Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Sincerity

Polestar. The name of the club, literally "North Star."

Shimizu Koji had initially thought that using an English name was just a standard marketing tactic—to give the place a high-class feel. He hadn't expected the club's owner to actually be a foreigner.

And not just any foreigner—a blonde woman with large, wavy hair. She looked a bit older, but the moment she spoke, Koji could tell she'd lived in Japan for at least a decade.

The blonde woman descended the stairs, her gaze immediately locking onto Koji's face.

She was curious if what Anna had said earlier—"stunningly handsome"—was true. One look, and she knew it wasn't an exaggeration.

Her heart skipped a beat. Before she even spoke, she started silently calculating the potential value.

A man this perfect? She had never seen one like him. That cold, refined aura mixed with a hint of youthful purity… this was an absolute ace.

Koji disliked the way she was looking at him. A twinge of disappointment flashed across his mind. Perhaps, as he feared, it was going in that direction.

His expression hardened. He turned to leave.

But the blonde woman didn't seem to notice his mood. Her gaze lingered for two more seconds on his hands.

Looking at his long, pale fingers, she asked instinctively, "Can you play the piano?"

"I can, but not very well. Sorry, I don't think I'm suited for this job."

"No, you can!"

Her eyes lit up instantly. The determination in her voice made Koji pause mid-step.

Observing his hesitation, Diana immediately understood his thoughts. She realized there had been a misunderstanding between them.

She couldn't help sneaking another glance at him. With that appearance and aura, even the most pampered heiresses outside would probably swoon.

…So how could he possibly end up working as a host?

Yes, she was technically hiring hosts. But rules are rigid; people are not. Letting Koji, a treasure delivered to her doorstep, walk away? She would lose sleep for a month.

"Wait, sir! I think you've misunderstood! Our hiring is completely legitimate—it's not what you think."

Anna, the maid who had followed down, stayed silent until now. Hearing Diana speak, she stole a glance and muttered to herself: Really? I don't believe it.

Koji stopped and turned, curious to hear her explanation.

"First, let me introduce myself. I'm Cadison Diana—just call me Diana. And she is Asano Anna."

"Shimizu Koji," he replied.

Diana nodded without wasting words and explained the impromptu plan she'd just come up with.

"Koji-kun, could you play a piece for us right here? Anna, please bring the piano upstairs."

Diana's urgency was palpable. Anna stood there, blinking in disbelief, unsure if she'd heard correctly.

"Uh… sorry, Koji-kun. Could you come upstairs with us?" Diana smiled apologetically, brushing her hair back.

"So… if I understand correctly, my job here is to play the piano? Then…?"

Diana's eyes sparkled. She raised one hand and held up five fingers.

"Fifty thousand!"

"I'll pay you fifty thousand yen—per hour!"

Koji blinked. Fifty thousand yen an hour? Europeans and Americans… were they always this unpredictable?

Even skilled pianists would usually charge less. And he was just a beginner who claimed to know some piano.

"But the condition is, you actually can play, Koji-kun. You're not lying to us, right?"

Koji's icy expression softened.

She was offering way too much.

"All right… lead the way."

Diana had Anna go first. She and Koji walked side by side, keeping a slight distance.

Some might have thought she was crazy—fifty thousand yen per hour for someone with basic skills.

But to Diana, it didn't matter. Koji only needed to be able to play. The more he played, the better—but even a simple piece would enthrall their guests.

Koji's cold, noble features, his distant purity… as long as he could perform a piano piece—even if it was fragmented or imperfect—these women would treat it like celestial music.

The further he was from them emotionally, the more frenzied they'd become.

As for the original plan—a host? Selling one's body, even just letting someone touch him? That would have been a huge loss for the Polaris Club.

This… was an idol. That idea had suddenly come to Diana when she saw Koji before her—a bold, innovative strategy.

She truly was a genius.

Koji sat at the piano bench, ready. Diana could already imagine the future: countless women rushing to throw money, desperate for a glance at him.

Koji could play piano, yes. Not perfectly—but three years of casual learning had given him enough skill.

He quickly skimmed a simple sheet music, then began to play.

Elegant notes floated through the room, flying from the piano to the walls, and straight into the hearts of the women present.

Anna's eyes sparkled as if she were staring at a constellation, unable to blink.

Diana's gaze lingered on Koji's profile. For a moment, she was lost, then shook her head. She was thirty-five, almost forty, and had seen too much—but still couldn't resist Koji's charm.

She smiled, partly amused, partly satisfied… and greedy. She loved money, and without it, she felt insecure.

She knew she had to make more concessions, offer more guarantees to keep Koji. Money alone wouldn't be enough.

"Clap, clap, clap—"

"You passed, Koji-kun."

"Clap, clap, clap, clap—"

Diana glanced at the maid beside her. Anna blushed and lowered her head.

Koji, still at the piano, listened as Diana hesitated briefly before explaining the full details of the job.

"I can tell you're still a student, Koji-kun. That doesn't matter. I won't pry. Since I know you plan to work part-time, your schedule would be every Sunday from 7 PM to 10 PM. How does that sound?"

Diana understood the power of scarcity in marketing. If Koji were there every day like a resident pianist, it wouldn't have the same effect—it would ruin the club financially.

Koji was a little surprised but nodded. Diana quickly added:

"I can guarantee, Koji-kun, you're only here to play piano. No extra requests. If any customer dares to cross the line, we'll handle it ourselves."

After hearing her, Koji—experienced enough—could appreciate Diana's shrewdness and business sense.

Anna, a recent college graduate, was still utterly confused. She wondered if her boss had been replaced.

"All right. Then I'll start next Sunday?"

Koji agreed without asking for an extra hour. Shorter shifts were better anyway.

Both sides got what they wanted. Before Koji left, Diana handed him fifty thousand yen upfront as prepayment.

She truly had an eye for people. Koji wasn't the type to run off with the money, and this gesture earned her some goodwill.

After all, it was a thing called trust. Every human being gains some satisfaction from it.

Almost like… a drug.
