Chapter 57 - Chapter 57: Super Agent, Mason

Chapter 57: Super Agent, Mason

"Bang!"

An explosion rang out in an ordinary residential building on Boulevard de la République in the 11th arrondissement of Paris.

"Infiltration failed! The terrorists are on alert! They have heavy weapons and have breached the first line of defense!" A shrill scream came through the headset.

Mason, fully armed, lay in ambush in an alley outside Boulevard de la République.

Just then, a Hummer SUV tore through the blockade and appeared on the street in the distance!

"Stop him! The target is in the car—the cipher box is in his hands!" A command came through the headset. Mason was about to rush out when he saw a large man emerge from the car window. Accompanied by a flickering flash, an RPG round came screaming toward him!

"Steve, I miss your shield so much right now!" Mason murmured. If he had the vibranium shield in his hand, he really wanted to try and deflect the hit.

But now he could only think about it, pull back, and dive for cover.

Boom!

Flames shot into the sky, tearing a gap in the defensive line behind them. The other counter-terrorism team members, lacking Mason's quick reflexes and physical prowess, were blown to pieces by the blast.

"Haha, you bastards, taste my power!" A burly man leaning out of the vehicle, his face contorted with rage, threw down the launcher, raised the submachine gun slung around his neck, and unleashed a burst of fire.

"You want to chase me? In your next life!"

The explosion and the suppressive fire momentarily pinned the counter-terrorism team members down. The Humvee roared through the gap created by the blast.

Once they broke through this line, a hundred meters ahead, around a turn, and they'd be on another main street. Even if they managed to capture these thugs, the casualties and property damage would be enough to give the counter-terrorism team's leadership hell!

Smashing aside half of the police car blocking the way, the burly man quickly changed his magazine, adjusting his aim to cover the rear of the vehicle, wary of pursuit. But just then, a dark figure suddenly darted out from the side, charging toward the speeding car!

"There's someone this reckless—definitely a rookie!" The driver, a man with a full beard, wore a baseball cap askew, his face contorted with rage as he stared at the figure ahead.

"Henry, don't shoot—I'm going to run him over!" The driver's eyes gleamed with bloodlust as he floored the accelerator, ramming forward recklessly!

"That crazy fool!" The passengers laughed and cursed, their eyes wide, anticipating the sight of Mason being smashed to pieces.

"A bunch of idiots!"

The Hummer had just started moving, its speed not too high, and just as the front of the car was about to hit him, Mason leaped into the air.

He used his core strength, his body spinning rapidly in the air, and in the instant he passed the car, he grabbed the hair of the burly man whose body was sticking out of the car!

The force of the car's momentum, combined with Mason's inertia, was terrifying. Accompanied by a sickening tearing sound, the burly man's maniacal laughter came to an abrupt halt.

Mason had almost ripped his entire scalp off! Blood splattered, and in some places, even the skull was exposed!

"Damn, I grabbed the wrong spot!"

Looking at the burly man's horrifying appearance, Mason was also stunned. He had originally intended to grab the man's arm, but he misjudged the car's speed, resulting in him only grabbing the hair.

Seeing that the burly man's scalp was about to separate from his body, Mason used his other arm to grab the man's jaw. Then, with a sudden burst of strength, he pulled the burly man's body out of the car and successfully shoved him through the window.

The burly man whom Mason dragged from the car fared much worse. He was thrown into the flames behind, half his scalp still hanging on his head, and the intense heat caused him to scream in agony.

All of this happened in a mere second or two. When Mason climbed into the car through the window, the people inside were still laughing, their mouths agape.

Thump! Thump!

Mason's punches were lightning-fast, delivering two heavy blows that knocked out the thug in the back seat. With his other hand, he raised his gun and fired at the front passenger, the bullet piercing the seat and hitting the man.

Only then did he have time to aim at the driver.

"Pull over!"

The driver was still in shock and didn't react until Mason pressed the gun against his temple. He slammed on the brakes, crashing through several trash cans before coming to a stop.

"The terrorists have breached the second line of defense. Casualties are heavy. Requesting backup from headquarters! Requesting backup!" The commander's voice came through Mason's earpiece.

"The enemy has broken through the blockade and is about to enter the main road. All units, please..."

Mason picked up the radio. "Mission accomplished. Kevin Morelli captured alive. The cipher box is intact." Mason gestured for the driver to get out of the car, speaking slowly and deliberately.

"...What?"

A soft "what?" came from the radio, followed by a five-second silence.

"Agent Mason, do you know what you're saying? I know the casualties are heavy, many team members have tragically lost their lives, and I understand your feelings. You desperately want to capture the target alive, but this isn't the time..."

Mason frowned, forced to interrupt, and repeated what he had just said.

"Don't move! If you take another step forward, I'll blow your head off!" Mason stepped forward. "Come here right now, drag these idiots out of the car and tie them together!"

The commander on the radio tentatively asked, "Agent Mason, are you...?" But before he could finish speaking, a terrified voice came from the other end.

"Please, don't kill me! I pissed myself and it's cold. I don't want to escape. I'll do what you say—tie them up right now!" The burly man with the thick beard cried, almost kneeling before Mason.

He was a notorious gangster with a long list of crimes, but he had never seen anyone as terrifyingly skilled as Mason. In his hands, those vicious team members were as weak as children.

The burly man protecting Kevin in the back seat weighed at least 250 pounds, but he clearly saw in the rearview mirror that Mason smashed the guy's jaw with a single punch!

"My patience is limited—you'd better hurry!"

Only then did the commander on the radio seem to believe what Mason had said. He tentatively asked, "Agent Mason, please report your location and preserve the scene. I'll send backup immediately!"

The driver, upon hearing the voice on the radio, nearly collapsed to the ground in fright. Backup? Who needs backup?! This kind of psycho needs backup?

I'm just carrying out some small-scale terrorist activities—do you really need to send this kind of guy?

Before long, the other counter-terrorism team members who had been surrounding the area arrived at the scene. Seeing the intact Humvee and the bandits who were tightly bound, they all showed expressions of disbelief.

"Damn it, Mason! What have you been taking lately? You're insane!" A teammate who knew Mason well laughed and punched him on the shoulder.

Mason shrugged but muttered to himself, "I've been performing so well—why haven't I received an invitation from the special forces yet? Do I really have to resort to my backup plan?"
