Meanwhile, in the mindscape, Mary emerged from the Spirit Lake before Ryan. She could feel that her body had reached its limit.
At first, soaking had brought only comfort, but after a long time, a faint pain had appeared, slowly intensifying.
She knew that even though the Spirit Lake was most effective the first time, her body could no longer endure it. The pain now was far more intense than during her initial soak.
Her body had reached its limit, so Mary stepped out of the Spirit Lake.
After changing into clean clothes, she turned back to look at Ryan, who was still immersed in the water.
He was gritting his teeth and holding on, his face already pale. Layer after layer of black impurities seeped out of his skin, only to be instantly purified by the spring water and vanish without a trace.
The sight reassured her. Aside from the pallor, there were no other signs of danger.
Only then did Mary realize how hungry she was.
