Chapter 22: Madam Yafel
Harry stared at the woman with a mixture of disbelief and shock.
If it wasn't for the white chains connected to her body, he would have believed this was an impostor.
After all, she looked almost exactly the same as she did the last time he saw her.
Her long black hair and alluring amber eyes… as well as the pretty face that had enthralled him when they first met.
"Morgan…" Harry muttered.
Her reaction to hearing that name was immediate. "What did you call me?" She walked toward him.
She was holding a wand in her right hand, and by her expression and posture, Harry could tell that she was not playing around.
If he was not careful with his next words, this second chance he had gotten could quickly go to waste.
"Morgan, calm your emotions. I know I look very different now, but it is I, Merlin. You once knew me as Myrddin Wyllt," Harry hurried to say.
He hoped that he would be able to prove his identity with words.
The temperature dropped all of a sudden, and Harry understood that he had made a mistake somehow.
"What did you say…?" Her voice sounded cold. Her previous anger had been replaced by something more primal and dangerous.
However, he knew it was too late to back down now.
"I am Merlin, from Camelot. The last time I saw you was wh—"
"How dare you…?" Morgan's amber eyes had now turned golden and were brimming with energy. "How dare you come here and utter that name before me?!"
Her wand was soon replaced by a staff. Merlin recognised it immediately. It was the cursed staff she had used to wield in the past, Sceptrum Noctis (Sceptre of the Night).
This meant that she was serious about killing him now.
'Could she still hold such a grudge after all this time?' He had been thinking about how she could react after seeing him, and this was probably the worst-case scenario.
"Won't you at least listen to me?! I can expla—" Before Harry could finish the sentence, a black ball of fire was already on its way.
"Ventus!" Harry shouted, creating a powerful blast of wind beneath his feet to propel himself into the air, avoiding the ball of fire in the process.
He grimaced upon seeing the effects that Morgan's spell was having on the street.
The stone from the floor and walls melted into a puddle, and he could no longer see a single remnant of the three men he had just killed.
'This is really bad… can I even survive against her?' Morgan was the most powerful witch he had ever met, and he had even trained her for several years.
Right now, he was in the body of a child and didn't even have a proper magical staff to amplify his spells. The one in his hand was nothing more than a wooden stick he had created on a whim.
Harry conjured another gust of wind to propel himself to the other side of the narrow street.
Morgan followed him with her eyes and raised her staff again while muttering something he couldn't quite hear.
It must have been some type of wind spell, because the next thing he knew, a small tornado formed beneath him.
If he were to fall into that thing, his young body was going to get torn to pieces.
He propelled himself away from the deadly phenomenon to gain some more time, but remaining airborne would not keep him safe forever.
It was then that his eyes were drawn to the long white chain that was still connected to Morgan, as it had been since the day he sealed her. This gave him an idea.
'Right! I can use the seal to my advantage.' After all, he was the one who had created it.
He managed to grab onto a nearby window with one hand while aiming the other at Morgan herself.
The tornado was mere inches away from his feet. Just a bit longer, and he would be swallowed by it.
His mouth moved extremely quickly, forming the chant and constructing the spell. Constructing a new spell without the aid of any of his magical tools, and in such a short amount of time, was tremendously tricky, to say the least.
A normal sorcerer would have needed weeks or even months to pull off such a feat.
However… this was the Legendary Merlin.
"निग्रहः (Restrain)." He clenched his right fist, and at the same time, the chains wrapped around Morgan.
"What the—?!" The witch tried to fight back against the bounds, but these white chains were something she had been unable to break after fifteen hundred years of attempts, so she had little chance of removing them from herself now.
Morgan lost control over her magic, and the tornado she had conjured disappeared immediately.
Harry could now safely land on the ground. He glared at the woman with fury in his eyes.
"Morgan…" His right hand reached for some of the loose chain on the floor and picked it up.
His hand grasped the white chain with force, and it reacted by choking Morgan even more.
The witch clenched her teeth but did not scream, even though her bones were being cracked.
"Y-you…" She glanced at Harry with shock and confusion. "How… how can you control these chains of mine?"
"You foolish woman! Why shouldn't I be able to control them? I am the one who created them in the first place!" He shouted at her. "I know we didn't part on good terms, but to try to kill me without giving me the chance to explain myself—"
"W-wait! You… you really are Merlin?" Morgan looked genuinely surprised.
Harry tried to see if this was another trick of hers, but he found no deceit.
"Who did you think I was?"
"I… urgg… I thought you were one of my brother's men. They have been looking for me for over a thousand years. I thought they were using your name to get close to me."
"Your brother?" Harry sounded shocked. How could he not? "King Arthur is still alive?!
"
Morgan frowned. "That is a very long story… and I think you broke three or four of my ribs. Do you mind letting me go first?"
