Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Apologizing

Seeing the unfavorable look on her daughter's face because of her decision, she simply turned to look at her and replied calmly.

"No he did not."

"Oh really? Then if it is not almost, the proper term to describe it would be a total wreck. By bringing this brat here again, it will cost you another thousand to replace the damages," she said as she pointed directly at John.

Hearing those words, a memory suddenly flashed through his mind. He froze for a brief moment as the past surfaced clearly.

Yes, he remembered it now, he remembered the chaos, the broken things, and the way everyone had looked at him as if he were nothing but trouble.

The accusation stung more than he expected, not because it was loud or harsh, but because it carried a truth he could not easily deny.

After giving him a place to stay, the mother went to rest in her room and instructed her daughter to bring in the young man she had taken in.

When the door was opened, curiosity quickly turned into disappointment. Standing there was nothing more than a homeless beggar with an unkempt appearance.

His hair was overly long clearly untouched by a haircut for a very long time. Covered in grime and dirt, he lacked even the most basic hygiene.

Not only that, it was only his first day there, yet the once well kept room had already been turned into a dumpster.

Because of this, her first impression of him was extremely bad.

What irritated her even more was the way his eyes changed when he saw her, it turned lewd and predatory that made her scalps numb every time.

In that moment she knew her mother had brought someone troublesome or dangerous into their home.

Still, out of respect for her mother she did not say anything. Instead, she told him to come downstairs to have lunch.

But when the two of them came down and the food was properly set on the table, they all sat together.

After John took a bite, he realized that the chicken was not to his taste.

His ugly temperament immediately surfaced. He exploded in anger and began wrecking the place.

First he smashed the plate, then flipped the table, and even kicked the refrigerator, which had done absolutely nothing wrong.

"What the heck is wrong with you?!" Claire shouted as she tried to pull him back, but with a slight shove, she was pushed away.

"Ah!"

She fell to the ground and as she looked up, she glared at him filled with endless anger.

"Honey, are you okay?" Ruth hurried over and helped her daughter up.

After making sure her daughter was fine, she stepped toward the aggressive John and tried to calm him down.

"Young man, is the food not to your taste?" she asked with a gentle smile.

John just scoffed and looked at her filled with disgust, "Your food tastes bad. Not only that, the chicken is cold woman. Pweh!" he said before spitting on the floor and walking out.

Hearing what he said to her mother Claire lunged at him, but with another slight push from John, she was knocked back again.

Luckily her mother caught her just before she hit the floor.

"Ahhh! Mom, look at what you did. You just brought in another problem after that asshole of a brother finally died," she screamed.

As this memory flashed through his mind, he wanted nothing more than to tear his own face apart. It was unbearably embarrassing.

The reason is really so stupid, this previous owner of the body is really retarded. It was such a surprised he was able to survive these two years with this kind of personality.

So he could only fake a cough to ease the awkward atmosphere. After realizing his mistake, he was about to issue another task to apologize to Aunt Ruth, but he had already reached the limit for issuing quests.

Even without a quest he still faced Aunt Ruth, whose expression was filled with embarrassment because of what her daughter had said.

"Aunt Ruth, I just want to say that I'm very sorry," he said as he bowed deeply.

Seeing him take a deep bow Claire was caught off guard, and even Ruth was momentarily stunned.

"Not only did you take care of me for the past few months, but I repaid your kindness with hatred. I even had the gall to abuse your goodwill and do something unforgivable. So please forgive me," he said.

This time, his legs gave out and he knelt on the floor. Seeing this, the two of them were left dumbstruck.

For Claire it felt as if this once prideful man had somehow experienced a sudden enlightenment and turned into a different person in just a single day.

Seeing this case, she could even find it more believable for the sun to rise in the west than for this bastard to actually change.

While Aunt Ruth who was still frozen in shock, hurriedly reacted and pulled him up by the arms.

"Honey, get up. There's no need to apologize. It's fine, it's fine," she said with a gentle smile.

But deep inside she felt genuinely happy, believing that the child had truly changed.

After helping him up, they went inside and talked for a while. Most of the time was John speaking, repeatedly expressing his sincere gratitude and apologizing again and again.

Then the conversation shifted, "Oh yeah honey did you find the breakfast delicious?" she asked.

John hearing what she said was confused, what food? Claire who was looking at him secretly was startled when her mother mentioned this.

"Umm, what breakfast exactly Aunt?" he asked.

Seeing his confused look, Aunt Ruth was also confused but it did not also end there as John continued.

"These past few days I did not remember any breakfast at all, except that one time when I first came here but after that. I didn't remember much anything," he explained.

Hearing this Ruth brow's furrowed as she glanced at his daughter whose face turned pale than a sheet of paper.

"My daughter, what did you do to the food?" she questioned.
