Chapter 09: Sealed
After having the most relaxing day of his life, as far as he could remember, Harry went to sleep in his new soft bed.
He just covered himself with the sheets, closed his eyes, and a moment later, he was back in the world of his dreams.
Merlin remained in the middle of his battle against Morgan Le Fay.
Those two could be considered the most proficient magical casters from this era.
Soldiers, knights, and even the enemy barbarians would quickly move out of the way when they saw Merlin and Morgan entangled in an exchange of deadly spells.
Flames, pieces of ice, and bits of stone were flying everywhere as they clashed.
"Why are you being so stubborn about this?" Merlin shouted. "Just give up already. You cannot defeat me like this." He deflected a barrage of ice spikes with his staff.
"What is it that you're not telling me?"
"Stubborn? Ha!" Morgan laughed maniacally. "You are the stubborn idiot here." She tapped her black staff on the ground and chanted again.
"Roots of the old oak, close tightly, put the fiend to rest in the earth!"
Wooden roots emerged from the ground and tried to restrain Merlin's movements.
"You dare…" Merlin felt more furious than ever. This was the last spell he had taught her, and now she had the gall to employ it against him.
Magical forces formed around his hand and traveled towards his foci. "Enough!"
With absolute fury, Merlin channeled his power to wash away Morgan's magic.
The roots that came out of the ground were pushed away.
"Ahh!" Morgan herself was also affected by Merlin's outburst and was sent tumbling to the ground until her back hit a large boulder nearby.
"Urgh!" She grunted in pain but tried her best to recover her bearings.
This last push had left her separated from the rest of her army, so Merlin took the chance to move on the offensive.
As he approached Morgan, his lips were already moving, and his magic was forming his next spell.
This was something he had specifically prepared for her, just in case he needed it.
Once he was closer, Morgan glared at him with an angry expression. "What's wrong, Merlin? If you are going to kill me, then do it already."
He stopped for a moment. "This is your last chance, Morgan… surrender immediately!" He did not want to use this.
"Surrender, to whom? You, or… that half-brother of mine?" Her eyes narrowed. "I will do neither… I will never stop until I get revenge."
Merlin raised an eyebrow. This was the first time he had heard about her wanting revenge.
There were still many questions he wanted to ask her, but then he saw her reaching for something inside her robes and made the decision to act finally.
Merlin had finished the chant, so the moment he tapped his staff on the ground and spoke the final words of his spell, this one became active. "मुद्राङ्कनम्! (Seal)"
Morgan was shocked to hear him speaking in that ancient tongue, as this was not something that Merlin would ever use. But even more, it was because she knew where he had gotten that particular spell.
"You! You read that book?! How could you?!"
A magical circle appeared beneath their feet, and a moment later, they both disappeared from the battlefield.
Morgan fell face-first against the stone ground due to the sudden change of scenery.
She tried reaching for her staff, only to find out it was no longer there.
"It's over, Morgan… you have already lost this battle," Merlin said. There was a clear hint of sadness in his voice.
She turned to him, looking furious. "What have you done? Where are we?" She looked around and saw only broken stone ruins as far as the eye could see.
"We are in the remnants of Londinium," said Merlin. He tapped his staff on the ground again. "This will be your only home from now on."
Morgan saw white chains appearing out of nowhere and wrapping around her body. She panicked and tried to remove them using her hands.
"It's no use. Those chains are only symbolic. What I have done is tie your body and soul to this place. You will never be able to break those restraints, and for as long as you live… you will never be able to depart from here. These ruins left behind by the Romans will be your home," Merlin explained.
He couldn't bring himself to kill this person, so he had come up with this solution instead.
Merlin knew that Morgan was too dangerous to let her roam free, and Camelot would never be safe for as long as she was around.
So by sealing her in this desolate ancient city, she would never be able to bring harm to the innocent again.
"No! Merlin! You can't do this to me!" Morgan screamed at him.
Merlin sighed. He understood her plight. She had used some forbidden dark sorcery to make her body ageless, meaning that she was going to spend a very long time trapped in this dead land.
"You can't leave me here!" She shouted at him, pulling on her chains while trying to reach him.
Right now, she wanted nothing more than to rip him to pieces.
Merlin did not want to remain here any longer. Seeing her like this brought him tremendous pain.
He hoped that this imprisonment would allow her to rid herself of all the darkness plaguing her heart.
"I heard that nomad tribes would often pass by these ruins, so you won't be completely alone either," Merlin commented as he moved away. The Romans may have abandoned the city, but it wasn't completely desolated either.
There were many worse places to seal a person for all eternity, but he had purposely chosen this one for her.
"Merlin!" Morgan Le Fay glared at him.
"I promise to come visit you often, but now I must return. Camelot may still have need of my assistance," he said as he raised his staff into the air, focusing his magic to bring himself back to Camelot.
Something changed in Morgan's expression. "Merlin… wait!"
Merlin noticed this sudden change in her and became curious, but he still activated his magic.
'I'll ask her about it the next time I see her,' he promised himself.
