Chapter 44 - Experiments and Parallel Dimension

[POV: MARC]

Arrival at Jaya

The Going Merry docked calmly at the port of Mock Town, the pirate island of Jaya.Dozens of pirate ships were moored there. Shady men lingered on the docks. The atmosphere was hostile, dangerous.Perfect for pirates.

"WE'VE ARRIVED!" Luffy shouted enthusiastically.

The crew of the monkey-man—whom Luffy had miraculously managed to befriend after knocking him out—helped us dock.

"Thanks, Masira!" Luffy said, shaking the monkey captain's hand.

"No problem, Straw Hat! If you need anything on this island, call me!"

"OKAY!"

The crew quickly split up.

Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji headed toward the taverns. Probably to eat, drink, and fight.Nami, Usopp, and Chopper went shopping—supplies, maps, equipment.Mr. Fish decided to stay on the ship with Walter and SCP-999.

And me?

I had work to do.

"I'm going to the Foundation," I announced. "I have experiments to run."

"Experiments?" Nami repeated suspiciously. "On what?"

"SCPs. Nothing dangerous for us."

"Alright… be careful."

I summoned the door and stepped inside.

Preparations

I walked through the white, sterile corridors of the Foundation. My footsteps echoed in the silence.

Destination: the experimentation room.

A large room filled with high-tech equipment. Observation tables. Cameras everywhere. Guards standing by.

I activated the communication system.

"Bring SCP-1499, SCP-010, and the D-Class Smoker to the experimentation room. Immediately."

[ORDER RECEIVED][TRANSPORT IN PROGRESS…]

Then I sent a message to Robin.

"Join me in the experimentation room. First official experiment."

A few minutes later, she arrived, wearing a white lab coat over her usual clothes.

"Director," she said politely. "You called for me?"

"Yes. Today, you will witness your first SCP experiment."

Her eyes shone with interest. "What kind of experiment?"

"Behavioral control testing. And dimensional exploration."

"Intriguing."

Smoker's Arrival

The doors opened.

Two guards entered, dragging Smoker in chains. His wrists were bound with Seastone cuffs. His face was hard, furious.

"LET ME GO, YOU BASTARDS!"

The guards ignored him and shoved him into the center of the room.

Smoker straightened immediately, locking eyes with me.

"YOU!" he spat. "THE THIEF FROM LOGUETOWN!"

"Captain Smoker," I said calmly. "Nice to see you again."

"GO TO HELL! LET ME GO!"

"No."

He tried to lunge at me, but the chains held him back.

ZAP!

A guard tased him.

Smoker collapsed, convulsing. "ARGH!"

"Calm down," I ordered coldly. "You're here to participate in an experiment. Cooperate, and everything will go smoothly."

"I'LL NEVER COOPERATE WITH A CRIMINAL LIKE YOU!"

I sighed. "Guards. Install an instance of SCP-010 on him."

SCP-010: The Obedience Collars

A guard approached with a metal case.He opened it, revealing a collar—metallic, engraved with strange circuits.

Smoker's eyes widened. "What the hell is that?!"

"SCP-010. The Obedience Collars."

Before he could react, the guards snapped it around his neck.

CLICK.

It locked automatically.

"TAKE THIS OFF ME!" Smoker shouted, trying to rip it off.

The collar didn't budge. Indestructible.

"Now," I told the guards, "remove his Seastone cuffs."

"WHAT?!" Smoker blinked. "You… you're freeing me?"

"In a way."

The guards removed the cuffs.

Smoker immediately felt his strength return—his Devil Fruit powers reactivating.

A vicious grin spread across his face. "FATAL MISTAKE, KID!"

He turned his arm into smoke and punched toward the nearest guard.

"WHITE BLOW!"

But—

His arm stopped.

Mid-air.

Against his will.

"What…?" Smoker whispered in horror.

His arm withdrew. Slowly. As if someone else was controlling it.

Then his entire body began to move.

Against his will.

Control

I pulled a remote control from my pocket.Simple. A few buttons and a joystick.

"SCP-010," I explained calmly. "Total mind-body control. You can no longer move freely. Your body belongs to me now."

"NO… NO, NO, NO!" Smoker struggled, but his muscles no longer obeyed.

I pressed a button.

His body spun perfectly.

Then a pirouette.

Then dance steps.

Like a puppet.

Smoker's face turned red with rage and humiliation. "STOP THIS, YOU—"

I made him moonwalk.

Robin watched with a mix of fascination and horror.

"This is… terrifying," she murmured.

"It's effective," I replied. "Here's SCP-010's file. Read it."

I handed her a thick document.

Her eyes widened page after page.

"Total body control… Impossible to resist… Can force any action… Works on Devil Fruit users…"

"My God…" she whispered. "If this technology fell into the wrong hands…"

"That's why it stays here. Under control."

Smoker, still forced to dance, growled. "YOU'LL PAY FOR THIS…"

"No. You'll cooperate. Or I'll make you dance forever."

I finally stopped him.

He collapsed onto the floor, exhausted and humiliated.

"Why…?" he whispered. "Why are you doing this to me…?"

"Because I need you for an experiment. And you don't have a choice."

SCP-1499: The Gas Mask

A guard brought in a table with an object on it.

A gas mask.

Black. Old. With circular filters on the sides.

"SCP-1499," I announced. "The Gas Mask."

Smoker stared at it warily. "What is this thing now…?"

"A portal to another dimension."

"WHAT?!"

"When you put on this mask, you are transported to a parallel dimension. A strange world. Dark. Dangerous."

"YOU'RE INSANE IF YOU THINK I'M GOING TO—"

"Your mission is simple," I continued, ignoring him. "Map the area. Observe the entities. And if possible, capture an instance of SCP-1499-1."

"CAPTURE A WHAT?!"

"The inhabitants of that dimension. Humanoid creatures. Tall. Deformed."

Robin frowned. "You're sending him into a hostile dimension… alone?"

"He has his Devil Fruit. He's a Logia. He can defend himself."

"YOU'RE ALL CRAZY!" Smoker yelled. "I REFUSE!"

"You don't have a choice."

I pressed the remote.

Smoker's body stood up against his will.

Walked toward the table.

Grabbed the mask.

"NO… STOP THIS!" He fought mentally, but his body betrayed him.

The mask moved toward his face.

"YOU'RE A MONSTER!" he spat.

"I know."

The mask snapped onto his face.

CLICK.

And Smoker vanished.

Instantly.

As if he had never existed.

Waiting

Robin stared at the empty space, speechless. "He… he really disappeared…"

"Yes. He's now in SCP-1499's dimension."

"That's… incredible."

"Guards," I ordered, "bring in a large reinforced containment cage. Just in case he brings something back."

[ORDER RECEIVED]

They returned minutes later with a massive cage—three meters tall, reinforced steel bars, multiple locks.

"Perfect," I said. "Now we wait."

Robin sat down, watching the spot where Smoker had vanished.

"How long will he be there?"

"That depends. Time flows differently in that dimension."

"And if he doesn't come back?"

"He will. As soon as he removes the mask."

"And if an entity attacks him first?"

"He'll turn into smoke. They won't be able to touch him."

She nodded slowly. "This is… a risky experiment."

"All Foundation experiments are."

We waited.

Five minutes.Ten minutes.Fifteen minutes.

[POV: SMOKER] Arrival

Smoker opened his eyes.

And found himself in a nightmare.

He was no longer in the experimentation room.

He was… elsewhere.

A dark, foggy world devoid of color.

The sky was gray. The ground was black. Strange structures loomed in the distance—twisted buildings, warped towers.

"What the hell…?"

He touched his face.

The mask was still there.

That bastard was telling the truth… I really was teleported…

He looked around.

Nothing. No one.

Just silence.

A crushing, oppressive silence.

Alright. Calm down. You're a Logia. Nothing can touch you.

He turned into smoke.

PSHHHH.

It worked. His body dispersed into white smoke.

Good. I can still use my power.

He reformed and began walking through the fog, through deserted streets.

The buildings were… wrong. Not really buildings—more like shapes vaguely resembling them.

As if someone tried to recreate a city but forgot how it worked.

Encounter

After what felt like hours, he heard something.

Footsteps.

Heavy. Slow. Methodical.

THUD. THUD. THUD.

He turned.

And saw it.

A creature.

Humanoid—but deformed.

Over two meters tall. Gaunt body. Arms too long. Twisted legs.

And worst of all—

Its face.

Or what should have been its face.

A smooth surface. No eyes. No mouth. No nose.

Just… nothing.

"What the hell IS THAT?!" Smoker whispered in horror.

The creature stopped.

Then turned toward him.

Despite having no eyes, Smoker felt it LOOKING at him.

GRRRRR…

A low growl came from it.

Then it charged.

Combat

WHAM!

The creature swung its massive arm.

Smoker turned into smoke.

WHOOSH!

The arm passed straight through him.

"HA! TOO SLOW!"

He reformed behind it and punched.

"WHITE BLOW!"

BAM!

The smoke fist slammed into the creature, sending it crashing into a warped building.

CRASH!

"Not so tough after all," Smoker muttered.

But the creature stood up.

Slowly.

As if the blow meant nothing.

"Damn it…"

It charged again—faster this time.

Smoker dispersed again.

I can't seriously hurt it. But it can't touch me either.

A stalemate.

Then he remembered his mission.

"Capture an instance if possible."

That idiot wants me to CAPTURE this thing?!

Capture

As the creature kept charging again and again, Smoker avoided each attack.

Wait… if I'm smoke… and it can't touch me…

Maybe I can completely envelop it.

An idea formed.

The next time it charged, Smoker didn't fully disperse.

Instead, he turned his entire body into smoke—keeping his consciousness but losing all solid form.

Then he wrapped himself around the creature.

Completely.

Like a dense cloud imprisoning it.

"GRRRRAAAAAH!"

The creature thrashed violently, trying to strike, claw, escape.

But its attacks passed through smoke.

Smoker tightened his hold.

It's like a smoke trap… as long as I maintain this form, it can't escape.

The creature continued struggling, but its movements gradually slowed—not from exhaustion, but realization.

Good… now… how do I get out of here…?

Still in smoke form, Smoker focused on the mask—still linked to him even in his intangible state.

Marc said removing it would send me back…

With intense concentration, he used part of his smoke to grip the edge of the mask.

If I remove it now… and keep holding this thing…

Maybe I can bring it back with me.

He hesitated.

What's waiting on the other side? Another twisted experiment?

But staying here wasn't an option.

He pulled the mask.

Return

SNAP.

Smoker reappeared in the experimentation room.

Still made of smoke.

Still imprisoning SCP-1499-1.

GRRRRR!

The creature materialized as well, trapped inside the smoke.

"IN THE CAGE!" Marc shouted. "NOW!"

Smoker moved—a white cloud containing a trapped monster—into the open cage.

Once inside, he hurled the creature to the back and instantly reformed outside.

CLANG!

The guards slammed the cage shut.

Locked. Sealed.

The creature clawed at the bars, growling furiously.

Smoker collapsed on the floor, panting.

"Holy… shit…" he groaned.

Maintaining smoke form across two dimensions while imprisoning a hostile entity had been exhausting—even for a Logia.

Robin stared at him, impressed despite herself. "He really captured it… using his own body as a prison…"

"Ingenious," I commented. "Good work, Captain."

Smoker glared at me, furious but too exhausted to yell. "Go… to… hell…"

"Your creativity is remarkable. Turning your Devil Fruit into a living cage. I hadn't considered that."

"I… DIDN'T… HAVE A CHOICE…"

"Precisely."

End of the Experiment

I turned to the guards. "Reapply the Seastone cuffs. And remove SCP-010."

"WHAT?!" Smoker blinked. "You're… removing the collar?"

"The experiment is over. You fulfilled your role."

The guards carefully removed SCP-010.

CLICK.

The collar unlocked and was placed in a containment box.

Smoker touched his neck, feeling control return.

"Finally…"

Then—

CLICK. CLICK.

The Seastone cuffs snapped back onto his wrists.

Weakness flooded him instantly.

"Bastard…" he growled. "You gave me hope… just to take it away…"

"I can't let you go, Captain. You're too valuable as a test subject."

"I'LL KILL YOU! ONE DAY I'LL GET OUT AND I'LL KILL YOU!"

"Maybe. But not today."

The guards dragged him out as he shouted, "I AM A MARINE! JUSTICE WILL PREVAIL! YOU'LL PAY FOR THIS!"

The doors closed.

Silence.

Debriefing

Alone, Robin and I observed the creature in the cage.

It continued growling and clawing.

"That's… terrifying," Robin murmured.

"It's fascinating," I replied. "An entity from another dimension. Captured. Contained."

"What will you do with it?"

"Study it. Understand its biology. Its physiology. Perhaps discover how it exists in our world."

She nodded. "And Smoker… will you keep using him for experiments?"

"As long as he's useful."

"He hates you."

"I know. Hate is irrelevant. Only results matter."

I picked up SCP-010's containment box. "Return this to Secure Storage. Level 4. Director-only access."

"Understood."

"Good work today. Your first successful experiment."

"Thank you, Director."

She left.

I remained facing the creature.

SCP-1499-1.

The first captured instance in this world.

Brought back by a furious Logia who used his own body as a prison.

"Welcome home," I murmured.

The creature growled.

I smiled.

Smoker proved something important today.

Devil Fruit users can capture SCPs in unique ways.

Their very bodies can become containment tools.

Interesting.

Very interesting.
