Chapter 46 - Research and Discoveries on Wolfsmoke Grass

Mu Tou's growth had been completed, yet Su Ping didn't rush to find Qin Xiaoxue and have her summon Sun Chaoju and Vice Chairman Liu to settle the wager.

There were still more than half of the fifteen days left. There was no need to hurry.

Although he very much wanted to get his hands on Accelerated Growth and the Myriad Wood Wolf evolution method, some things had to be done step by step.

Besides, even if he obtained them now, with his current Myriad Spirits Codex experience, he wouldn't be able to fully repair them anyway.

And Su Ping's current schedule was anything but light.

All of it had been set by himself, so his days had been extremely full.

In the mornings, he took Li Shu to feed the Lin Wolves, shovel manure, and plan the day's training.

Among them, the most outstanding performers were rewarded with partial doses of Wood's Heart magic potion.

Yes—partial doses.

From previous tests, one Lin Wolf that consumed one-tenth of a potion showed no change. Another that consumed half only succeeded after being given the remaining half the next day.

Half worked.

Later, Su Ping tested quarter doses—and those worked too.

Giving the potion all at once was too conspicuous. Feeding it in stages actually produced better results.

During the daytime, sunlight was abundant. With Sunlight Absorption, the Lin Wolves' stamina recovered extremely well, so training efficiency was excellent.

In just a few days, not only were there skill breakthroughs as expected, but several Lin Wolves even saw major increases in their realm levels.

One young Lin Wolf that had been stuck at Ordinary Rank Ten even broke through to Elite Rank adulthood.

Pet beast cultivation wasn't just about racial potential.

Although the Lin Wolf's racial cap was Elite Rank Ten, that was merely the upper limit, not a guarantee that every Lin Wolf could reach it.

Lazy Lin Wolves that didn't fight or train might be lucky just to reach Elite Rank naturally.

Once the Lin Wolves' training was arranged, Li Shu handled reception duties in the mornings, while Su Ping focused on another task—

Building rapport with Li Shu's Falling Pine.

According to Li Shu, Brother Ping treated his pine better than he treated him.

Not only did Su Ping personally nurture it, he even occasionally used low-grade Spirit Spring Water to irrigate it.

After a few days, the pine had visibly "grown plumper."

In the afternoons, Su Ping carried out experiments based on something Li Shu had mentioned earlier.

And he also cultivated new Lin Wolves.

Yes—after the Breeders' Association advertisements were officially registered, Wood's Heart business suddenly exploded.

Even with price increases and the rule of only cultivating one Lin Wolf per week, there was still a queue.

Since it was only one Lin Wolf and didn't require complex nurturing, the only time-consuming part was building affinity.

That could increase Codex experience—and possibly create repeat customers.

Earn money while doing it. Why not?

But the most noteworthy part was Su Ping's experiments.

Extremely inhumane experiments.

The test subjects were two of his own Lin Wolves.

Both were Ordinary Rank.

They were special because each had only consumed one-tenth of a Wood's Heart potion.

Su Ping had never thought much about Wolfsmoke Grass before.

But since adding it caused Wood's Heart's effect to skyrocket, this foul-smelling, fast-growing plant clearly had hidden properties.

Thus, these two poor fellows became his experimental subjects.

Under Su Ping's orders—and Old Sha's pitiful supervision—these two wolves were brought daily to the Spirit Creek River.

To do what?

Very simple.

Eat grass.

One ate grass. One sunbathed.

Every morning, Su Ping fed each of them another one-tenth dose of Wood's Heart potion, ensuring external variables stayed consistent.

After several days, there had been no change.

Su Ping looked at his journal.

On it was written a single line:

[Investigating Wolfsmoke Grass's effect on Lin Wolves consuming Wood's Heart potion.]

This was already Day Six.

One wolf lazily basked in the sun.

The other gnawed furiously at the endless Wolfsmoke Grass, glaring as if asking why this cursed stuff never ran out.

Su Ping ignored its resentment and glanced at Old Sha, who was highly alert nearby.

"Relax. Wood's Heart may be outside the city, but the Beast Tamers' Association and military patrols regularly clear wild pet beasts. It's safe."

Strangely, Old Sha insisted on coming every time.

From his behavior, Su Ping inferred that the old wolf was worried about his safety.

Although Su Ping lacked a mind communication talent at the time, he could still roughly understand Old Sha's intent.

Yet as he watched Old Sha, Su Ping felt a twinge of worry.

Old Sha was over forty years old.

He was truly old.

Just as Su Ping's thoughts darkened, his gaze snapped to the side—

Not because of an enemy.

But because one of the Lin Wolves suddenly changed.

Light gathered. Sparkles appeared.

Then a shrill howl rang out—young, yet full of joy.

Su Ping leapt to his feet and rushed over.

The other wolf, still sunbathing, perked up its ears and stared in confusion.

Day Six!

Su Ping clenched his fist.

The wolf had only consumed about half a potion in total—yet it had succeeded days earlier than expected.

Did that mean Wolfsmoke Grass truly had a hidden effect?

At that moment, the Myriad Spirits Codex flipped open again.
