Chapter 41 - Chapter 41: Light-Speed Contemplations

Chapter 41: Light-Speed Contemplations

The first template gave me a bald head, and the second template gives me a… sleazy old man? Liumu's mental voice was thick with exasperation. Even the Taotie, the one time it was a summon, just tossed the 'Glutton's Devouring' ability at me and scampered off, leaving me without a proper mount to this day.

"Can I get a refund? I'd even take a Super Saiyan Goku at this point!" Liumu began haggling with the unseen system.

Ding. System templates, once drawn, are non-refundable.

Liumu's hopeful expression crumpled. A moment later, his face twisted into a scowl. "Bakayarō! This system has no heart!"

Ding. System reminder: Only one template may be active at a time. Inactive templates will be stored in the Template Repository. Please adhere to usage protocols.

To use, or not to use?

Liumu stared at the Kizaru template card hovering in his consciousness, deep in thought.

The Saitama template had already maxed out every conceivable physical attribute. His attack power and speed were veritable ceilings in this world. While Kizaru's abilities were undoubtedly formidable, stacked against Saitama's absolute physicality, they seemed… almost quaint.

"Use it! Just use it!" he finally decided. "The templates can be switched anyway. It's basically like receiving a Kizaru experience card!"

As the thought solidified, the pale yellow card in his mind dissolved into countless motes of shimmering light. They streamed into the core of his being, weaving a new pattern of power.

Ding. Kizaru template activated. Host attribute reconstruction in progress…

Ding. Host attribute list updated.

The moment the Saitama template's influence receded, Liumu felt a profound, sudden emptiness, as if a mountain of latent power had vanished. The influx of the Kizaru template's energy quickly filled the void, but the sensation was distinctly different—less overwhelmingly dense, more… fluid and intangible. It was powerful, but in a way that felt separate from raw, brute force.

"Why is the Defense Value a range?" Liumu wondered, scrutinizing the data. He could understand Kizaru's power and stamina being lower than Saitama's. But the unchanged (and still astronomical) Speed Value and this bizarre ranged Defense…

"Wait a minute!"

Understanding dawned. Kizaru's power came from the Logia-type Pika Pika no Mi, the Glint-Glint Fruit. The ranged defense likely represented the natural intangibility—immunity to conventional physical attacks—that came with being a "light-man." The Speed Value, approaching or at light-speed, made perfect sense.

Drawing on his knowledge of One Piece, Liumu pieced together a logical explanation. His eyes continued down the list.

"The Talent Value actually changed! From 59 to 90." He was surprised. Could using different templates alter his innate potential? It seemed the only plausible explanation. "If that's the case… I could use the Saitama template for pure combat and switch to Kizaru for learning ninjutsu. That's practically exploiting a system loophole!"

The skills listed were familiar to any One Piece fan, and each name sent a thrill through him. The directional beam of the Laser. The Light Speed Kick that could launch supernovas flying. Yata no Kagami, the mirror that reflected and pursued light paths. Ama no Murakumo no Tsurugi, the photon-construct sword. Amanoiwato, the massive beam attack. And Yasakani no Magatama, the barrage of homing light bullets.

Every ability was a treasure. Perhaps, in the context of the ninja world, Kizaru's powers were even more fitting—more "ninja-like"—than Saitama's overwhelming simplicity. Skills like these…

"As a transmigrator… claiming to possess a Kekkei Genkai shouldn't be too far-fetched."

And the name of his Kekkei Genkai?

"It shall be called… Light Release!"

"Liumu, your hair seems to be growing back."

That night in their quarters, Kakashi observed calmly, staring at Liumu's scalp. "Seems you won't need that wig much longer."

Baldness was Liumu's eternal sore spot. In his mind, a man without a proper hairstyle might as well walk outside without pants. Eagerly, he snatched up a small mirror from the table and angled it at his head.

There, covering his once-gleaming dome, was a faint shadow. A thin, velvety layer of black hair stubble had emerged. It was barely there, like the first whisper of grass after a fire, but it was undeniably hair.

The more he looked, the more a sense of foreboding grew.

"This… it's not going to grow into…"

The Saitama template had rendered him perfectly, characteristically bald. Now, blessed by the Kizaru template… was he destined to sprout the same distinctive, wavy, slightly unkempt hairstyle as the laid-back Admiral?

Whoosh!

A shuriken suddenly shot through the open window, embedding itself with a solid thunk into the wooden pillar beside Kakashi's head.

Kakashi was at the window in a flash, but the night outside was empty and still.

Liumu pulled the shuriken free. Tied to its ring was a small, rolled scroll. He unfurled it.

'Midnight. Outside Kumo, south gate. Bilian Bridge. Assemble.'

The note was unsigned, but the chakra imprint felt faintly familiar—the senior brother, Minato.

"Mission?" Kakashi asked, having read over his shoulder.

Liumu shook his head, checking the time. They had about two hours. "Not sure yet. If I'm back before the departure time tomorrow, fine. If not, you and the team should return to Konoha without me."

In the dead of night, by the Bilian Bridge on the outskirts of Kumogakure.

Liumu arrived as instructed. Several silhouettes were already waiting at the bridgehead. As he drew closer, he recognized them: Minato, Orochimaru, Tsunade, and Konoha's chunin instructor for the exams, Yuhi Makoto.

Minato and the others had dispensed with their disguises, standing in their true forms.

"Liumu," Minato acknowledged his arrival.

Seeing the assembled team, Liumu's mind raced. "This is…"

Himself, the future Fourth Hokage, two of the Legendary Sannin, plus a jonin-level specialist like Yuhi Makoto… What kind of operation required such a concentration of Konoha's elite power here in the Land of Lightning?

"The little girl is fine," Tsunade said, stepping forward and pulling Liumu closer in a casual, almost maternal gesture. "She woke up this afternoon. I told her it was you who saved her."

The sudden proximity, and the direct line of sight it afforded, left Liumu momentarily dazed, his thoughts utterly derailed.

"Wow… so big…" he muttered, his eyes wide and utterly unfocused. "Two Heavenly Body-Shattering Stars…"
