Chapter 103: Ultimate Burst!
To avoid suspicion later, Mason planned to wait until Donovan confirmed receipt of the goods before making his move.
Now that Donovan had seen through his identity, Mason didn't hesitate—he opened fire and went straight for the grab.
"BLAM BLAM BLAM!"
The large-caliber hand cannon roared in Mason's grip, sending the unsuspecting Donovan flying five or six meters backward, crashing into a nearby pile of scrap metal.
Mason ripped off his tactical coat and fired at Cade, who was turning to flee. The first shot struck the metal debris at Cade's feet, sending shrapnel flying and disrupting his escape.
The second shot hit his elbow, severing Cade's arm clean off, and the metal case he was carrying clattered to the ground.
Although it was dark, Mason could see sparks dancing from the severed wound through his night-vision goggles.
Even as he processed this, his hands didn't stop. He fired two more shots into Cade's lower back, tearing half his torso to shreds. As the synthetic skin peeled back, chunks of metal endoskeleton were exposed at the wound.
This guy was a Terminator-class android!
Mason didn't know Cade's exact model, only recognizing him as some kind of advanced combat synthetic.
The military-grade androids produced by Cyberdyne Systems were extremely lethal. Their chassis were heavily modified, fitted with numerous prohibited military-grade weapons, and when operating at full capacity, they were simply incomparable to flesh and blood.
Having gained the upper hand, Mason naturally showed no mercy, frantically squeezing the trigger and unleashing a torrent of lead.
The back of the skull, spinal column, and areas where the power core might be housed were all riddled with bullets.
The android on the ground was shredded like a tin can, but even so, he hadn't lost mobility. The remaining titanium endoskeleton within peeled away, forming a mechanical spider the size of a hubcap, which rapidly skittered toward the metal case.
"Crunch!"
Mason stomped on the mechanical spider, crushing it into scrap. He pulled the trigger, blasting the android into a pile of twisted metal.
"CRASH!"
A loud crash erupted from the nearby trash heap, and a figure burst out—it was Donovan.
His designer clothes were shredded, blood trickled from his mouth, and his chest was scorched black, revealing a piece of Stark Industries chest armor shattered into dozens of fragments. Without that armor, Donovan would've been dead ten times over.
"Bastard!"
"You dare shoot me!"
"Do you know who I am?"
Mason fired two rounds in rapid succession at Donovan.
Donovan covered his chest with his forearms and somehow activated some device. A dazzling light burst from his wrist-mounted emitters, forming a thick, almost tangible energy barrier in front of him.
Although energy shields were less effective against ballistic weapons, the shield Donovan deployed was practically solid.
Energy barriers of this caliber simply weren't available to civilians. They were either decommissioned military hardware or black market high-end tech—each representing a fortune.
"Tough as a damn tank."
Several shots fired in quick succession, but Donovan effortlessly deflected them all, though his energy shield weakened considerably.
"Bastard, die!"
Being relentlessly pounded by Mason, Donovan—with his bloated ego—had never suffered such humiliation. He roared, charging straight at Mason with explosive speed.
The force he'd just displayed could've punched through a brick wall.
Mason dodged sideways, rapidly reloading mid-movement. He twisted his body, firing a horizontal barrage.
"WHOOSH!"
A whistling sound followed as the gun was knocked away by tremendous force, flying from his hand. Mason landed, rolled, and used a nearby discarded metal bench as a shield. The clanging of
metal on metal
made Mason's ears ring. The bench was smashed and deformed, and Mason crouched low, his body instinctively compacting.
Mason didn't even have time to equip his combat gauntlets. Donovan, charging at him like a rabid animal, was wielding a two-meter metal pipe, swinging it down relentlessly. In just a few blows, he'd warped the bench in Mason's grip.
"You dare hurt me?"
His opponent's strength matched his own, and his technique was extremely refined. This was the most dangerous opponent Mason had encountered since receiving the super-soldier serum injection.
Seeing that the metal bench in his hands was about to shatter, leaving him with no defense—if Donovan connected, he'd inevitably suffer broken bones.
Mason gritted his teeth. He roared, surged upward abruptly, and with a powerful thrust of his arms, the metal bench in his grip broke with a piercing screech.
As Donovan's pipe was about to crack Mason's skull, a bloodthirsty gleam appeared in Donovan's eyes. Behind the boundless killing intent lurked a trace of jealousy and resentment.
He suddenly remembered the private gym at Wayne Manor, where Bruce Wayne had mentioned Mason's physical data, and seeing that Mason's strength was now nearly identical to his own.
Thinking of the price and agony he'd paid to obtain that augmented power, he couldn't help the madness rising in his heart.
It seemed that only by destroying and crushing Mason could he alleviate the jealousy consuming him.
In a flash, Mason abandoned defense with his right hand and swung it downward, while his left arm actively rose to intercept.
"CLANG!"
His left wrist guard collided with Donovan's metal pipe, producing a sound like hammer on anvil.
"Trying to block my full-force swing with one hand?" Donovan grinned maliciously, his augmented muscles tensing as he unleashed maximum output.
And in that moment, using the momentum of his right hand's swing, when Mason raised it again, his palm was already encased in a metallic combat gauntlet. He gripped Donovan's pipe with his right hand and yanked it back forcefully.
"Limit Break!"
he roared, activating the overload capacity of his bio-battery.
"VMMMMM!" A humming vibration reached his ears. The instant the bio-battery activated, Mason felt as if the entire world had slowed down.
His heart hammered wildly, and powerful energy suddenly surged from the battery core. Under the impact of this energy, his muscles swelled, and his senses became incredibly sharp. Without needing diagnostics, he knew his current physical output was definitely above 3.3.
Explosive power erupted from his arms, and under Mason's pull, Donovan's body lurched forward uncontrollably. Mason's body surged forward like a predatory animal.
He flexed his left arm slightly, instantly equipping it with a matching gauntlet.
Donovan crossed his forearms, apparently intending to activate the energy shield emitters, but he'd only completed half the gesture when he saw an iron fist break through layers of defense and slam into his sternum.
"GAHK!" Donovan spat out a mouthful of blood, followed by a barrage of punches hammering down on him.
He barely managed to parry a couple of blows before being completely overwhelmed by Mason's ferocious assault.
"Impossible! This is impossible! I, Donovan, am going to become an Avenger!" Resentment and rage consumed his mind.
Unfortunately, in the face of absolute power, everything became meaningless.
Let's push the story forward!
