Chapter 17 - Evans Confrontation I

Lena's POV

I woke up very early to an empty bed. I hurried to the bathroom to bathe because I didn't want to be late for work.

Not long after I was done bathing, I chose a luxury gown, accessorized with a pearl necklace and matching pearl earrings. I applied a light touch of makeup and packed my hair into a messy ponytail. I wore a black stilettos. Grabbing my handbag, I made my way downstairs.

I was humming when I got downstairs and saw Raymond sitting at the dining table. I wondered why he was there. For days now, I hadn't really seen him.

He only came back late at night, drew me close, and slept off, only for me to wake up to an empty bed again. I wouldn't see him for the entire day either.

I knew we were in a contract, and one of the terms stated that I wasn't to intrude into his business or personal space. Whenever I saw him with another woman, I had no right to complain.

So I decided to ignore him and go to work.

"Lena, come have a seat," I heard him say as I tried to walk past him.

"Tell me what you want so I can go about my day. I don't want to be late," I replied irritably.

"You won't be late. You still have about an hour," he said without looking up from his laptop.

I sat down. In the few days I'd stayed with

Raymond, I had learned that he didn't take no for an answer.

"What do you want?" I asked.

"You seem to be sulking. What's the problem, kitten?" he asked softly as he closed his laptop.

"Nothing. I just want to go to work."

"Alright. Sullivan will pick you up during lunch. I booked a doctor's appointment for you. The doctor will prescribe contraceptives for you during the period we'll be together."

I opened my eyes wide. "I don't remember taking contraceptives since we started."

"Don't worry. I made sure you've been on contraceptives since you came. Don't ask me how, I have my ways."

"Okay," I responded.

"Another thing, why didn't you tell me about your confrontation with Ashley?" he asked.

"How did you know about that?" I asked, shock evident on my face.

"I have my ways. But this one was on the internet, so of course I found out."

"I wanted to tell you, but when I got home, every mean thing that had been said about me was taken down. I searched over and over again, but I couldn't find anything. I thought Ashley had finally decided to stop posting lies about me."

"You need to learn how things work. Ashley covered her tracks and staged people everywhere to accuse you, and you fell for it."

"Next time, defend yourself. Throw your own lies and shade back," he added.

"Or better still, walk away."

"Okay," I responded quietly.

"What about the company? How do you plan to deal with Evans? He has most of the board of directors in his pocket. Do you want me to deal with him?"

"No need. I want to stand on my own two feet."

"Alright. That would be all. You can go to work. See you later, dear."

Oh, how I wished to stab him, if only I can with my eyes.

I left when I noticed Raymond had gone back to his laptop, acting as though I wasn't sitting right there with him. What a scumbag.

"Good morning, ma," Sullivan greeted me.

"Good morning, Sullivan. Will you be taking me to work today?" I asked, noticing he was dressed sharply, like he was heading somewhere important.

"Yes, ma. I'm your personal chauffeur for today and every other day. Just tell me where you want to go."

"Alright. Let's go to the company," I replied, and we both laughed lightly.

When I entered the company, I went straight to my office, ignoring the stares thrown my way. It was to be expected after everything that had happened, and the lies Ashley started spreading days ago were still very much in circulation.

"Hello, Lena. You look good today," Sylvia greeted me as soon as I entered.

"And I love how the red gown accentuates your figure, just enough."

"Thank you, Sylvia. How was your weekend?"

"Beautiful, as usual," she replied.

I looked her over. She was wearing a black suit paired with red stilettos, all high-end brands. Maybe on my next shopping trip, I'd go with her.

"Sylvia, have you prepared the documents I asked for?"

"Yes. These are all the contracts you awarded Evans and also helped him carry out, because he couldn't do them. I also brought evidence of you working on them."

"Okay. What about the others?"

"I have them too. These show his mismanagement of funds and failure to uphold contract agreements."

"What time is the meeting?"

"Eight o'clock."

"And the meeting with Hyacinth Hove?"

"That one is at noon."

"Alright. Prepare the documents for that one. We'll leave immediately after the board meeting."

"Okay, Lena."

Sylvia stepped out of my office.

I went through the documents carefully, preparing myself for the meeting.

I would not let Evans walk away freely today after everything he had done to me. I would slowly, patiently, exact my revenge, taking back everything I had ever given him.

He, his cheating ass, and Ashley could burn in hell for all I cared.
