[POV: MARC]
A Peaceful Voyage to Jaya
The days passed quietly aboard the Going Merry. The sun was shining. The sea was calm. The wind gently filled the sails. And the crew… the crew was having fun.
Everyone's main activity was playing with SCP-999.
The little orange blob had become the ship's official mascot. It bounced everywhere, made everyone laugh, and brought a pure joy that even the darkest moments couldn't erase.
Luffy tossed it into the air like a ball."HIGHER! HIGHER!"
SPLAT!
SCP-999 landed right on Zoro's face as he slept.
"LUFFY, STOP THAT!" the swordsman growled, wiping the orange substance off his face.
But even he was smiling slightly.
Nami played hide-and-seek with 999. The blob hid in the most unlikely places—under her hat, in her shoes, even in her bra once (which caused a piercing scream).
Usopp told stories to 999, who vibrated with laughter at every lie.
Chopper and 999 raced across the deck.
Sanji cooked while 999 tasted anything it could get close to.
And Mr. Fish read books to 999, who listened attentively—even though it probably understood nothing.
Walter, meanwhile, watched everything from my shoulder with an expression I could only describe as… jealous?
"Do you want attention too?" I whispered, stroking his ears.
He squeaked softly and snuggled against my neck.
The Fishing Competition
One particularly calm morning, Luffy had an idea.
"USOPP! LET'S HAVE A COMPETITION!"
"A competition of what?" the sniper asked.
"FISHING! Whoever catches the biggest prey wins!"
Usopp's eyes lit up."ARE YOU SURE? I'm a MASTER fisherman! I once caught a Sea King with just a fishing rod and a worm!"
"LIAR!"
"IT'S TRUE!"
They both prepared with improvised fishing rods.
Luffy used… a piece of rope tied to a hook. With a chunk of meat as bait.
Usopp, more serious, had built a sophisticated fishing rod with a reel and special bait.
"May the best man win!" Usopp declared.
"I'M GONNA WIN!" Luffy shouted.
They cast their lines.
And waited.
Anomaly Alert
Thirty minutes later, nothing had bitten.
"This is BOOOORING!" Luffy complained.
"Fishing requires PATIENCE!" Usopp replied.
I watched the scene with amusement from my corner of the deck.
Then…
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.[ALERT: ANOMALY DETECTED][DISTANCE: 20 METERS][SCP PROBABILITY: 91%][LOCATION: UNDERWATER]
I straightened abruptly."EVERYONE! ANOMALY IN THE AREA!"
The mood shifted instantly.
Zoro drew his three swords. Sanji took a fighting stance. Nami pulled out her Clima-Tact. Chopper transformed into Heavy Point.
"WHERE?!" Luffy shouted, suddenly serious.
"Underwater. Twenty meters away."
"WHAT IS IT?!" Usopp panicked.
"I don't know yet."
[DISTANCE: 15 METERS]
"It's getting closer…" I murmured.
Everyone scanned the water, searching for the slightest sign.
[DISTANCE: 10 METERS]
"Prepare for combat," I ordered.
[DISTANCE: 5 METERS]
"HERE!" Zoro shouted, pointing at the water near the ship.
But…
Nothing.
No impact. No attack. No monster rising from the depths.
Just… calm.
[DISTANCE: 3 METERS][STATIONARY]
"What is it waiting for…?" Sanji muttered.
As the Foundation Director, I NEVER lowered my guard when facing an unknown SCP.
Especially one behaving unpredictably.
Minutes passed.
Five minutes. Ten minutes. Fifteen minutes.
The anomaly stayed there. A few meters away. Motionless.
But it didn't attack.
The Unexpected Catch
Luffy lost patience.
"I'M DONE WAITING!"
He started reeling in his fishing line.
"LUFFY, WAIT—" I began.
Too late.
SPLASH!
Something came out of the water.
Small. Red-orange. With big eyes.
A squid.
About one meter long.
With the cutest, most kawaii eyes I had ever seen.
PLOP!
It landed on the deck, wriggling slightly.
"WHAT?!" Luffy stared at it, disappointed."THAT'S IT?! IT'S TINY!"
"I WON!" Usopp shouted triumphantly.
"NO! WE HAVEN'T SEEN YOUR CATCH YET!"
Luffy grabbed the little squid and carried it toward a bucket of water."I'll put it here for now—"
"STOP!" I shouted.
Everyone froze.
I slowly approached the squid.
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.[ANOMALY CONFIRMED: 1 METER][ANALYSIS IN PROGRESS…]
I knelt in front of the small creature.
It looked at me with innocent eyes.
What are you…?
The Discovery
The rest of the crew didn't know how to react.
"Marc… is it dangerous?" Nami asked cautiously.
"I don't know yet."
I observed the squid carefully. Its color. Its tentacles. Its eyes.
Then, slowly, I extended my hand.
And gently stroked it.
The squid closed its eyes.
In happiness.
It nuzzled against my hand, almost purring.
BEEP.[ANALYSIS COMPLETE][SCP IDENTIFIED: SCP-2790][CLASS: SAFE][DESIGNATION: BEST FRIEND FOREVER][ABILITY: AFFECTIONATE COMPANION, NON-HOSTILE, REQUIRES HUMAN CONTACT]
I smiled.
"You're a good squid, aren't you?"
It opened its eyes and looked at me with adoration.
[NOTE: SCP-2790 IS THE ONLY SCP CLASSIFIED AS 'BEST FRIEND FOREVER' BY THE FOUNDATION][DANGER: NONE][RECOMMENDATION: REGULAR HUMAN CONTACT REQUIRED FOR WELL-BEING]
I gently lifted it from the deck, holding its tentacles carefully.
"Everyone," I announced with a big smile, "meet our new friend from the sea."
"That's… it?" Zoro asked incredulously."No giant teeth? No deadly poison?"
"No. It's just a kind squid that wants affection."
"KAWAII!" Chopper exclaimed, bouncing."IT'S SO CUTE!"
Nami approached cautiously."Can I touch it?"
"Go ahead."
She gently stroked the squid. It closed its eyes in happiness again.
"Oh my God, it's ADORABLE!"
Even Zoro smiled slightly."Not bad for an anomaly."
I summoned the Foundation gate."Guards! Bring me an aquarium! A big one! With filtration and aeration!"
A few minutes later, a two-meter aquarium appeared on the deck.
Filled with fresh seawater. Aquatic plants. Rocks. A perfect environment for a squid.
I gently placed SCP-2790 inside.
"Welcome to the crew," I whispered.
The Disappearance
I turned around to officially introduce 2790 to the crew.
But…
The aquarium was empty.
"WHAT?!"
And Luffy was gone.
"WHERE'S LUFFY?!" Nami screamed.
CRASH!
A noise from the kitchen.
Followed by smoke.
"Oh no…"
I rushed to the kitchen, violently opening the door.
And I saw…
Luffy.
Fighting SCP-2790.
Trying to put it in a frying pan.
"HOLD STILL!" Luffy yelled, grabbing the poor squid's tentacles."I'M GONNA COOK YOU!"
SCP-2790 struggled desperately, its big eyes filled with pure terror.
"LUFFY!" I roared.
He turned around, grinning."Marc! Look! I'm making grilled squid!"
Something inside me snapped.
I pulled a seastone baton from my pocket.
"LUFFY. PUT. THE. SQUID. DOWN."
"But—"
WHAM!
I struck him on the head with the baton.
The contact with seastone instantly drained his energy.
"ARGH!"
He collapsed, knocked out cold, tongue hanging out.
I quickly grabbed SCP-2790, trembling with fear, into my arms.
"It's okay… it's okay… no one's going to eat you…"
The poor squid snuggled against me, seeking protection.
The Realization
I looked at the crew watching from the kitchen doorway.
Zoro snickered."You knocked out the captain."
"He deserved it," I replied coldly.
I gently stroked SCP-2790, calming it down.
Then a realization hit me.
This poor SCP could never live with us.
There were too many carnivores here.
Luffy would try to eat it at every opportunity. Sanji probably too. Even Walter might see it as a snack.
It needed someone kind. Patient. Cultured.
Someone who would appreciate its company without trying to cook it.
An idea formed.
"I have a solution," I murmured.
I summoned the Foundation gate and stepped through with SCP-2790.
[POV: ROBIN]
The Research
Robin was in her new room, seated at her desk.
In front of her: photographs of the Alabasta Poneglyph.
She had spent the last few days studying them. Deciphering ancient symbols. Translating word by word.
It was fascinating.
The Poneglyph spoke of the ancient weapon Pluton. Its location. Its destructive power.
But also of Alabasta's history. The Nefertari family. Their betrayal of the Celestial Dragons.
Everything is connected, Robin thought. The Void Century. The ancient weapons. The World Government.
It's all part of the same puzzle.
She took meticulous notes, documenting every detail. Every nuance.
This was her work now. As a research assistant.
And she loved it.
After several hours, her eyes began to tire.
"Enough for today," she murmured, standing up.
She decided to spend her free time in the library.
A place she had grown to love. Thousands of books. Forgotten knowledge. Lost stories.
She spent two hours reading about ancient civilizations. Lost peoples. The world's mysteries.
Then she returned to her personal quarters.
The Surprise
Robin opened her bedroom door.
And stopped dead.
An aquarium.
A large aquarium. Two meters long. Filled with clear seawater. Aquatic plants and rocks.
And inside…
A squid.
Red-orange. With big, adorable eyes.
"What is…?"
She slowly approached.
The squid looked at her. Then swam toward the glass, pressing its tentacles against it.
As if it wanted to touch her.
"Hello…" Robin murmured, smiling despite her confusion.
Then she noticed it.
A letter. Attached to the aquarium glass.
She took it and read.
Robin,
This is your first SCP to personally supervise.Name: SCP-2790Class: SafeDesignation: Best Friend ForeverAbility: Pure affection. Requires regular human contact.
History: Captured today by Luffy during a fishing game. Nearly cooked. I had to knock out the captain with a seastone baton to save it.
Task: Take care of it. Talk to it. Give it affection. It needs it to survive.Food: Small fish, shrimp. Feed twice a day.
Note: Do NOT let it out of your room. Luffy will try to eat it.
— The Director
Robin blinked.
Then she opened the file attached to the letter.
SCP-2790 FILE
She read carefully.
The full history. The abilities. The needs. And… the tragedy that had unfolded on deck.
When she finished, she was shocked.
Anomalies… can also be non-lethal things…
With human needs to live properly…
She had always thought SCPs were monsters. Dangers. Things to fear.
But this one…
She looked at SCP-2790, staring at her hopefully.
"You want affection, don't you?"
The squid seemed to nod.
Robin smiled."Alright. Come here."
She gently opened the aquarium and dipped her hand into the water.
SCP-2790 immediately wrapped itself around her arm. Not threatening. Just… affectionate.
Like a cat rubbing against its owner.
"You're adorable," Robin murmured, stroking it.
The squid closed its eyes, almost purring.
The Evening
Robin spent the rest of the evening talking to SCP-2790.
She told it about her past. Ohara. The Buster Call. Her life on the run.
The squid listened attentively, eyes fixed on her.
Sometimes she gently patted its head. It responded by snuggling against her hand.
"You know," she said softly, "I've never had a pet."
The squid looked at her.
"I've always been alone. On the run. Hiding. Never staying long enough to form bonds."
She smiled sadly."But now… maybe I can try."
SCP-2790 swam joyfully in circles inside the aquarium.
Robin laughed softly."You're happy, aren't you?"
Human contact, she thought. That's all it needs.
Just like me.
She sat in front of the aquarium for hours. Talking. Laughing. Enjoying the silent but comforting company of the little squid.
For the first time in a very, very long time…
Nico Robin didn't feel alone.
[POV: MARC]
Back on Deck
I returned to the deck of the Going Merry.
And I saw…
Luffy.
Awake. But lying on his back.
With the seastone baton placed on his chest.
Unable to move.
"GUYS… PLEASE… HELP ME…" he groaned.
"No," Zoro replied while drinking sake."You deserved it."
"BUT I'M HUNGRY!"
"Too bad."
"SANJI! FEED ME!"
"No," the cook replied coldly."You tried to cook a cute SCP. Deal with it."
"MARC! REMOVE THIS THING!"
I slowly approached and looked down at him.
"No."
"WHY?!"
"Because you need to learn."
I seriously thought Luffy would end up in containment one day.
Probably after trying to eat a Keter SCP.
Or triggering a massive containment breach.
That kid is a walking disaster.
Luffy seemed to sense something. Like his sixth sense was warning him.
He trembled slightly.
"Marc… I… I'm sorry I tried to eat the octopus…"
I raised an eyebrow."It's a squid."
"Octopus, squid, same thing!"
"No. Not at all."
"HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW?!"
I sighed."Talking to Luffy is pointless…"
I finally removed the seastone baton.
Luffy immediately jumped to his feet."FINALLY! SANJI! FOOD!"
"Figure it out yourself," Sanji replied, lighting a cigarette.
I sat against the mast, watching the sunset.
SCP-2790 was safe with Robin.
The crew was intact (even if Luffy had learned a lesson… temporarily).
And we were heading toward Jaya.
A few more days, I thought. Then we'll meet Blackbeard. Then Skypiea.
More anomalies awaited me up there.
I smiled to myself.
The hunt continued.
