Jay's POV

I was in my room when my phone buzzed.

Ciel.

Doctor Luke said tomorrow's session might be tougher. Come prepared.

I stared at the message for a few seconds.

Tougher?

I typed back.

Okaaayyy.

She replied quickly.

I have to go now. Bye.

I dropped my phone on the bed and tried to distract myself by reading a story.

Five minutes later—

Something hit my window.

I froze.

Another light tap.

I walked over slowly and pushed the curtain aside.

Keifer.

Standing outside.

He looked up at me and gestured with his hand.

Come out.

I opened the window slightly. "Wait a second."

I grabbed my hoodie, slipped it on, and headed outside quietly.

When I reached the gate, I saw him sitting on a motorbike.

I blinked.

"Whose motor is that?"

"Keagan's," he replied casually.

"Keagan has a motorbike?"

"Yeah. And I want to take you for a ride."

I stared at him.

"You… want to take me for a ride? Can you even ride?"

He smirked. "Yes, I can."

He sat properly on the bike and patted the seat behind him.

"Hop on."

I hesitated for half a second.

Then I climbed on.

He helped adjust the helmet on my head carefully. His fingers brushed my jaw for a second longer than necessary.

Then he wore his own helmet.

"Hold me tight," he said.

"Nah. I'm good."

"Okay."

The engine roared to life.

The bike moved.

And in that exact moment—

I saw my entire nineteen years of life flash in front of me.

I grabbed him instantly.

Tight.

Very tight.

He laughed. "See?"

"Shut up," I muttered, pressing closer.

He started riding properly.

And…

It was beautiful.

The wind hit my face. The city lights blurred into streaks of gold. His back was warm under my hands.

It felt reckless.

Free.

Romantic in a dangerous way.

"Where are we going?" I asked.

"I don't know," he replied. "Just roaming."

I smiled against his shoulder.

Then I noticed something.

A white car.

Behind us.

"Keifer… a car is following us."

"Oh come on, Jay. Let's have some time alone."

"Then tell the guys following us to go home."

Silence.

"If you doubt me," I said quickly, "turn right."

He turned right.

The car turned right.

My stomach dropped.

"Turn right again."

He did.

The car followed again.

"See?" I said. "They're after us."

He inhaled sharply.

"Don't worry. I'll distract them."

The bike sped up.

We turned into a narrower road.

"Jay," he said suddenly, "on the count of three, you will jump."

"What?!"

"Remove your helmet."

"What?!"

"Trust me."

My heart pounded.

But I removed it.

He did the same.

"Throw it at the car."

I threw my helmet backward.

It smashed against the windshield of the car.

"Jay," he said quickly, "there's a pile of garbage ahead. We're jumping into it."

"What?!"

"Ready?"

"No!"

"1—"

"Keifer!"

"2—"

"Keiferrrrrr!"

"3!"

He grabbed my hand.

And we jumped.

The bike kept going forward without us and slammed into a wall.

We landed.

In garbage.

Actual.

Garbage.

The smell hit me instantly.

"Ugh!" I gagged. "This is disgusting!"

Keifer pulled me up quickly. "Jay, get up. Let's go!"

I stood up, completely annoyed.

I hated the fact I was lying in trash.

Yuck.

We ran.

Fast.

Footsteps echoed behind us somewhere.

Keifer pulled me suddenly into a dark corner between two buildings.

We pressed against the wall, breathing hard.

Voices passed by.

"Check there!"

"Maybe they went the other way."

Silence.

Footsteps faded.

Finally.

They were gone.

Keifer exhaled slowly.

"Let's go. I saw a motel back there."

I stared at him. "Let's go. I'm literally smelling."

He laughed softly. "Come on. Before they return."

We hurried toward the motel.

And as crazy as it was…

As dangerous as it was…

My hand was still in his.

And I didn't let go.
