.
In Class D, Hirata Yousuke received the paper. On it were simply the four classes and four blank spaces for names.
"Should we guess?
Guessing one correctly is a 50-point reward!"
"Why don't you mention that a wrong guess results in a 50-point deduction?"
"Wealth is found in risk—don't you understand that?"
Honestly... Hikigaya thought. These "god-tier" people could find a way to argue about anything!
Hirata Yousuke held the paper, caught in a dilemma once again, unsure of what to do. Hikigaya directly snatched the paper away, casually wrote the name "Totsuka Yahiko" in the Class A leader column, and handed it straight to Chabashira-sensei.
"Hey!"
"Hikigaya, who gave you the right to decide on your own?"
"If the guess is wrong, will you take responsibility?" Yamauchi and the others shouted their accusations.
However, rather than targeting Hikigaya's act of making a decision, they were more inclined to target Hikigaya himself for being an outlier!
"If it's wrong, I'll take responsibility. But what if it's right? Will you transfer the rewarded individual points to me?"
Hikigaya's nonchalant sentence shut Yamauchi and the others up instantly.
"You have no talent, yet all you do is talk nonsense. Aside from adding trouble, you guys really are of no use whatsoever!"
Hikigaya mocked them without mercy. At the same time, he was telling the truth; during these few days of camping, Yamauchi and the others had provided no positive value to the class—they were purely a negative!
Under the watchful eyes of everyone, Mashima-sensei, acting as the chief examiner, stepped onto the stage with a megaphone.
"First, I would like to congratulate you all on successfully passing this special exam. These seven days of living on a deserted island will surely become an unforgettable memory in your lives. Now, I shall announce the results of this special exam..."
