"I know what you mean."
We stood there for a moment, both of us just watching the babies sleep, and despite everything—the demon threats, the complicated mate bonds, the uncertain future—this felt peaceful.
"We should sleep while we can," Nicklaus said finally. "Damon's convinced they're all going to wake up simultaneously in about an hour demanding attention."
"He's probably right."
"He usually is about these things."
We went back to bed, and I managed another hour of sleep before Aiden woke up crying and set off a chain reaction that had all three babies awake and demanding attention at the same time.
Just like Damon had predicted.
"I hate it when you're right," I told him as we divided baby duties between us.
"Get used to it," he replied, expertly changing Kieran's diaper while Nicklaus handled Aiden and I dealt with Lyra. "I'm right about most things."
"Your humility is overwhelming."
"It's one of my best qualities."
