Chapter 100: Lure the Snake Out of Its Hole
Mason was contemplating how to obtain the energy compound when Donnie continued,
"This case uses the most advanced mechanical technology from Laimi Corporation. Each case has only one key. Once you reach the designated area, the case will automatically unlock as long as you're close enough to the recipient."
"After a successful match, you can hand over the cargo to the recipient."
"So the key is in the recipient's hands?" Mason asked. Donnie nodded.
"This shipment is extremely valuable, so you must follow the designated route to the delivery location. At each checkpoint, the case's built-in scanning device will perform on-site analysis and then guide you to the next location."
This storage case manufactured by Laimi Corporation could only be opened with one specific key. Forcibly opening it would trigger the internal mechanical structure, which would then automatically lock. Attempting to open it again would activate a self-destruct mechanism, destroying the contents inside.
However, faced with such a valuable treasure, many people would still take the risk. By constantly updating the route through the case, the possibility of theft by the courier was greatly reduced.
The routes were updated in real-time, and apart from the recipient, the runner transporting the goods didn't know the exact path. If he tried to steal the package, the case would automatically send out a warning signal if he deviated from the route, and the runner would be caught immediately.
"Understood. When do I leave?" Mason nodded.
"Right now!"
"So soon?"
Donnie pointed to the address on the table. "This is the first location you need to reach. After you get there, you'll receive the next target location."
"This deal is crucial. If you handle it well, you could take over my position before you know it." Donnie said with a self-satisfied expression.
The metal case was completely silver-white, smooth as a mirror, and from the outside, you couldn't see a single seam—it appeared to be one solid piece.
Mason took the case in his hand, and two metal half-rings suddenly extended from the sides, snapping onto his wrists with a click.
"Boss Donnie, what's the meaning of this?" Mason frowned.
"Don't worry—once you deliver the cargo to the designated location, the recipient can unlock it with the key," Donnie explained. "This is just to prevent unnecessary loss."
Although Mason suspected Donnie might not be telling the complete truth, it wasn't the time to confront him yet. He said nothing more, feigned compliance, and prepared to leave.
Carrying a gleaming metal case alone was rather conspicuous, so Mason found a large black cloak and wrapped himself completely.
He pushed open the door to Donnie's office. The sky was a fiery red as the sun set, and darkness gradually descended.
The first address Donnie had given wasn't too far away, and Mason arrived at his destination quickly.
It was a densely populated residential district. Mason didn't drive in—he parked the vehicle to the side, and the metal case in his hand vibrated.
He unwrapped the tattered cloth covering it and found a 3D map on the smooth surface of the metal case, marking the next location and providing the corresponding route.
The new location was displayed, but Mason didn't rush to start the vehicle. He activated his communication device, connected with Martin, and whispered, "Begin!"
After ending the call, he sat in the vehicle for another five minutes. His device then displayed an incoming call from Donnie.
"As expected, there's real-time monitoring," Mason muttered softly, answering the call after about ten seconds.
"What happened? You've been stuck in one location for a full five minutes without moving!" Donnie's face was dark on the screen, his eyes narrowed as he scrutinized Mason.
Mason feigned panic. "Boss Donnie, something's wrong! There's a serious problem at the Blackwater Street base!"
"Everything else can wait. You need to deliver the cargo now. We'll deal with everything else when you get back!" Donnie's expression softened slightly.
"Boss Donnie, this really can't wait!" Mason said rapidly, simultaneously sending Donnie a photograph.
"Martin just found a body in the basement of the Blackwater Street headquarters. The body is already decomposed, but he told me the deceased is Michelin, the younger brother of the Blood Source Society's leader, Lionheart!"
"Looks like he was killed by Mad Dog Johnny!"
"What!" Donnie's expression changed dramatically. He knew Lionheart well and understood the importance of his brother in Lionheart's eyes.
If Lionheart discovered his brother had died on Donnie's territory, the old and new grudges combined would enrage Lionheart, and he would definitely launch a war against the Gear Gang without hesitation.
"That damned mad dog!" Donnie cursed angrily.
"Who else knows about this?"
"Besides Martin, at least four or five other members!"
Donnie's face was grim. In reality, that was no different from everyone knowing.
"Boss Donnie, should we have Chris or Gerald handle this for me? At least control the situation and prevent this from spreading. The Blackwater Street area has been crawling with Lionheart's people lately—he's frantically searching for his brother!"
"No, absolutely not!"
"Chris and Gerald aren't entirely trustworthy!" Donnie frowned and coldly refused.
"Then how about George handles it?" Mason suggested.
"He can't manage this situation!"
Donnie's voice was filled with murderous intent. If this wasn't handled properly, it could destabilize the entire district.
Donnie was clearly prepared for a purge. Given his suspicious nature, everyone who found Michelin's body would have to die.
There were over a dozen Gear Gang members stationed at the Blackwater Street base. If even one escaped, it would be catastrophic.
Although George was loyal enough, his capabilities were limited, and Donnie didn't trust him with such a critical matter.
"Boss Donnie, should I return and handle it first? It'll only take an hour at most," Mason suggested.
Of all times for this to happen! This was why Donnie couldn't help but curse.
In fact, after Mad Dog Johnny's death, Mason had become one of Donnie's most trusted lieutenants.
If he wanted to remove Donnie from his safe zone, Mason needed to find a reason that would absolutely require his personal presence.
Ironically, this opportunity was provided by Donnie himself.
"Forget it—you don't need to worry about this!" Donnie's face darkened. "You need to leave that location immediately and complete your delivery. That's your primary objective!"
"But what about Blackwater Street..."
"Don't worry about it—I'll handle it myself!" Donnie's bloodshot eyes hardened as he made his decision.
He decided to personally deal with this mess!
"Perfect!"
After disconnecting the call, Mason clenched his fist. The trap was set, and all that remained was for the show to begin!
