Brandon Hughes and Victor stood on either side of her, close enough that she could feel the pressure radiating from both men. Their lips curved in polite smiles, yet the air between them was sharp enough to cut skin.
Brandon Hughes broke the silence first.
"Mr. Steele, you're really a busy man," he said lightly, though his eyes were anything but light. "Earlier today, I had my people try to make an appointment with your company, but they were turned away without any explanation. I have to admit that surprised me."
Victor already knew about that call. He had personally told Steven Han to reject it.
He also knew exactly why Brandon Hughes had wanted to see him, and that was precisely why he had refused.
"I'm afraid there's been a misunderstanding," Victor replied calmly. "My secretary department makes decisions based on the company's needs. If they declined, then it means there was no reason for us to meet."
His tone was polite, but the meaning was unmistakable.
